Wilson's double-double, Evans' spark off the bench lead Aces past Dream 87-72
LAS VEGAS — A'ja Wilson had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Dana Evans provided a spark off the bench and the Las Vegas Aces won three straight games for the first time this season with an 87-72 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night. Evans scored the first nine points of the second quarter to give the Aces the lead for good and finished with 14 points. Jackie Young added 14 points for Las Vegas (12-11), which plays its next four on the road. NaLyssa Smith had 11 points. Allisha Gray led the Dream (13-10) with 24 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Canada added 12 points. Atlanta is without All-Star and leading scorer Rhyne Howard due to a knee injury. She missed the last two games before the All-Star break and will miss at least four more. A 3-pointer by Te-Hina Paopao had the Dream within 68-62 with 7:48 to play, but the Aces had a seven-point run to get the lead back to 13 points and Atlanta never threatened again. The Dream led 27-20 after one quarter behind Gray's 12 points and a closing 15-3 run. Atlanta was 7 of 15 overall, but 5 of 8 behind the arc and were plus-8 from the foul line. The Dream were 4 of 19 from distance over the last three quarters and shot 38.5% overall. Evans put the Aces up 29-27 with her second quarter run and had 11 in the quarter when Vegas had a 25-12 advantage to lead 45-39 at the half. The Aces got the lead to 14 in the middle of the third quarter before the Dream cut the deficit to 67-59 entering the fourth.

Ozzie Albies has had a nightmare season, right along with the rest of the Atlanta Braves. But would they actually trade him? If they do, The Athletic writes that the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants are the two best fits for him, along with the Angels. "Perhaps the season has gone south enough for Atlanta and for Albies that a player with notoriously inexpensive team control through 2027 becomes available," The Athletic writes. "Albies is in the midst of his worst big-league season by far, and since 2022, he's posted a league-average OPS while missing significant time with injuries. There's still value in the talent and the contract for an acquiring team, and Atlanta's farm system could use a kickstart." MORE: Dallas Keuchel is attempting an MLB comeback The switch-hitting second baseman is a bargain for two more seasons after this one, with $7 million team options. The Braves could make a strong case for keeping him around. If not, the Yanks and Giants could inquire. New York has already had a bit of infield controversy, and if Albies came in, Jazz Chisholm would probably have to move back to the spot he doesn't prefer, third base. The Giants haven't solved second base yet, and Albies could be the answer. Atlanta might be wise to keep him, but if the Braves truly decide it's time to cut their losses with Albies, the Yankees, Giants and many other teams should give them a call. Raleigh's 39th home run leads Mariners to snap Brewers' 11-game win streak
SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 39th home run of the season, Logan Gilbert tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings and the Seattle Mariners snapped the Milwaukee Brewers' 11-game winning streak, 1-0 on Tuesday night. Raleigh, who hadn't homered since July 11 against the Detroit Tigers, received an elevated fastball from Brewers right-hander Nick Mears (1-3) and hit it well past the right field wall. The switch-hitting catcher, who won the All-Star Home Run Derby, provided all the offense on an evening headlined by the pitchers. Gilbert (3-3) carried a perfect game bid into the fifth inning, and ended up yielding just two singles. The right-hander racked up 10 strikeouts against no walks while needing only 86 pitches to make it into the seventh inning, departing to a standing ovation. Brewers' rookie sensation Jacob Misiorowski was similarly brilliant. The righty struck out seven batters across 3 2/3 innings, yielding three hits while walking one. It wasn't until Misiorowski departed that the Mariners finally pushed a run across and set up closer Andrés Muñoz for his 22nd save of the season. Key moment Muñoz walked William Contreras and Jackson Chourio to put two runners aboard with one out in the ninth inning.
