'Defence minister spoke a lot, but didn't answer…': Congress MP Gogoi on Pahalgam attack in Op Sindoor debate
'This is the age of war of information. The honourable minister spoke a lot, but did not answer how the terrorists could reach Pahalgam at all, and managed to slaughter 26 people there,' Gogoi, deputy leader if the Congress in the Lok Sabha, said.

He said the Opposition had sought the special debate on Operation Sindoor 'precisely to ask these questions'. Gogoi said the government must take responsibility, and not "hide behind" Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha, who recently took 'moral responsibility' for what he called a 'security failure'.
Gogoi started his speech by saying that 'certain forces were at work to spread wrong information' after the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered 'political speeches' in Bihar, after completing his ongoing Saudi Arabia trip at the time of the Pahalgam attack, 'rather than visit the affected region immediately'.
'Only our leader Rahul Gandhi went there to meet people who were affected,' he said, as ruling alliance members sought to shout him down.
Earlier, starting the debate, minister Rajnath Singh equated India's action with Lord Hanuman's burning of Ravan's Lanka in the Hindu epic Ramayan.
Rajnath Singh, giving details of the operation, stressed that India had acted in self-defence and in retaliation after three armed terrorists killed 26 men in Pahalgam, a tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir.
Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, specifically between 1:05 and 1:30 am. The operation involved missile strikes on nine terrorist targets, the government said.

They ended the war with Pakistan at my deal with India is not finalised. India has been a good friend, but India has charged basically more tariffs than almost any other country," Trump said when asked by reporters aboard Air Force One if India is going to pay high tariffs, between 20-25 per cent. Opposition leaders, however, said that the prime minister did not categorically deny Trump's claim of brokering peace between India and Pakistan. Congress leader Pawan Khera said they haven't received a single answer. "We were asking for a discussion because both we and the country wanted answers. We haven't got a single answer," Khera told PTI Videos. "Simple question is how did Pahalgam happen, how did the terrorists manage to get into India, and attack our civilians, our tourists. No answers," he said. "Why did the announcement of ceasefire come from America? That's a question we haven't got an answer for," Khera said. Samajwadi Party chief and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav, in an apparent reference to China, said the Indian government could not see the real threat, even though he did not name the country. In his earlier speech in Lok Sabha, Yadav had compared China's 'threat to India'to any threat of terrorism. "They are not able to see the real threat, who is standing behind Pakistan. If they can't see the real threat despite being in the government, what can be done..." the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said. Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose said the speech was "theatrical", but failed to answer questions. "Typically theatrical speech by the prime minister. He failed to answer the questions of the Opposition. First question about the intelligence and security failure that led to the terror attack in Pahalgam," Ghose said. "Second, why is it that India's diplomatic outreach failed to achieve the desired results? Third, why has President Trump repeatedly taken the credit for the India-Pakistan ceasefire, and linked it to commerce, to trade deal," she said. Ghose said the prime minister failed to answer these questions. "All we had was typical theatre and drama, and typical Nehru bashing," she said. She also said that PM Narenda Modi should publicly say that President Trump is "not telling the truth". "The prime minister has failed to counter President Trump," she said. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said PM Modi tried to take the whole credit for Operation Sindoor. "Prime Minister Modi, in his two-hour speech, tried to take full credit for Operation Sindoor. At the beginning of the speech, he said that the people of the country supported him. He is wrong, people of the country fully supported the government and the Indian Army," he said, adding that the prime minister did not mention China even once in his speech. Congress MP KC Venugopal said there was nothing new in what the prime minister said. "What Amit Shah said today morning is repeated by the prime minister. There was nothing else," he said.

A circular issued by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh outlined the activities planned between August 10 and 15 across all states and districts. Highlighting the campaign's significance, the circular draws from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address in Parliament, where he declared the ongoing monsoon session as 'India's victory celebration", commemorating the decisive offensive under Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister underscored the operation as a symbol of the valour of India's armed forces and the nation's resolve to dismantle terrorism at its roots. Between August 13 and 15, party workers are instructed to ensure the Indian flag is hoisted at every home and establishment. Notably, the circular emphasises that wherever possible, hoisting should be done by children, instilling a sense of pride and connection among the younger generation. On the evening of August 15, the flag must be respectfully lowered as per protocol. A major cleanliness drive will be undertaken from August 12 to 14 at memorials, war monuments, and freedom struggle sites, followed by floral tributes. Special attention will be paid to honouring war veterans, martyrs, and families of police personnel who laid down their lives in the service of the nation. Senior leaders and workers in border states have been directed to visit border posts with prior permission to honour soldiers stationed there. On August 14, the party will observe Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas (Partition Horrors Remembrance Day) with silent marches, exhibitions, hall meetings, and outreach to families affected by the 1947 partition. The circular mandates the formation of state-level committees and completion of preparatory meetings at all levels by August 8.
