Kia appears to be preparing its popular Seltos SUV for an electric transformation, following in the footsteps of its sibling brand Hyundai's Creta Electric. Spy shots of the upcoming 2026 Kia Seltos suggest that the next-generation model might include a fully electric variant—one that will feature distinct design cues to set it apart from the internal combustion and hybrid versions.
Although official confirmation is pending, visual evidence suggests Kia is adopting a dual-front-fascia strategy, possibly to differentiate the EV.

Both test mules also had charging ports at the front, implicating at least one of them could be an all-battery electric vehicle (BEV). This suggests a battery electric vehicle (BEV), and is consistent with how Hyundai is handling its Creta Electric. The Creta Electric uses a separate design language from the standard version while keeping the overall shape.

While the interiors remain under wraps, it is expected that the Seltos EV may feature EV-specific cabin updates such as a steering column-mounted gear selector, new interface elements, and reworked trim pieces. The emphasis is likely to be on minimalism, modern tech, and digital enhancements. The Seltos EV could potentially take the mechanicals from the Creta Electric, meaning it could be offered with either a 42 kWh or 51.4 kWh battery pack paired to a 169 bhp front-mounted electric motor. It is expected to provide a claimed range of up to 473 km, just as the Creta Electric.
Moreover, other specifics like the 0-100 kmph time are also likely to remain same as the Hyundai counterpart at 7.9 seconds. A hybrid powertrain variant is also expected to be on offer to take direct competition with offerings from Toyota and Maruti with their SUV's variants.

Kia begins mass production of next-gen military tactical vehicle in South Korea
Kia has officially begun mass production of its upgraded military transport vehicle , the next-generation Kia Medium Tactical Vehicle ( KMTV ), marking a significant milestone in the company's decades-long involvement in military mobility. The roll-out ceremony was held Tuesday at Kia's Autoland plant in Gwangju, about 270 kilometers south of Seoul, the automaker said. The event marks the introduction of the first new KMTV model in 48 years, following the debut of the original medium tactical vehicle in 1977. Features Developed under a contract with the South Korean Army awarded in December 2019, the new KMTV comes in two variants — a 2.5-ton model with a 280-horsepower diesel engine and a 5-ton version powered by a 330-horsepower unit. Both are equipped with 8-speed automatic transmissions. Beyond raw power, the new KMTV adds modern features such as air suspension seats, front and rear cameras, around-view monitoring, and a built-in navigation system. Kia says the vehicle also boasts improved payload capacity and enhanced protection features, aiming to appeal to both domestic and international defense customers. Deliveries to the South Korean Army are scheduled to begin this month, with plans to supply the vehicle to global markets in the near future. The announcement comes on the heels of Kia's participation in the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2025 in the UAE, where it showcased its full military portfolio, including the KMTV bare chassis, the Light Tactical Vehicle (KLTV) two-seater, and the company's first passenger pickup truck, the Tasman.

Relax PLI, PM e-drive schemes, say auto cos
New Delhi: With supply chains crippled due to curbs on shipments of rare earth magnets by China, the auto industry sought relaxation from govt in meeting domestic value addition (DVA) norms towards production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and phased manufacturing programme (PMP) in PM e-drive programme. Sources said the companies, which include top manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Hero Moto and TVS also petitioned govt for approval to import complete assemblies of components from China in short-term to ensure that production schedules are not disturbed. 'DVA requirement in PLI and PMP in PM e-Drive schemes may have to be relaxed to allow for imports of completed assemblies,' the industry, which is currently not getting supplies from China and is banking on existing inventory, said in a representation to govt, sources told TOI. 'In the eventuality of the challenge not being resolved, the industry will be constrained to import complete assemblies of components from China in the short term,' the companies said.

NEW DELHI: With supply chains crippled due to the severe curbs on shipments of rare earth magnets by China, the auto industry raised an SOS and sought relaxation from the govt in meeting the all-crucial domestic value addition (DVA) norms towards the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and the phased manufacturing programme (PMP) in the PM e-Drive programme. Sources said the companies, which include top manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Hero Moto, TVS, and Tata Motors, also petitioned the govt for permission to import complete assemblies of components from China in the short term to ensure that production schedules are not disturbed. 'DVA requirement in PLI and PMP in PM e-Drive schemes may have to be relaxed to allow for imports of completed assemblies,' the industry – which is currently not getting supplies from China and is banking only on existing inventory – said in a representation to the central govt, the sources told TOI. 'In the eventuality of the challenge not being resolved, the industry will be constrained to import complete assemblies of components from China in the short term,' the companies said, adding that the measure may result in a loss of business for local manufacturers of motors, sensors, and other components who use rare earth magnets. They also said that despite the import of full assemblies, there may still be challenges in production plans. '… this will not resolve the immediate problem of disruption in manufacturing, as the new components are not designed/compatible with the requirement of the vehicles being produced in India.' The companies also said that local value add-on in the vehicles will also be impacted as companies import complete assemblies from China, leading to cost escalations. 'The imports in the auto sector will rise as complete assemblies will have much higher cost.' The industry requested the govt to take measures so that India becomes self-reliant in the production of rare earth permanent magnets by establishing a complete domestic value chain. 'Financial incentives linked to production and policy support may be extended to promising manufacturers. Encourage local mining and production of magnets for reducing dependence on China through incentives. Financial and policy support may be provided to encourage public-private partnerships in setting up rare earth processing facilities and magnet production clusters across India,' the companies said. As magnet supplies stopped following new procurement procedures mandated by China to control any diversion towards defence and weapons production, auto companies raised an alarm over the impending challenges. They said that the matter will lead to the stoppage of production of certain models in June, while heading to a complete shutdown of production by the middle of July if new supplies were not forthcoming. The industry said that the shortage will impact the planned launch of many new models, apart from disturbing the entire value chain across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles. The rare earth magnets are used for components like speedometers, electric motors, e-axles, electric water pumps, automatic transmission kits, speakers, sensors, and ignition coils in engines. Companies say a multi-layered approval process has to be followed before the magnets can be procured, and a final approval from China's Ministry of Commerce is also required.
