Swimming: New-look Australia focused on LA 2028 at swimming worlds - Omni sports
The Australians won seven swimming golds at the Paris Olympics but several big names have since retired or are skipping this year's world championships, which begin Sunday.
That has opened the door for 10 debutants and Pallister, who made her Olympic bow in Paris, urged them to make the most of the experience.
"I think it's important for those on the team this year to really soak in the moment and do their best," said the 23-year-old.
"I don't really think it's about the medal table, I think in three years' time is the bigger picture."
Australia's most successful Olympian, Emma McKeon, has hung up her goggles as have other stalwarts including Mitch Larkin, Brianna Throssell and Jenna Strauch.
Four-time Olympic gold medallist Ariarne Titmus -- who lost her 400m freestyle world record to Canadian Summer McIntosh last month -- is on an extended break.
Eleven of Australia's squad in Singapore are aged 20 or under.
Veteran Cameron McEvoy, who is appearing at his seventh world championship, said the Australians were a team in transition.
"Things come and go, things change, you have to build up from time to time, you can't be constantly at the top and only at the top," said the 31-year-old, the 50m freestyle Olympic champion.
"We have the most rookies on our team that I've seen across my whole time, which is exciting too."
At just 16, Sienna Toohey came from nowhere to qualify for the 50m and 100m breaststroke.
Australia also have high hopes for fellow newcomers Hannah Fredericks (200m backstroke) and Ben Goedemans (800m freestyle), while Ella Ramsay, 21, will contest four events.
"A lot of them are very young, they've got a lot of years ahead of them," said McEvoy.
"Starting that three years out from the Olympics instead of, say, 2027, one year out, goes a long way too."

David Popovici called it "even better than the Olympics" after the Paris 2024 champion claimed a thrilling gold in the 200m freestyle at the swimming world championships on Tuesday. The popular 20-year-old Romanian timed it perfectly to reel in US rival Luke Hobson in the closing stages and take the title in 1min 43.53sec. Hobson was forced to settle for silver (1:43.84) with Japan's 18-year-old Tatsuya Murasa taking bronze (1:44.54). "Even better than the Olympics to be honest," said Popovici, who reclaimed his world crown from 2022. "You know why?" he added. "I trained a lot for the Olympics but this year has been more relaxed and easygoing." He added: "I am very proud of myself." The final in Singapore was billed as a duel between Popovici -- the Olympic champion -- and Paris bronze medallist Hobson. And so it turned out, with Popovici putting on the afterburners in the dying stages of the race. Britain's Matthew Richards, who took silver in the French capital a year ago, was a surprise casualty in the semi-finals. South Korea's Hwang Sun-woo, who went to the first turn in front, finished just outside the medals in fourth. The 200m freestyle was the first of five finals on the third day of competition in Singapore. Swimming: Ageless Ledecky wins 1,500m freestyle for 22nd World Gold - Omni sports
Katie Ledecky cruised to a dominant 1,500m freestyle gold in Singapore on Tuesday to claim the 22nd world title of her storied career. The American great touched the wall in 15min 26.44sec, ahead of Simona Quadarella of Italy in 15:31.79 and Australia's Lani Pallister in 15:41.18. The masterful win moved all-time great Ledecky four short of Michael Phelps's career tally of 26 world gold medals. It also gave her the sixth world 1,500m freestyle title of her career and she paraded around the arena afterwards with the American flag. "I love this race. This race was the race that I broke my first world record in in 2013," said Ledecky, 28, who has won nine Olympic golds. "Lots of great races and memories over the years at worlds. I'm happy I could do it in Singapore." Ledecky was the red-hot favourite going into the race, having qualified for the final over 10 seconds faster than nearest challenger Pallister. She also went into the race owning the top 24 1,500m freestyle times ever, and set the second-fastest time in history in April behind her own record. Ledecky and Pallister broke clear of the rest of the field early on, with the Australian determined to keep close to the American. Both were on world record pace at the 500m mark before Ledecky began to leave Pallister behind. Ledecky was in a class of her own from there on, with the world record still within sight. That prospect drained away in the closing stages but by that time the gold was in the bag. "Lani took it out there. I knew she would be out fast and I just wanted to get out fast, but comfortable enough that I could go from there," said Ledecky. "I'm happy with the time and happy with the swim." The victory gave Ledecky her first gold medal of the championships, after picking up a bronze behind Summer McIntosh in the 400m freestyle on Sunday's opening night. Ledecky is set to go head-to-head with Canadian phenomenon McIntosh again in Singapore in the 800m freestyle. Ledecky's win came against the backdrop of a gastroenteritis outbreak in the American team, which managing director Greg Meehan said had affected the "overwhelming majority" of the squad. Marseille loans Canada midfielder Kone to Serie A club Sassuolo - World
Marseille midfielder Ismael Kone has been loaned to Serie A side Sassuolo, with an option to buy. After joining Marseille from Watford last year, the Canada international struggled to settle and played just nine games for the nine-time French champions before being loaned to Rennes for the second half of last season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. L'Equipe reported that the loan will earn Marseille 2.5 million euros ($2.9 million), regardless of Sassuolo's results this season. The newspaper said Marseille could receive an additional 10 million euros if the purchase option, which will become mandatory if Sassuolo remains in Serie A, is activated. Sassuolo said the the option to buy will become mandatory 'under certain conditions.'
