NCERT introduces modules on Operation Sindoor for school students
The Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that killed 26 people was carried out on 'direct orders' by 'Pakistan's military and political leadership', the modules said, giving details of how the operation was planned. They also featured maps of target sites and photographs of destroyed Pakistani drones, and made references to India's air defence systems, including the S-400, which intercepted and neutralised enemy aircraft and drones.
The module titled 'Operation Sindoor — A Saga of Valour' is meant for preparatory and middle stages (Classes 3 to 8), while 'Operation Sindoor—A Mission of Honour and Bravery' is for students at the secondary stage (Classes 9 to 12).
NCERT modules are supplementary resources in English and Hindi that cover contemporary and culturally significant topics. They are separate short publications on specific topics that are not part of the textbooks but taught through projects, posters, discussions, and debates.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan with missiles and long-range weapons in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. This triggered four days of hostilities that ended after the two sides reached an understanding on ending military actions on May 10.
The module for the secondary stage said the country reacted in 'a very united way' after the terror attack in Pahalgam. 'Candlelight marches were held from across the country. Muslim communities in Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal wore black armbands and openly denounced the attack. In Kashmir, shopkeepers closed their shops in protest. Villages near the border demanded strong action and supported the Armed Forces,' it said.
It added that the local population in Kashmir 'stood up and spoke against terrorists. Their response breaks stereotypes and shows the real voice of peace-loving people.'
The modules also cite India's strong military responses — from the wars of 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999 to the 2019 Balakot strikes and Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam attack — describing the latest Operation Sindoor as a decisive move against terrorism backed by the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Pakistan's ISI.
In June, defence minister Rajnath Singh said Operation Sindoor was the natural progression of the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes in Pakistan, and it was conducted in a manner that forced Islamabad to ask for a ceasefire, articulating India's firm resolve against terror.
Both modules start with quotes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In one, he described Operation Sindoor as 'a confluence of India's policy, intent, and decisive capability.' In the module for the secondary stage, PM Modi spoke about how Indian forces attacked terror hideouts in Pakistan and their training centres with precision. 'The terrorists had never imagined that India could take such a big decision. But when the country is united, endowed with the spirit of Nation First and national interest is paramount, then strong decisions are taken and results are achieved.' Former Northern Army commander Lieutenant General DS Hooda (retd) said, 'It is good that students, from an early age, learn about what the military has done—its achievements and how it has responded to the challenges we face. This will give them better exposure to the era, a deeper understanding of what we have been doing, and how India's independent history has evolved.'

The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill and associated bills that were tabled in Parliament on Wednesday violate the principles that underlie the Constitution and the democratic polity. These bills are ill-conceived and are liable to be unfairly implemented. They seek to punish a person before the crime is proved, as they provide for the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers from office if they are arrested or detained in custody for 30 consecutive days for offences that attract a jail term of at least five years. The bills have been sent to a joint committee of parliament which is to return them before the next session so that they can be enacted at the in public office is important but it cannot be pursued by circumventing due process. The bills, if enacted, will become another weapon in the hands of the Central government to target Opposition parties and their ministers. Central investigative agencies, including the CBI and the ED, are now being used to hound politicians in the Opposition camp. At present, the law and its existing processes provide them cover but the proposed laws can remove all defences, exposing anyone to politically motivated, vindictive detention. These will be the new Article 356, without its safeguards and procedures, enabling the Central government to destabilise state governments. The bills are out of tune with the essential norms of parliamentary democracy and deal a blow to constitutional federalism. They challenge the separation of powers between the organs of state and give executive agencies unfettered power to dismiss elected government has sought to justify the bills on the ground of public interest and the need for elected representatives to be honest and above suspicion. But going by the Narendra Modi government's record, these ethical and moral arguments would be mere excuses for targeted actions against the opponents. Long-drawn legal processes and low rates of conviction may have prompted the government to explore quicker ways to get at its political opponents. The bills are not aimed at cleansing the political system but at weakening the Opposition. They are unlikely to pass the judicial muster, even if they get parliamentary approval, because they go against the basic tenet of the rule of law that no one can be held guilty till proven otherwise. The resignation of people holding office is a political matter between them, their parties, and the people. The law should have no role to play until they are proven guilty.

China And Pakistan Agree To Launch New Economic Corridor Projects
Pakistan and China pledged to expand economic cooperation and investment under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a flagship program of China's Belt and Road Initiative, officials said. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Thursday. The two sides agreed to launch new projects through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, or CPEC, a flagship program of the Belt and Road Initiative, a Pakistani government statement said. The countries did not immediately share details of the proposed projects. Called "One Belt, One Road" in Chinese, the Belt and Road Initiative has built power plants, roads, railroads and ports around the world and deepened China's relations with Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Mideast. It is a major part of Chinese President Xi Jinping's push for China to play a larger role in global affairs. Beijing has invested billions of dollars in Pakistan through CPEC, building roads, power plants and rail links to connect China's western Xinjiang region with the Arabian Sea port of Gwadar in southwest Pakistan, where some Chinese have been attacked by insurgents in recent years. The foreign ministers vowed to deepen collaboration in science, technology, industry and agriculture. Wang also urged Pakistan to ensure the safety of Chinese workers and engineers, who have come under attack by separatists in Balochistan province and elsewhere in recent years. Pakistan already has increased security for Chinese working on CPEC-related projects. China has long been one of Pakistan's key ally and financial backer, especially as Islamabad struggles with a prolonged economic crisis. The meeting came a day after Wang and Dar traveled to Kabul for a trilateral dialogue with Afghanistan's Taliban rulers on political and economic cooperation. Wang's stop in Pakistan also followed a visit to neighboring India earlier this week, where he held talks aimed at stabilizing strained relations between the two Asian giants.
