In the Middle East, wars continue to cast shadows on energy and logistics, Gautam Adani said at Adani Enterprises ' Annual General Meeting on Tuesday. In Europe, economic confidence has stumbled, and the US has its own challenges, he said, adding that in the midst of all this noise, India stood apart and grew faster than any other major nation. The Middle East tensions, in particular, are believed to be a cause of concern for the Adani group, as at the centre of Adani's presence in Israel is Haifa Port, where Adani Ports holds a 70% stake acquired in 2023 for $1.2 billion in partnership with Israel's Gadot Group. Strategically located in northern Israel, the port contributes around 3% to Adani Ports' annual cargo volume and is critical for Israeli imports and exports. The Economic Times reported on June 14 that Iranian ballistic missiles had targeted Haifa and a nearby oil refinery amid heightened hostilities between the two countries. Shrapnel reportedly hit parts of a chemical terminal and refinery close to the port. However, the Adani Group denied any damage to port operations.During past regional escalations, Adani Ports shares had slipped as dry bulk vessels encountered bottlenecks. Market participants noted that while the financial exposure may be limited, the symbolic and strategic weight of the asset makes it vulnerable to sustained geopolitical tensions. In the most recent development, US President Donald Trump said today that a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran will go into force with a view to ending the conflict between the two nations.Adani also spoke on US Department of State and the FCC-related allegations against the group."When we faced allegations from the U.S. Department of State and the FCC related to Adani Green Energy, the facts—despite all the noise—remain that no one from the Adani Group has been charged with violating the FCPA or obstructing justice."Even in a turbulent year, we stand as proof of a group that dares to dream beyond constraints, the Indian billionaire said."We live in a world where negativity often echoes louder than the truth. And as we cooperate with legal processes, let me also restate that our governance is of global standards, and our compliance frameworks are non-negotiable."The comments of the billionaire are based on US authorities indicting Adani and his nephew, Sagar Adani for allegedly paying bribes to secure Indian power supply contracts, and misled U.S. investors during fund raises. The SEC summoned Adani and his nephew, alleging they paid millions in bribes to Indian officials while misrepresenting antibribery compliance during a $750 million Adani Green Energy bond offering.Previously, the US Securities and Exchange Commission had requested assistance from India's Ministry of Law and Justice in its investigation of Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani over alleged securities fraud and a $265 million bribery scheme, reported Reuters citing a court filing.Last year, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn unsealed an indictment accusing Adani of bribing Indian officials to convince them to buy electricity produced by Adani Green Energy, a subsidiary of his Adani Group conglomerate, and then misleading U.S. investors by providing reassuring information about the company's anti-corruption practices.

MCD to reintroduce PPP scheme for park maintenance in Delhi

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi intends to go back to the public-private partnership model for maintaining parks with a per-acre payment up to Rs 15,000. In the pre-unified era, the erstwhile south, north, and east municipal corporations had adopted this scheme, paying Rs 13,500 in south, Rs 8,000 in north, and Rs 8,500 in east Delhi for park maintenance. The programme was halted in 2022 when MCD couldn't settle payments under the scheme with the residents' welfare associations. "The proposed reintroduction of the PPP scheme has been sent for financial observations and will be placed in the standing committee soon," said an MCD official on Tuesday. The civic body currently has outstanding dues of Rs 16 crore on this account and instructions have been given to process the payment after receiving updated bills from RWAs. The three zones of Rohini, Keshavpuram and Narela account for around Rs 10 crore of the dues since 2019. "Due to lack of budgeting in the previous years, the pending payments could not be processed. However, the matter is under active consideration and pending dues will be cleared, subject to availability of funds," said the official. "Due to bills remaining unpaid for 2-3 years, RWAs were in a quandary, unsure whether to terminate their contract or continue under the present circumstances. Some RWAs were lucky to have bills till Dec 2023 settled, though it took them dogged pursuance," disclosed an RWA member from East of Kailash. RWAs claimed that MCD lacked even the resources and personnel to remove green waste from parks or the equipment for basic pruning and mowing. Some RWAs are still paying from their own funds to maintain the parks, fearing that a break in maintenance will cause their deterioration. MCD officials revealed there is a plan under way to transfer parks bigger than three acres to private concessionaires for upkeep. "In Karol Bagh zone, we launched a pilot project and called applications from expert agencies to maintain 41 parks. The pilot phase involves allocating 94 acres of land to an agency responsible for engaging staff and planting trees at an estimated cost of Rs 3.6 crore," said an official. Similar steps will be taken in the other 11 zones where the selected agency will be responsible for maintaining greenery, cleaning and sweeping the lawns regularly and transporting the green waste to the waste processing centres. Plants will be provided by MCD from its nurseries.

Jagan slams Andhra govt for ‘failing to support students and unemployed youth'

'The lathi-charge on students in Narasaraopet exposed the government's violent, intolerant nature,' said Reddy in a post on X, referring to police dispersing the protesters in Narasaraopeta city in Palnadu district. Hailing the statewide 'Yuvatha Poru (youth struggle)' protest led by his party on Monday against the alleged unfulfillment of giving unemployment allowances, Reddy said that the government has failed to honour its promises such as jobs and education support. Amaravati, Jun 24 (PTI) YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday lashed out at the ruling TDP-led coalition government, accusing it of betraying youth and students. The former CM questioned why students were allegedly assaulted for simply submitting representations and asking for the implementation of the Rs 3,000 monthly unemployment allowance as promised by the TDP during the election campaign. Reddy questioned how many of the 1.25 crore unemployed youth in the state received the allowance. The YSRCP supremo further alleged that Rs 6,400 crore in dues from the erstwhile YSRCP government schemes, Jagananna Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena, remained unpaid, 'forcing students to abandon education and seek jobs.' He alleged that only Rs 750 crore was released from the Rs 4,200 crore due under the fee reimbursement scheme, while Rs 2,200 crore was pending under hostel assistance. He warned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu against crushing dissent and declared that betrayal, lies and neglect would not go unpunished by the people.
