BBC to stop showing 'high risk' performances at Glastonbury
Afterwards, this saw a lot of criticism aimed at the group, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer calling it "appalling hate speech". The BBC were criticised for broadcasting the gig live on BBC iPlayer and has since apologised. BBC: BBC prioritised Bob Vylan's set being on iPlayer or Sounds, but a live feed did remain until 8pm whilst the team worked on tech solution. "We are taking actions to ensure proper accountability for those found to be responsible for those failings in the live broadcast." — Scott Bryan (@scottygb) July 3, 2025 In a statement, the broadcaster said that "clear that errors were made both in the lead-up to and during Bob Vylan's appearance." The BBC explained the duo were deemed "high risk" following an assessment process applied to all acts appearing at Glastonbury, Sky News reports. However, they were deemed suitable for live streaming with "appropriate mitigations". They continued: "Prior to Glastonbury, a decision was taken that compliance risks could be mitigated in real time on the live stream - through the use of language or content warnings - without the need for a delay. This was clearly not the case." The corporation added that it would make "immediate changes to livestreaming music events", including no longer broadcasting performances deemed high risk live. The BBC has said that it regrets not pulling the live stream of punk-rap duo Bob Vylan's Glastonbury performance and said the group's comments were 'antisemitic' and 'utterly unacceptable'. — Channel 4 News (@Channel4News) June 30, 2025 In a statement, BBC director general Tim Davie also said he "deeply regrets that such offensive and deplorable behaviour appeared on the BBC". He continued: "We are unequivocal that there can be no place for antisemitism at the BBC. I and everyone need to ensure that the BBC is a role model for inclusivity and tolerance and we all have a part to play." Bob Vylan responds to criticism of Glastonbury gig Bob Vylan responded to the outcry in a post on Instagram on Tuesday (July 1), saying they had been "targeted for speaking up". "We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine," they said. They added that "we, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. We are a distraction from the story, and whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction". BREAKING: Bob Vylan, the duo who led an anti-IDF chant at Glastonbury, have been dropped from Radar Festival in Manchester 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube — Sky News (@SkyNews) July 2, 2025 A criminal investigation into Bob Vylan's performance has already been launched by Avon and Somerset Police. Alongside that, another criminal investigation from the same police force is set to assess Kneecap's Glastonbury performance. Band member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terrorism offence earlier this year. This was for allegedly displaying the flag of the proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at a gig. He has denied the charge. Although there was no live stream of Kneecap's performance, the BBC later uploaded a largely unedited version of the set to its Glastonbury highlights page on BBC iPlayer.

Portrait of last Battle of Britain pilot handed over at National Museum
Group Captain Hemingway, originally from Dublin, was the final surviving member of 'The Few', who took to the skies in 1940 to defend the UK against Luftwaffe attacks in what became a pivotal moment of the Second World War. He died in March this year, at the age of 105. His portrait will find a permanent home at the Irish National Gallery. Group Captain John 'Paddy' Hemingway (Brian Lawless/PA) The portrait, unveiled by Mr Hemingway at the British Embassy in Dublin last year marking his 105th birthday, was painted by Welsh artist Dan Llywelyn Hall, 44. He was the last living pilot from the Battle of Britain and would have been 106 on July 17. Mr Llywelyn Hall is known for numerous portraits, such as the Queen, Shane MacGowan, Amy Winehouse and other public figures. Mr Llywelyn Hall said: 'I am pleased for the portrait of the Last of the Few, John Hemingway, to be a legacy for the public in John's native Ireland. 'It's especially meaningful this portrait will live in Dublin as it was John's home and held in great affection. 'This portrait serves as both a record of remarkable life and a testament to the rich personality beyond the uniform.' Brenda Malone, curator of Irish Military History, said: 'We are delighted to accept this generous gift from Dan, and are particularly happy to record John Hemingway's story, through his portrait, with us. 'The National Museum collects and preserves the history of Irishmen and women's experience of military service around the world, especially in times of conflict. 'John's story stands as a representation for the many Irish people who served in the Royal Air Force during WWII. 'His portrait and history will form a valuable part of our collections which we hold in trust for the Irish people.'

It doesn't make sense – Cristiano Ronaldo leads tributes to Diogo Jota
Cristiano Ronaldo said 'it doesn't make sense' following the death of his Portugal team-mate Diogo Jota, aged 28. The Liverpool forward died following a car crash in Spain, along with his younger brother Andre Silva, who was also a professional footballer and played for Liga Portugal 2 side Penafiel. Jota helped Liverpool to win the Premier League title last season and was part of the Portugal side, along with Ronaldo, that lifted the Nations League last month, and he got married less than a fortnight ago. Não faz sentido. Ainda agora estávamos juntos na Seleção, ainda agora tinhas casado. À tua familia, à tua mulher e aos teus filhos, envio os meus sentimentos e desejo-lhes toda a força do mundo. It is one of the few times when the football family all come together. 'I just cannot believe it. For everybody involved but especially his family – his wife and the children they've got, it's devastating for all involved. 'I can only imagine how his team-mates feel at Liverpool and Portugal, they must be in a world of pain with his friends and family. 'It just shows us all how quickly life can change. What a summer he's had, and you get this devastating news that his family have had in the last few hours, you can't even comprehend it.' UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said in a statement: 'Just three weeks ago, I had the honour of presenting Diogo Jota with a medal after the UEFA Nations League final – a moment of joy, pride, and celebration that will now forever be burned in memory with sorrow. 'His passion, energy and spirit on the field inspired everyone around him. It is devastating to think that a life so full of joy and potential has been taken far too soon. Rest in peace, dear Diogo. You will not be forgotten.'
