Tennis player killed by father at Gurgaon home: ‘Accused was taunted every time he went to buy milk at his village'
The incident took place on Thursday around 10.30 am. Radhika was cooking when her father, Deepak Yadav (54), took his pistol and allegedly shot her in the waist.
Her uncle, Kuldeep (46), who lives on the ground floor with his family, heard the shots, rushed upstairs, and found Radhika lying in a pool of blood.
As per the FIR lodged on Kuldeep's complaint, he noticed a .32 bore revolver — Deepak's licensed weapon — in the drawing room. He and his son, Piyush, then rushed Radhika to a private hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
In his statement to the police Thursday evening, he said there was no issue in the family that would lead his brother to kill his niece.
However, according to the police, Deepak allegedly could not stand Radhika's success — she was gradually climbing up the ranks internationally in the doubles category, was coaching at a private academy, and was individually teaching high-profile clients.
During questioning, police said he claimed he was taunted by locals whenever he went to buy milk at his village in Wazirabad.
Station House Officer Inspector Vinod Kumar had said on Thursday, 'He (Deepak) had been upset for a while as he was being taunted by locals over his daughter's income. He was troubled by their remarks — they would keep saying the house is running on her money, and he is too dependent on that. He had asked her (Radhika) several times earlier to stop working at the academy, but she refused. He could not take it anymore.'
A police spokesperson told The Indian Express that they have found no evidence so far to suggest a love affair or objection to her social media posts as possible motives for the crime.
The FIR has been lodged under sections of murder and offences under the Arms Act. Police recovered the murder weapon along with five empty shells and one live cartridge from the scene.
The autopsy report states that four bullets hit Radhika. The body was handed back to her family after the post-mortem.
Born on March 23, 2000, Radhika had competed in various national and international tournaments, achieving a career-best ranking of 75 in Girls Under-18, 53 in Women's Doubles, and 35 in Women's Singles as per All India Tennis Association (AITA) records.
She was active on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit, where she was ranked 113.

Chandigarh: The Counter Intelligence (CI) team of Amritsar has busted a cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of one of its operatives working under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler, said Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday. The arrested person has been identified as Bharatpreet Singh, a resident of Marhi Megha village in Tarn Taran district. Police teams have recovered five sophisticated pistols, two 9 MM, two .30 bore and one .32 bore, from his possession, besides impounding his motorcycle being used for transporting the consignments. Acting swiftly, police teams have intercepted suspect Bharatpreet Singh from Ibban village in Amritsar, when he was going to deliver the consignment to some party, and recovered illegal weapons from his possession, he added. Further investigations are underway to uncover the network's backward and forward linkages. A case was registered on Monday under the Arms Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar. Delhi: 3 held for killing man who resisted mobile snatching
Agency: New Delhi, Jul 29 (PTI) Three men, including a hotel employee, were arrested for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man to death after he resisted their attempt to snatch his mobile phone near Badarpur Bus Stand in southeast Delhi, an official on Tuesday said. The accused, identified as Mohsin alias Noor (20), Deepak Suryavanshi (18) and Himanshu (21), were riding on a scooter, having a defective headlight, which was key to cracking the case, she said. 'The body of the deceased, identified as Makbul Akaram, a native of Bihar's West Champaran who worked in Delhi, was found with a stab wound near Badarpur Bus Stand around 5:51 am on July 26. His mobile phone was missing, leading police to suspect robbery as the motive," said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Aishwarya Sharma. With no eyewitnesses and no identification documents, police launched a technical and field-level probe, registering a case under Section 103(1) (Murder) of the BNS. The breakthrough came after investigators scanned more than 1,000 CCTV camera feeds from Delhi and Faridabad, tracing a scooty seen circling the area before murder. Police located footage from Arpan Vihar that captured the suspects' faces, she said. The scooter, which had a defective headlight and was seen taking a convoluted route to evade detection, was key to cracking the case, police said. Police identified one of the suspects as Mohsin, an employee of a hotel in Faridabad's Basantpur. Man held for renting employer's bike to mobile phone snatchers for Rs 5,000 a night: Delhi Police
A 31-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly renting out his employer's motorcycle to his friend, who used it for snatching a mobile phone in the high-security Civil Lines area of North Delhi, the police said Monday. According to the police, Nitin Kumar, a technician working at an internet service provider's shop in Khajuri Khas of Northeast Delhi, charged Rs 5,000 per night for the bike. The police added that the alleged snatcher, Jafar, was arrested along with Kumar on July 26. A police officer said Kumar's employer, Ankit, went on the Amarnath Yatra and asked him to look after his blue TVS Apache bike and use it for work-related purposes. When Kumar met Jafar for their weekly session of drinks on July 19, his friend asked him for help. 'Jafar told Nitin that he was going through financial hardship. He said he planned to snatch a couple of mobiles with an associate but didn't have a bike for it,' a police officer said. Jafar then offered Kumar a deal — Rs. 5000 for renting out Ankit's bike for a day. Kumar agreed and gave the bike to Jafar. On July 20, Jafar and a man named Afzal snatched a mobile phone and sold the device to Aftab Mansori, who lives in Karol Bagh, the police said. The police registered a complaint at the Civil Lines Police Station, and a team analysed the CCTV footage in the area, and traced the bike through its number plate. They found the bike at Ankit's shop, who was unaware of the crime. 'The motorcycle is registered in the name of Satyaveer, who is from Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. Satyaveer had given the vehicle to his son, Ankit, who operates a WiFi business in Khajuri, Delhi. Subsequently, Ankit handed over the motorcycle to his employee Nitin for work-related use,' a police officer said. When the police questioned Kumar, Jafar's scheme unravelled. Based on Kumar's interrogation, the police raided Jafar's house in Shastri Park near Buland Masjid. Jafar, who has cases pending under the Arms Act as well as charges of snatching, was arrested. At his instance, the police also arrested Afzal.
