Kota Kinabalu: A 48-year-old man was charged with committing physical sexual harassment against a nine-year-old girl. Lai Hiap Lee pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus to the charge against him.
Advertisement He is accused of committing the offence by squeezing the girl's breasts in the evening on May 18 this year at a premises in Jalan Kobusak Nosoob, Penampang. Lai, a jobless, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction. The court set July 2 for pre-trial case management and released Lai on bail of RM5,000 in two local sureties. The court also ordered Lai to report to the nearest police station once a month and his passport, if any, to be kept by the court until the disposal of his case. Lai was also reminded to not tamper or communicate with the prosecution witnesses, otherwise his bail would be revoked. Azam Baki confirms possible prosecutions in Sabah graft case

BEAUFORT: A teacher from SK Padang Berempah, Ag Kujai Wahab, 52, who went missing while searching for his buffaloes on Thursday morning, was found safe on Friday afternoon. District Fire and Rescue Station chief Ishak Jabas said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched with the help of police and local villagers. Advertisement The victim was reported missing by his family after he failed to return from the Nabahan Weston area, where he had gone to look for his buffaloes. The fire team travelled by boat from the Weston jetty to Kampung Nabahan and established an incident command post to coordinate the operation. Third conviction sees Kuching junkie jailed 5 months, ordered caned
Tony at the court following the proceedings. – Photo by Kentigern Minggu KUCHING (June 6): A habitual drug user was sentenced by the Sessions Court here today to five months' imprisonment and two strokes of the cane for abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine. Judge Musli Ab Hamid convicted Tony Kuswadi Martin, 42, on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act. The Section provides for imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than seven years, and whipping of up to three strokes, upon conviction. Tony was also ordered to undergo two years of police supervision upon his release from prison. He was tested positive for the two drugs at the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at around 2pm on June 2, 2025. It was informed that the accused has two prior convictions, in 2017 and 2022, for the same offence.
