Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Dead Hang Challenge Highlights The Importance Of Grip Strength
Last Updated: Samantha Ruth Prabhu shared a video on her Instagram where she demonstrated her grip strength by performing a 90-second dead hang challenge alongside her trainers. Samantha Ruth Prabhu has always been admired for her disciplined approach to fitness and wellness. The actor regularly shares snippets from her workouts and wellness routines, encouraging her followers to invest in their physical and mental health. In a recent Instagram post, Samantha took on the 90-second dead hang challenge alongside her trainers, Pavneet Chhabra and Paridhi Joshi. More than just a test of endurance, the challenge spotlighted a key component of fitness that often goes unnoticed – grip strength. In her caption, Samantha Ruth Prabhu wrote, 'It's not about how you look. Not about genetics. Not about muscle mass or flexed selfies. It's about how strong you are when no one's watching." The message served as a reminder that strength and resilience go far beyond aesthetics. What Is A Dead Hang? A dead hang is a deceptively simple exercise where you hang from a horizontal bar with your feet off the ground, using only your hands and upper body to hold on. While it may look easy, maintaining this position requires strong forearms, shoulders, core stability, and most importantly, grip strength. It's often used as a benchmark in fitness routines to assess upper-body endurance and joint stability. Why Does Grip Strength Matter? According to health experts like Canadian-American physician Dr. Peter Attia, grip strength is one of the strongest predictors of longevity and quality of life. In the same video Samantha posted, Dr. Attia explains that for individuals aged 40–50, the ability to hang for a specific duration correlates with overall muscular and neurological health. He suggests that women in this age range should aim for a 90-second dead hang, while men should target two minutes. He also mentions another important metric: the ability to carry a significant percentage of one's body weight in each hand for at least a minute, which reflects full-body strength and endurance. Functional movements like the dead hang are gaining popularity in the fitness world, not just for performance, but for the role they play in maintaining independence as we age. Samantha's challenge was not just a personal milestone, but a timely reminder to shift focus from how our bodies look to what they can actually do. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 12:31 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. World ORS Day 2025: How To Stay Safely Hydrated While Recovering From Fever
Last Updated: This World ORS Day, remember that sipping the right fluids, especially a WHO approved ORS, is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to support your recovery Imagine that you are running a marathon and reaching the finish line out of breath and covered in sweat, what does your body need the most in that moment? Hydration with the right amount of electrolytes. Now think, when you are sick, your body is working overtime to fight the infection, which causes a fever. The fever triggers sweating, leading to the loss of water and essential electrolytes. While medicines are doing their job, we often overlook how important it is to hydrate and do it the right way to help the body recover. This World ORS Day, Dr Usha Chennuru, Medical Head, Cipla Health Ltd., shares why it is important to consume WHO-approved ORS formulation, which is the only scientifically proven solution to effectively reverse and correct dehydration almost instantly. 1. Fever- Fluid Loss It's a common observation that as the temperature comes down the body sweats to cool off, leading to the loss of water and electrolytes from the body. This leaves you feeling drained and weaker than usual. Hence, it becomes important to replenish the body with only WHO approved ORS. 2. Headaches, Dizziness, and Dehydration Go Hand-in-Hand The body is trying to maintain the body temperature and if not hydrated throughout, it might further add to the symptoms like headache, dizziness, dry mouth, and more. Hydrating regularly will help fight these off and aid the recovery process. When you're sick, especially with a fever, your sense of taste and appetite often take a hit. This leads to a reduced intake of both food and fluids, making it even harder for your body to stay hydrated. Sipping on an ORS reverses and prevents further dehydration, and supports your recovery. 4. Adequate hydration Helps Flush Toxins Fever is not a disease in itself, but a symptom of many ailments-it means the body is fighting off an infection. During this time, your body may sweat profusely, and symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea may occur, leading to excessive fluid loss and dehydration. Therefore, it is important to drink plenty of fluids to replenish your body. Feeling sick with a fever can be one of the most vulnerable moments, and we often overlook the easiest ways to feel better. The habit of regular hydration is crucial even on a normal day; however, it becomes even more important when you have a fever and want to ensure a speedy recovery. This World ORS Day, remember that sipping the right fluids, especially a WHO approved ORS, is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to support your recovery. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 10:12 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 16-Year-Old Nearly Dies After Desparate 2-Week Effort To Fit Into Birthday Dress
Last Updated: A 16-year-old girl in China was hospitalised after surviving only on vegetables and laxatives for two weeks to fit into her birthday dress, risking her life Many young people, particularly girls, often go to great lengths to lose weight, making exercise a daily habit and experimenting with various diet trends. However, health experts have increasingly warned that no single diet works for everyone, and extreme methods can be dangerous. One such alarming case has emerged from China, where a 16-year-old girl ended up in hospital after following a drastic diet plan that nearly cost her life. Her only goal was to fit into a new dress for her birthday. The teenage girl, named Mei, from Hunan province in central China, narrowly escaped death. In a desperate attempt to lose weight quickly and fit into a new birthday dress, she started consuming only vegetables and laxatives. Laxatives are substances that stimulate bowel movements, and Mei assumed this would help her shed weight faster. For two weeks, she restricted herself to minimal portions of vegetables and regularly took laxatives. Mei's extreme diet was motivated by a desire to look slim for her birthday celebration. However, after two weeks of this restrictive routine, her body began to shut down. She lost strength in her arms and legs and had difficulty breathing, prompting an emergency hospital visit. Blood tests revealed that Mei was suffering from severe hypokalaemia – a dangerously low level of potassium in the blood. This condition, if left untreated, can lead to respiratory failure and even a sudden heart attack. Mei was, quite literally, on the brink of cardiac arrest. She underwent a 12-hour emergency medical procedure and, fortunately, made a miraculous recovery. She has now been discharged from the hospital. Doctors say Mei was extremely lucky to receive treatment in time. They are using her case to warn others, especially young people, about the dangers of following extreme diet plans without medical supervision. 'She treated herself really badly. She just needs to run 5km a day," one user commented on Weibo, China's version of Twitter. Another added: 'Laxatives! She's not trying to lose weight—she's trying to kill herself." view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
