Police eventually found the boy inside a pilgrims' camp and reunited him with his father near Falauda village in the evening.
The boy, who had embarked on the pilgrimage from Barkali village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, got separated from his father Babloo Kumar on the Delhi-Haridwar national highway on Sunday.
Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 14 (PTI) Nine-year-old Sheersh, who was on his maiden Kanwar Yatra, thinks he encountered nothing short of a pure divine intervention.
According to a statement issued by the office of Senior Superintendent of Police on Monday, acting on a child missing complaint, the police started searching for the boy and found him in a camp.
Sadar Circle Officer Devwrat Bajpai told PTI, 'After they were reunited, both the child and the father were moved to tears with joy.' Babloo Kumar said he had taken Sheersh with him on Kanwar Yatra for the first time ever this year. Two days ago, they went to Haridwar to collect holy water from river Ganga. While they were returning on foot on the highway along with other kanwariyas, his son went missing.
He filed a complaint with the Uttar Pradesh Police, who eventually found Sheersh at a pilgrim's camp and returned his son to him.
The duo then continued their yatra to reach Barkali village. PTI COR NAV RUK RUK

‘Gangrape, physical assault & threats': Woman cop in UP files complaint against S-I, his friend

TWO YEARS after she was allegedly raped and 'frequently blackmailed' by a sub-inspector (S-I) colleague, a woman constable with the Uttar Pradesh Police has now filed a complaint against him and one of his friends. The FIR was registered on Sunday, naming S-I Ravikant Goswami and his friend, Dikshant Sharma, accusing them of gangrape, physical assault, blackmail and repeated threats to kill her and her family. According to the police, the first assault took place in 2023, when the woman was visiting Mathura district for a function to which she had invited Goswami. He allegedly called her to a room in a hotel where he had booked a stay. In the room, he allegedly gave her juice that had been spiked. After drinking it, the woman lost consciousness, after which the S-I allegedly raped her. When she woke up, she found that she had been raped and filmed and was threatened that if she told anyone, he would leak the videos and kill her family, the woman has told the police. Months passed, she alleged, but the harassment continued. A few months later the same year, she alleged, she was again forced to meet Goswami — this time at a hotel in Moradabad, where he threatened her again and said he would release the earlier video. She found that his friend, Dikshant Sharma, was also present in the room. They once again allegedly made her drink something, which made her feel drowsy, before raping her again. Videos of the act were recorded and she was again blackmailed and threatened by the S-I and his friend, the complaint alleges. In the months that followed, the woman said that she tried to keep away and 'ignored Goswami's phone calls.' But in January this year, she alleged, he tracked her down again — in Jhansi. She alleged that Goswami, who was 'following' her, suddenly accosted her and started beating her up for not picking up his calls. 'She suffered a fracture in a finger,' said a police officer, citing the complaint. The woman's complaint has been converted into an FIR under IPC Sections 376D (gangrape), 328 (causing hurt by poison), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (causing grievous hurt), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation), police said. 'This is a serious matter. We are verifying the allegations and collecting evidence. Appropriate legal action will be taken,' said a senior police officer.

US govt employee banned from leaving China

Agency: PTI Washington, Jul 22 (AP) A US government employee has been banned from leaving China after travelling there in a personal capacity, the State Department said Tuesday, marking the latest case where Beijing has stopped US nationals from departing the country. The State Department did not reveal the identity of the employee at the US Patent and Trademark Office, which is part of the Commerce Department, but said it is 'tracking this case very closely" and that it is engaged with Chinese officials to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. 'The Department of State has no higher priority than the safety and security of American citizens," it said. The Chinese government restricts people from leaving the country if they are involved in investigations, including business disputes, but it has been accused of using the tool to arbitrarily keep both Chinese and foreign nationals in the country. China's use of the exit ban and other concerns previously prompted the State Department to tell Americans to reconsider travel to China. The travel advisory was only eased in November after China released three US citizens who were detained for years. It's one of the latest instances of such travel restrictions. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Chenyue Mao, a US-based Wells Fargo banker, was blocked from leaving China, prompting the bank to suspend all travel to the country. Guo Jiakun, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, said Mao is 'involved in a criminal case currently being handled by Chinese law-enforcement authorities" and that she is 'subject to exit restrictions in accordance with the law". 'Let me stress that it is an individual judicial case," Guo said. 'China will as always welcome people from all countries to travel and do business in China and ensure their rights and interests in accordance with the law." Asked about the case involving the US government employee, Guo said: 'I have no details to share. China upholds the rule of law and handles entry and exit affairs in accordance with the law." Other Americans have faced China's exit ban. Two American siblings were only allowed to leave China in 2021 after they were stranded there for three years after visiting their relatives.
