Netflix ‘Saare Jahan Se Accha' cast; Pratik Gandhi and Anup Soni on Deepika Padukone's 8-hour shift

In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Firstpost's Lachmi Deb Roy Netflix 'Saare Jahan Se Accha' cast¬ — Pratik Gandhi and Anup talk about the 8-hour shift. WATCH the full interview below Saare Jahan Se Accha tells the story of Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) agent Vishnu Shankar, who undertakes a perilous mission deep inside enemy territory: Pakistan. While inspired by real events, the series is a fictional drama and not a direct biopic of any specific individual or event. Set in the volatile 1970s, when a single move could tip the balance of power and trigger a global nuclear war, _Saare Jahan Se Accha_ unfolds as India's R&AW and Pakistan's ISI clash in a deadly game of strategy. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Talking about 8-hour work shift Pratik Gandhi mentioned that after sometime fatigue sets in. 'Our job is constantly demanding us to create emotions. When I am creating an emotion, my body doesn't understand that I am acting. I constantly do this for 6 to 7 hours. But after 8-hours it is extremely impossible to generate any magic. We try with all our possibilities, but it is tough. This is from the actors' point of view. With all logic, it is almost impossible to work for 12-hours. That applies for all industries.' Pratik believes that 8-hour shift can magically transform creative imagination. 'Even if we are working for 12-hours, the productive time is not more than 8 to 9-hours. Forget about actors, I am also talking on behalf of other departments especially the technicians, I totally feel for them.' Anup Soni adds to the conversation, 'Even if you give financial benefits to technicians, we need to understand that eventually it is your body. And body needs rest. Technicians are the people who are on their feet all the time. As an actor, you still get time to rest if your shot is not there. There are times when we are free for two-hours also in between. Some shots which doesn't require exhaustive performance, I generally do it when I am a little tired.' Pratik further added, 'It is not that we don't want to work for long hours. But even if I want to, it will show on my face that I am exhausted. There will be a swelling on my face or eyes. So, even if I want to, but beyond a point my body will not allow me to do that.' With budgets shrinking, says Pratik, 'I guess people are trying to achieve me in less amount of time.' WATCH the full interview below:

Sanjay Mishra: One has to accept, there is a shortage of good scripts

With a career spanning over three decades, veteran actor Sanjay Mishra choose to once again tap into his love for theatre and plays, with Ghasiram Kotwal. The actor who was recently seen in Son Of Sardaar 2 returned to theatre with the play in which he plays the role of Nana Phadnavis. "I feel honored to be back performing in front of a live audience with such a show which is considered to be a very profound play," says Sanjay, adding, "If you play cricket and you get to play in Lords ground, what can be better than that! That's how I am feeling with this role." Sanjay Mishra Ask him what made him decide about his return to plays, Sanjay says, "I am keen to play different characters. With plays, you instantly connect with the audience. The thrill and pressure to perform in front of live audience can't be described, only felt. In films, you can take multiple takes. If something goes wrong, you can redo it. But in theatre, you have to deliver it to every seat. There are lengths for it. A great performance is going on. You have to see it. A director cannot sit in a corner and edit it.' He adds, "My audience loves to see me try my hand at variety of roles. That fuels my focus to keep experimenting and playing different characters which also challenge me. I am an actor who is hungry for work. I don't like boxing myself. But one can't deny the fact, that theatres gives one more scope and area to learn and experiment. With years into my career, I didn't have anything new coming my way which I already have played, so I turned towards theatre." He mentions how he aims to focus on working on his craft so as to perform better on stage. "I am focusing on theatre for now. I want to explore other genres be it on stage or on big screen. As an actor, I am lucky that I get a chance to explore various genre, that filmmakers see that potential in me." Sanjay says, he approached the transition from Marathi to Hindi with caution, aware that much could be 'lost in translation' seeing that the play was originally written and performed in Marathi language in 1972. "One has to try and keep the authenticity intact but I try to break it a little according to my understanding. With any character that you play, which has been played before also, this is the core understanding," says the 61-year-old, adding, "With plays the reactions come instantly. Sometimes you might get a lot of abuses and sometimes people praise you with a standing ovation. It's all a part of the process. Some might like my approach towards the character while some might even criticize. I have learnt to always keep learning." Ask him what has kept him away from OTT, seeing that his last outing on digital platforms was in 2022 Bed Stories which did not manage to create much noise. He says: "My show Office Office was loved by many, even though Shukla Ji is retired, I loved being a part of it. I myself don't understand why I am not getting work on OTT. Having said that, for the past sometime, I have been focusing on films, seeing cinema 2 ghanta ki peshkash hoti hai, jo mujhe passand hai. Meri samaj ke hisab se, 'marro toh chakka (sixer) hi marro warna na marro.' Aisa koi role karne ka kya fayda hai jisko nibhane mei mazaa bhi na aae. Aur yeh bhi man na padega, ki kafi waqt se kuch interesting aaya bhi nahi hai." Sanjay concludes, his thoughts by saying, 'As an actor I can only focus my performance. If my movie does not earn money well, then what can I do? For me, I have tried my best. Also one has to agree, that these days, there's a shortage of good stories. One film works, the filmmakers focus on making sequels. Just because first one worked doesn't assure you the others will too. Some films are ever green and their sequels or remakes can't be made- like Sholay, Mughal-E-Azam. It's not something happening in Bollywood but across globe."

How Soubin Shahir became Coolie's breakout star: Stole the show from Rajinikanth, outdanced Pooja Hegde in Monica song

Rajinikanth, one of the biggest screen icons of all time, is the film's hero. Nagarjuna, one of the most popular superstars in Telugu cinema, is the villain. Lokesh Kanagaraj and Anirudh Ravinchander - both in their peak - have also contributed immensely. Yet, the breakout star of Coolie's success is an unassuming Malayali actor, who outshone, outacted, and even outdanced everyone in the film. Soubin Shahir is earning heavy praise for his performance in the film, with most calling him the film's breakout star. Soubin Shahir (R) with Rajinikanth and Shruti Haasan in Coolie. Who is Soubin Shahir? To anyone familiar with Malayalam cinema, Soubin is not a new name or face. The actor-filmmaker was somewhat of a late bloomer, beginning as an assistant director to Fazil, Siddique, Rafi-Mecartin, P. Sukumar, Santhosh Sivan, Rajeev Ravi, and Amal Neerad in the 2000s. It wasn't until he was 30 that Soubin made his full-fledged acting debut with Annayum Rasoolum. Two years later, he had his breakthrough in Malayalam cinema with Premam. His first lead role in Sudani from Nigeria, which won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor, came when he was 34. In 2017, he made his directorial debut with Parava. Before Coolie, Soubin was best known for his acclaimed performance in Manjummel Boys. Soubin earned mainstream popularity outside Kerala with his starring roles in Kumbalangi Nights and Manjummel Boys. The latter became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. His performance was regarded as one of the "100 Greatest Performances of the Decade" by Film Companion. With Manjummel Boys, he also turned producer for the first time. Coolie marked his first full-length role appearance in Tamil cinema. He had done a cameo in the 2017 film, Solo. But it was Coolie that allowed him to reach out to pan-India audiences in a big way. Soubin Shahir's role in Coolie Coolie is the story of Rajinikanth's Deva, a retired coolie who investigates his friend's death and gets embroiled in the criminal activities of a gangster named Simon (Nagarjuna). Soubin plays Dayal, a henchman of Simon and an unpredictable character whose loyalties lie only with himself. The character has become a fan favourite, with Soubin winning praise for his performance as well. On social media, he is being called the 'scene-stealer', no mean feat in a Rajinikanth film that also has Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Aamir Khan. "#SoubinShahir the Show Stealer in #Coolie," read a tweet with a collage of his scenes from the film. Another fan wrote, "Bro #SoubinShahir deserves National award in a supporting actor role for his stellar performance." Soubin Shahir's viral dance to Monica But if he wasn't content with winning acclaim for his acting, Soubin Shahir stole the show with his dance moves as well. Coolie features a dance number called Monica, which sees Pooja Hegde in a special appearance as the titular siren. The song, composed by Anirudh, features electric choreography from Sandy Master. But many noted that despite Pooja's grace and charm, Soubin was the star of the music video. One viewer shared a clip of the song and tweeted, "Pooja Hegde was highly praised for dominating every dance number even if paired with 'SUPERSTARS' until the real showman showed up. The Name is Soubin Shahir." Another tweet read, '41-year-old boy #SoubinShahir stole the whole song.' What's next for Soubin Shahir Soubin Shahir has not confirmed his next project as of yet. There have been reports that he is in talks to play the antagonist in Ajith Kumar's next. If true, that would be a level up for the talented actor, and not a moment too soon.
