NHL Insider Predicts Sidney Crosby Trade After 2026 Olympics
NHL Insider Predicts Sidney Crosby Trade After 2026 Olympics originally appeared on Athlon Sports. NHL insider Nick Kypreos believes Sidney Crosby's time with the Pittsburgh Penguins may come to an end next season. Advertisement The Penguins, who have missed the postseason for three consecutive seasons, should be headed toward a rebuild. That doesn't seem to be the front office's mindset as the franchise has made clear that Pittsburgh won't entertain trades for Sidney Crosby or any of their other core veterans, trying instead to contend while they remain active. Appearing on Sportsnet 590 The Fan with fellow analysts Justin Bourne and Sam MacKee on Thursday, Kypreos suggested the Penguins could trade their 37-year-old longtime captain after the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Kypreos went as far as predicting Crosby's landing spot. Advertisement 'Wait till they get Sid Crosby after the Olympics,' Kypreos said, referring to the Montreal Canadiens. "I'm liking the odds a little better than I did maybe a few weeks ago." Kypreos pointed to the Penguins' declining trajectory — three consecutive regular seasons in which their point total has decreased — and aging core, including Evgeni Malkin turning 39 at the end of July and entering what may be his final season. '(Crosby) is too good right now to just be a babysitter for the next three years,' Kypreos said. 'This guy can play peak (hockey)." "It will be such a disservice to the history of our game if we watch him stay in Pittsburgh the next three or four years.' Advertisement Team Canada and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sydney Crosby before the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game against the United States on Feb. 20, Townson-Imagn Images Kypreos, however, didn't provide direct evidence of any trade talks between the Penguins and any franchise, let alone the Canadiens, but made cryptic comments about Pittsburgh's internal situation. 'I don't know what's going on in Pitt, but something's going on in Pitt," Kypreos said. "Things are going on, things are going on …' In case an agreement for a trade is reached with one of the other 31 NHL franchises, it's fair to assume the Penguins would demand multiple assets in return for Crosby, most likely at least one first-round pick and other future picks and young players. Flames GM Addresses Growing Speculation About Rasmus Andersson
Flames GM Addresses Growing Speculation About Rasmus Andersson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Speculation around Rasmus Andersson's future with the Calgary Flames has become one of the most tangled stories of the offseason as the defenseman enters his final season under contract. Advertisement Multiple insiders have reported conflicting details regarding Andresson's impending exit from the Flames, but general manager Craig Conroy has remained firm in saying that the defenseman is happy in Calgary. "Right now, he's totally fine with playing for the Calgary Flames. That was the last conversation. And he's always said that he's a Calgary Flame," Conroy said. "When he comes back in September, he'll say the same thing to you guys, 'I love it here, l'm a Calgary Flame.'" "It's all the speculation. And hey, everybody has a job, everybody has to do it, but until something is done, nothing is done. You have seen guys that maybe you think weren't going to re-sign with their team, and they did re-sign with their team. It happens." Advertisement TSN's Darren Dreger reported on Thursday that the Flames received a significant offer from the Los Angeles Kings that 'would blow your socks off.' Despite the offer, Andersson allegedly declined to waive his no-trade protection. In a previous report, Dreger had linked Ottawa, Columbus, Vegas, and Dallas to ongoing interest in the 27-year-old. He labeled the situation as a "spicy" one. Meanwhile, insider Frank Seravalli reported that Dallas, Vegas, and Los Angeles could pursue Andersson if they manage to move salary. He also called Andersson 'the best trade chip available right now, or before the trade deadline.' Calgary Flames' Rasmus Andersson (4) celebrates a goal with teammate Nazem Kadri (91).Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images TSN's Chris Johnston offered a separate scenario involving a potential swap between Calgary and Buffalo, where the Flames would acquire Bowen Byram if they submit an offer sheet for the blueliner. Advertisement As of now, no deal has materialized, and Andersson remains under contract for next season, the last of his six-year, $27.3 million deal with Calgary. He played 81 regular-season games last year, scoring 31 points, including 11 goals.
