Police issue update on raid in Bolton amid 'Hitler party' probe with Nazi memorabilia

Yahoo08-05-2025

Police have confirmed they were called to an address in Deane as part of a' Hitler party' probe.
As reported in The Bolton News yesterday, officers investigating reports that a group of people who celebrated Hitler's birthday with Nazi memorabilia at a pub in Royton last month raided addresses Rochdale, Bolton, Trafford, Stockport, and Southport yesterday morning.
One of those addresses included Addington Road in Deane.

Officers said that following the recovery of a suspected grenade at a property in Bolton, the bomb squad were deployed.
The item was later declared safe, with officers reassuring people that there was no risk to the wider public.
In total nine people were arrested as part of yesterday morning's operation in Greater Manchester and Southport.
They have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Public Order Act offences, which includes allegedly displaying written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, intended to stir up racial hatred.
Officers say they recovered imitation firearms, weapons including swords and a crossbow, and Nazi memorabilia and materials in the raids.
Police have been in contact with officers from the Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) who have offered advice on some of the materials which have been seized.
Officers say that residents may see an increased presence of police officers in the community. They are there to assist with enquiries and offer reassurance to residents.
Assistant chief constable Steph Parker of Greater Manchester Police said: 'Due to the nature of the materials we [allegedly] recovered at the warrants today, we have liaised with colleagues at CTPNW. This is a matter of course, and it very much remains a GMP led investigation.
'It's important that all avenues are explored to establish the extent of the criminal offences which have been committed, and whilst our investigation is still in its early stages, we do not believe there to be a risk to the wider public.
'This group clearly has a deep fascination with ideas that we know are unsettling for communities across Greater Manchester. We must take action when concerns are raised, and where weapons are suspected, to ensure people are free to live without fear of intimidation or harm.
'Public safety is at the forefront of our investigation, and as always, we ask that you remain vigilant, and if you have any information or concerns, then to contact us.'
Residents on Addington Street said police were at the scene until into the evening. They described a huge presence on the street.

Police make arrest after yob reportedly tried to unplug IRONMAN soundsystem

Police have made an arrest after a yob reportedly tried to unplug the soundsystem at the IRONMAN Night Run. The run, which took place last night, June 6, saw numerous participants take on either a 5km or 10km in the town centre. The fastest runner, Daniel Harrison, finished the 5km race in 17 minutes and three seconds. The event went off without a hitch, though police who were present were forced into action. Officers had to step in when a male reportedly tried to "unplug the soundsystem". He was arrested for public nuisance. "The weather didn't dampen the mood but one male tried to when he tried to unplug the sound system! He was arrested for public nuisance and remains in custody." Police on scene (Image: GMP) Police will be in Bolton all weekend to support the events, GMP say, as part of Project Servator. Officers will talk to the public, local businesses and private security staff to let them know what they're doing and remind them to be vigilant, trust their instincts and report any suspicious or unusual behaviour. Members of the public will see, "as a minimum", uniform and plain-clothes officers, but officers from other departments such as dog units or armed officers may be deployed too, depending on the force's specific requirements. GMP adds that the patrols are highly visible, and that if members of the public see officers, there is nothing to be concerned about as it is "normal police activity" and isn't linked to specific intelligence about a threat in the area.

Crime falls in town centre, council says

Crime in Grimsby town centre has dropped over the last year, North East Lincolnshire Council has said. The authority said alcohol related anti-social behaviour has declined by 51%, compared with 2023/24. There were also drops in the number of bike thefts and violent injuries. Shopkeeper Paul Berry, who has run a comics and collectables shop on Victoria Street South for 28 years, said police and the council "still need to do more". "It's still very noticeable, the anti-social behaviour and stuff," he said. "I mean the town as a whole has got quiet, so maybe that's why the numbers have dropped. "The footfall is like way down on what it used to be." The council claimed the fall was down to Safer Street initiatives in partnership with Humberside Police and other agencies. There have been a number of Days of Action where penalty notices are handed out for cycling and alcohol offences and homeless sleepers are offered support, the council said. Insp Claire Jacobs said: ''The operation has played a significant role in making Grimsby Town Centre a safer and more welcoming space. "Through proactive policing, strong partnerships, and dedicated community engagement, we've seen a significant reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour. "Our approach is not just about enforcement but also about education and support, ensuring that everyone feels safe and valued in this town. "We will continue working closely with local partners to further build on this success and keep strengthening our community." According to the council, anti-social behaviour incidents in the town centre fell from 224 in 2023/24 to 192 incidents in 2024/25. There were 115 incidents of violence leading to injury in 2023/24 and 88 instances over the last year. There were 16 bike thefts in 2024/25 compared with 30 in the previous year.
