Van Bronckhorst told Liverpool move would end career
The 50-year-old is rumoured to be a candidate for Arne Slot's backroom team at the Premier League champions, following John Heitinga's departure to Ajax.
Van Bronckhorst, who has been working in the media since leaving Besiktas last November, would join fellow Dutchman Slot at Liverpool.
However, former Dutch footballer Hans Kraay Jr believes this move would signal the end of van Bronckhorst's career as a manager.
In his column for Voetbal International, Mr Kraay wrote: "At Feyenoord, apart from his first period, when he needed Dick Advocaat to keep himself in the saddle, he revealed that he quite enjoyed being a head coach.

"In any case, if you are at a club that often wins, it is a much more enjoyable job than being a coach at RKC or Almere.
"But in Feyenoord's championship year, with all the stress that comes with being a coach, he was quite relaxed, open and jovial towards us.
"The championship helped a lot, of course.
"After that, van Bronckhorst spread his wings and left for Rangers.
"After a good start, it became quite stressful there.
"I think this assistantship to Arne Slot means the end of his career as head coach, and also of the life in which you spend 168 hours a week on football."

Rangers boss Russell Martin labelled ‘cocky' by Southampton owner – but explains why he was UNLUCKY to be sacked by him
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RUSSELL MARTIN will begin work with his new Rangers squad next week. But Southampton's owner reckons the Gers boss is unlucky not to still be in his previous post - despite being the man who sacked him. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 3 Russell Martin has taken over at Rangers Credit: PA 3 Southampton owner Dragan Solak has been discussing Russell Martin Credit: Richard Pelham / The Sun 3 Martin was dismissed by Southampton last December Credit: Getty Martin, 39, was appointed Rangers head coach on a three-year contract a couple of weeks ago. A former Light Blues defender, he'll get down to work with his players when they return for pre-season training at the beginning of next week. Martin will have just a month to get the squad ready for action with the Gers' first competitive fixture of the new campaign just weeks away. The Light Blues will take on Greek giants Panathinaikos in a crucial Champions League qualifier, with the first leg at Ibrox on July 22 or 23. Martin's appointment at Rangers saw him return to football after a six-month asbence. Formerly manager of MK Dons and Swansea, he was most recently in charge of Southampton. Appointed by the Saints in the summer of 2023, Martin led the club to an immediate return to the Premier League after winning the Championship play-offs. Things didn't go so well in the top division, however, with Martin dismissed as boss after a run of just one league win from 16 matches. His sacking came in December last year, just five months after he'd signed a new long-term contract. Southampton are owned by Serbian businessman Dragan Solak, and he's been speaking about Martin's time in charge at the club. Russell Martin says he can win trophies NOW as he's unveiled as new Rangers manager Despite being the man who ultimately fired Martin, Solak reckons the new Gers boss was in fact UNLUCKY to lose his job. That's because he pins a lot of the blame on Southampton's woes last season on VAR and insists that Martin WOULD have seen out the season as Saints manager had they not been cost so many points. Since becoming a manager, Martin's teams have been known for having a strong identity and style of play. And Solak admits that the new Rangers gaffer was perhaps a 'bit cocky' with his approach to taking on the Premier League. Expressing his regret at sporting director Jason Wilcox's exit, Solak told the Daily Echo: "Unfortunately, we didn't replace Jason. Him leaving was a huge blow, he was the guy who started building this environment. "Then the bloody Man U came in and stole him from us, and we didn't replace him quickly enough. That was a big mistake, and I take my part in it. "We went into the Premier League a bit unprepared. We had a very smart manager, Russell Martin, and I still believe he will have a great career. "But maybe he was a little bit cocky and he came in with his vision, and he wanted to sell it to the Premier League, and that was a risky approach. "We lost some games to stupid mistakes, and then if I could speak in Serbian about the VAR last season, that would be some speech. "In Serbian, we have very colourful language, and we go very deep when we explain things, so I'll stick to English. We were super unlucky on VAR. "That, in my opinion, cost us about eight points that we actually deserved, and then instead of being comfortable, you start feeling the pressure. "You start to innovate and try things that sometimes can work, but in our case, it didn't. When we started changing, it actually went for worse." In a separate interview with the BBC, Solak expanded on his VAR frustrations. And he insisted that had VAR not cost - in his opinion - Southampton so many points early in the season, then Martin would DEFINITELY remained in charge. Solak added: "I really believe he (Martin) was absolutely, fundamentally behind his idea of football and that is not easy in an environment like the Premier League that is so competitive. "But to give him credit we were quite unlucky, I don't even know how to characterise some of the VAR decisions that we had - but in my opinion VAR took eight points off Russell's team. "If he had those eight points more in December I think he would probably manage the team through the whole season. "I'm not saying we would stay in the league but we would have (had) a much more competitive run and Russell would definitely still be leading the team." 'I'm very close with Mo Salah - this is how close he came to leaving Liverpool'
Kostas Tsimikas has shed new light on how close Mo Salah was to leaving Liverpool this summer before signing a new contract and calls on Egypt star to finally get a Ballon d'Or Kostas Tsimikas has claimed Mohamed Salah was up to 90 per cent sure that he would leave Liverpool last season - before deciding to sign a new two-year deal after Arne Slot's side won the Premier League. And the Greek full back, in a lengthy profile interview with an Athens outlet, has claimed the Reds' star man decided to remain at Anfield because of his team-mates and fans. Tsimikas, describing himself as being very close to Salah, has also opened up on how the star man is an inspiration to his team-mates - while calling on him to be named this year's Ballon d'Or. 'When he said he felt he was more outside than inside the team, it was true, the chances of him staying were 10-20 per cent, it wasn't more,' Tsimikas told Sport 24. 'If they didn't give him what he wanted, Mo wouldn't sit back, he would leave, but he wanted to stay, because he loves the team, he loves the people. 'He likes it here very much, his family has been here for so many years, it's a difficult step to leave. READ MORE: 'With the season he had, it was only a matter of time before they gave him what he wanted and he stayed. It was just a matter of time, he wouldn't go anywhere else. He signed for another two years, he's the flag of the team, he'll become an even bigger legend.' Salah had 47 goal involvements in Liverpool's Premier League title winning campaign - although they bowed out to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. And Tsimikas added: 'Mo should win the Ballon d'Or this year, he's been treated unfairly in previous years. I think it's the strength of Real Madrid or Barcelona, but also the Egyptian passport, since he can't do much with his country's national team. This year, he deserves it more than anyone.' Tsimikas, 29, also opened up on how Salah drives standards in the changing room, with his insatiable work ethic setting an example for others to follow. 'It's an example for me to see him at 32 working so much, so hard, after what he has achieved both with the team and in individual awards. "And he is both very focused and smiling at the same time, a great mix. He's always smiling, but even when he's sad, he doesn't show it to anyone, not even me. "He is there for everyone, open to everyone, to guide anyone who wants his help." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Thomas Partey 'set to leave' Arsenal as contract talks reach stalemate
Thomas Partey has been strongly linked with an exit from Arsenal after approaching the end of his contract with no agreement in place - and a report has claimed he is set to leave after talks broke down Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to leave the club on a free transfer after talks over a new contract came to a "complete standstill", according to reports. Partey has been at the Emirates for the last five seasons after joining from Atletico Madrid for around £45million and he has gone on to make 167 appearances. He was a key player in Arsenal's failed bid to win the Premier League title and Champions League last season after making 31 starts in the league, but now the Ghana international looks to be on his way out. As reported by ESPN, Arsenal's negotiations with Partey have broken down and he is now expected to leave when his deal expires on June 30. Barcelona have been linked for a swoop for Partey, while Turkish sides could also be interested in snapping him up for free, the report adds. It comes at a time when Arsenal are expected to sign Martin Zubimendi imminently, though Arteta has insisted he still wants to have Partey in the squad and the news will come as a disappointment to the Spaniard. When Arteta was asked if he felt the midfielder deserved a new deal last season, he said: "Yes. I think consistency-wise it's been his best season. The way he's played, performed, his availability, has been exceptional and he's a really important player for us." Partey has also spoken out about his future this month as he stated his family would influence any decision on his future - but said he would leave it to Arsenal and his agent. "I think the first thing is where are you happy and where do you feel at home," he said. "At the end of the day you've been in football, you've been in different teams. "Then it's about what is your next objective what do you want to achieve next. You still have to look at all this and at the end of the day we all have a family that needs money, this is our mind. "We are not getting younger. There are a lot of things where you have to look now with a family, where you want them to be happy. When you are young you just play anywhere. "I'm an Arsenal fan, I can't decide anything and just have to leave it to my agent and the club. Me, I just want to enjoy football."
