Later, he circulated the video in the local media... After a thorough investigation and inquiry, we have concluded that the entire video is baseless and fabricated... Further investigation is still going on," Dhania said.BJP leader Amit Malviya also criticised Banerjee's remarks, accusing her of spreading misinformation. Sharing the Delhi Police's version, Malviya wrote, "The enquiry reveals that the alleged incident of abduction, extortion, and police misconduct, as claimed in the social media post, is fabricated and baseless. Delhi Police bust counterfeit auto spare parts racket, arrest 11 and recover fake products worth Rs 50 lakh
The Delhi Police said Tuesday they have busted a racket selling counterfeit automobile spare parts operating out of the Capital's Karol Bagh, and arrested 11 people in connection with the crime. Acting on credible tip-offs, the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch conducted coordinated raids on four separate premises on July 26, leading to the arrest of 11 people and the recovery of fake automobile components worth approximately Rs 50 lakh. The teams raided four locations in Nai Walan and Pusa Lane, where key suspects were apprehended along with substantial quantities of duplicate brake shoes, spark plugs, engine oils, packaging supplies, and other counterfeit parts resembling products of reputed international automobile brands, said the police. Among those arrested was Dheeraj Singh, 38, who the police identified as the alleged kingpin of the operation. A commerce graduate with prior experience in the auto industry, Singh allegedly managed the logistics and supply network. The police said his associate Amit Singh, 34, handled accounting and supply chain management, and Dipankar Nagpal, 42, supplied counterfeit branding materials. Other members of the group played roles in storage, packaging, distribution, and fake invoicing. According to the police, several members had past involvements in forgery or intellectual property rights (IPR) violations, and their detailed interrogation allegedly revealed a well-organised system aimed at deceiving both consumers and enforcement authorities. The police recovered over one lakh counterfeit parts, around 200 bottles of fake engine oil, and machines used to print labels and packaging. They also seized Rs 19 lakh in cash, forged packaging materials, holograms, stickers, and machinery used in manufacturing the counterfeit items. 'These persons procured low-quality, counterfeit auto parts from local and regional manufacturers at a fraction of the cost of genuine parts. These parts were functionally similar but lacked the durability and safety standards of genuine products. Using forged labels, holograms, logos, and packaging materials, the group rebranded the fake products to resemble those of reputed automobile companies,' said Aditya Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch). 'The packaging was often nearly identical to the original, making it difficult for the average buyer or mechanic to spot the difference. Printing machines, branding stamps, and packing materials were seized during the raid. The counterfeit products were sold to local auto part dealers, wholesalers, and repair shops in and around Delhi at slightly discounted prices, maximising profit margins,' added Gautam. The Delhi Police said some parts were falsely marketed as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) surplus or 'export rejects' to mislead buyers. Most of the transactions were done in cash, and fake invoices were generated to avoid detection. In some cases, the group also used online marketplaces and classified ads to reach a broader customer base, falsely advertising the parts as original, said the police. A case has been registered invoking relevant sections of the Copyright Act.

BJD MPs protest in Parliament over rising crimes in Odisha
New Delhi: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs staged a protest at the Gandhi statue in Parliament on Tuesday, decrying the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in BJP-ruled Odisha, particularly the surge in crimes against women and children. Carrying placards that read 'Mahilaon ki cheekh aur sarkar ki khamoshi' (the cries of women and the silence of the government) and 'Odisha BJP ka shaasan, apradhiyo ki shaan' (BJP's rule in Odisha, a pride for criminals), the members demanded immediate central intervention and a judicial inquiry into the recent 'horrific' incidents. Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra said, 'Women and children in Odisha today are completely unprotected. The law and order situation is collapsing.' Citing the incident involving a student of FM College in Balasore, who died after self-immolating when her pleas for justice went unheard, Patra said, 'She approached everyone, including the chief minister, but got no justice.' He accused the BJP-led Odisha government of being a 'complete failure' and calling its stance on the issues 'convenient and full of double standards.' Patra said the BJD demands a judicial inquiry into both incidents and 'strict action against the miscreants.' BJD MP Muzibulla Khan had similar concerns. He said the BJP raised the slogan of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' to come to power, but it is 'failing to protect our daughters'. Subhasish Khuntia, another BJD MP, said crimes against women and students are continuing 'unabated' under the 'double engine government' in Odisha. 'There is no safety for women under the BJP rule,' he said.

OPS urges Centre to release education funds for Tamil Nadu
Expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) on Tuesday condemned the BJP-led Union government for withholding funds amounting to ₹2,151 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan from Tamil Nadu over the state government's refusal to accept the three-language formula mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. OPS is presently a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under whose banner he ran as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and ultimately lost (File photo) 'Not releasing funds citing this reason is an act that affects the education of innocent, poor and needy students and teachers. This is strongly condemned,' OPS said in his statement. 'This action of the central government is against the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the principle of federalism…The Central Government's approach has created a pathetic situation where 25% of students cannot be enrolled in private schools under the RTE…' OPS is presently a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under whose banner he ran as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and ultimately lost. He has reportedly been unhappy over a perceived lack of respect for him within the alliance. According to an expelled AIADMK leader close to OPS, who spoke on condition of anonymity, 'Some of us had advised him to remain independent and not to join the BJP long back last year.' OPS' statement on Tuesday led to speculation of him joining the actor Vijay's fledgling Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). 'That is an option but as a former chief minister, it is better for OPS to contest on his own along with whoever is willing to join hands with us,' the leader quoted above said. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) expelled OPS in 2022. Both had been sharing power to run the party up till that point. Another expelled AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) also joined the NDA last year, after the AIADMK had broken away from the BJP in 2023. However, the party rejoined the NDA this April. EPS reportedly failed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to the state from July 26 to 28, even after seeking an appointment . BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said he had been unaware that OPS wanted to meet the PM.
