291 roads closed in Himachal as rains continue

Shimla, July 31 (PTI) A total of 291 roads, including the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway 21, were blocked for vehicular traffic in Himachal Pradesh following rains in the past few days.
Meanwhile, the local MeT office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rains at isolated places for the next four days, officials said on Thursday.
Out of the 291 roads, 171 roads were blocked in the disaster-hit Mandi district, followed by 76 in Kullu district, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). Around 416 power distribution transformers and 219 water supply schemes have also been affected across the state as of Thursday evening, the SEOC said.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains lashed parts of the state since Wednesday evening. Dharamshala received 54.4 mm of rain since Wednesday evening, followed by Murari Devi 52.4 mm, Kothi 49.1 mm, Sundernagar 41.7 mm, Gohar 40 mm, Sarahan 34 mm, Naina Devi 28.6 mm, Mandi 26.2 mm, Pandoh 26 mm, Baggi 25.8 mm, Jubbarhatti 24.4 mm and Slapper 24.1 mm.
The MeT office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rains at isolated places in three to ten districts from Thursday till Monday.
Since the onset of monsoon in Himachal on June 20 till July 31, the state has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 1,626 crore.
So far, 95 people have died and 36 have gone missing in rain-related incidents, while 1,472 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state. The state has witnessed 44 flash floods, 27 cloudbursts and 40 major landslides, officials said. PTI BPL MPL MPL

Himachal: 2 NH among 297 roads closed, orange alert for very heavy rains
Moderate to heavy rains continued to lash parts of Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the closure of 297 roads, including one national highway on Sunday, officials said. The fatalities include 20 drownings, 19 deaths from falls, 17 deaths from cloudbursts, eight from flash floods, and six from landslides, officials said. Since Saturday evening, several regions have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, with Bharari recording 108.2 mm, follow ed by Murari Devi with 82 mm, Naina Devi at 74.4 mm, Malraon at 56.2 mm, Brahmani at 45.4 mm, Una at 38 mm, and Jot at 36.2 mm. A total of 297 roads, including NH-505 (Khab to Gramphoo) have been closed for vehicular traffic as of Sunday evening. The majority of these, 164 roads, are in the heavily affected Mandi district, while 67 are in Kullu district, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). Additionally, 134 power distribution transformers and 266 water supply schemes have been affected across the state, the SEOC said. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20 until August 3, the state has incurred losses totalling Rs 1,714 crore. As many as 1,649 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state, with 53 flash floods, 28 cloudbursts and 47 major landslides recorded this season, officials said.

Spell of heavy rainfall expected to continue for next 24-36 hours in UP
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Lucknow, Aug 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a spell of heavy rainfall, which is expected to continue for the next 24-36 hours without significant change, as per the meteorological department. According to a press note from the meteorological department on Sunday, the active monsoon conditions are a result of a favourable synoptic situation. The monsoon trough has shifted north of its normal position, passing through Shamli, Shahjahanpur, and Lucknow. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over the northeastern part of the state, adjacent to Bihar, is contributing to the heavy rainfall. Forecasters predict that the intensity of rain will gradually decrease from August 5, though a period of heavy rainfall is likely to persist until August 6. From 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, several areas recorded significant rainfall. Siddharthnagar received 96 mm, Amethi 70.1 mm, Bareilly 66.6 mm, and Kaushambi 65.5 mm. The state capital, Lucknow, recorded 61.5 mm. The rainfall caused a significant drop in temperatures, with Lucknow's maximum temperature falling to 28.5 degrees Celsius, which is 4.8 degrees Celsius below normal. The forecast for Lucknow suggests moderate to heavy rainfall in most areas on Monday with temperatures expected to remain below average.
