KeAndre Lambert-Smith impresses in 2025 Hall of Fame Game in Chargers debut
The 2025 NFL Preseason got underway on Thursday night with the annual Hall of Fame Game played in Canton, Ohio Thursday night. A big standout in the game was Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith. The former Auburn Tigers pass catcher impressed anyone who watched him play last season on the plains. He was one of the few bright spots for a tough season for Auburn that ended with a 5-7 record.
In his one season with Auburn, Lambert-Smith caught 50 passes for 981 yards and eight touchdowns. He led the team in catches and yards. Lambert-Smith was tied with Cam Coleman for team lead in touchdown receptions. When he arrived at Auburn he did so as the top wide receiver in the transfer portal after playing at Penn State for four seasons. His production over his career resulted in being drafted by the Chargers with the No. 158 pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Lambert-Smith did not wait to impress the Chargers or the national audience watching the game on Thursday night. In the Chargers 34-7 win over the Detroit Lions, Lambert-Smith caught two passes for 43 yards and one touchdown. On the second possession for the Chargers, he caught a deep pass near the sideline for 28 yards from quarterback Trey Lance. While that catch did not result in points for the Chargers, the second one did. With 1:51 remaining until halftime, Lance found Lambert-Smith on a slant for a 15-yard touchdown catch.
According to Pro Football Focus, Lambert-Smith was the highest graded offensive player from the Hall of Fame Game at 90. On Thursday night, Chargers fans got a glimpse at what Auburn fans already knew about Lambert-Smith. He is a big time player that will make big time plays at the next level.

Chargers star Rashawn Slater's season-ending injury deals major blow to offensive line
The Los Angeles Chargers offensive line has been dealt a significant blow. All-Pro left tackle Rashawn Slater will be sidelined for the entire 2025 season with a ruptured patellar tendon, the team confirmed. Slater left Thursday's practice on the back of a medical cart. He was noticeably devastated during his trip back inside the team's complex, slamming his fist on the cart and tossing his helmet. The 26-year-old is expected to undergo surgery to repair the torn tendon. The Chargers moved Slater to injured reserve. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON Slater was executing a block during a team drill when he fell to the ground. He quickly grabbed his left leg as he lay on the turf in noticeable pain. Slater could not stand on the leg, so his teammates and Chargers trainers helped the 315-pound lineman to his feet. CHARGERS' DENZEL PERRYMAN RELEASED FROM JAIL AFTER FIREARMS ARREST, INVESTIGATION STILL ONGOING Less than two weeks ago, Slater inked a record-breaking contract extension that tied him to the Chargers for the foreseeable future. The deal made Slater the NFL's highest-paid offensive lineman in average annual salary. The deal was valued at $113 million and includes $92 million in guarantees, ESPN reported. "That's just something you don't want to see," Chargers outside linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu said. "Not only Rashawn, but any of our players." The Chargers bolstered their offensive line in each of the past two offseasons. The team drafted Joe Alt in the first round of 2024 and signed guard Mekhi Becton in March. Second-year Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh recently said he was "bullish" about the offensive line heading into the 2025 season. Becton has been sidelined since July 28 with an unspecified injury. Alt could move to left tackle as the Chargers offensive line prepares for a major reshuffle. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Last season — with Slater's presence — the Chargers offense committed just eight turnovers, a franchise-record low. The Chargers tied for the second-fewest offensive turnovers in a single season in NFL history. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Jim Harbaugh says Najee Harris has "a chance" to play Week One
It's still not clear whether the eye injury suffered by Chargers running back Najee Harris in a Fourth of July fireworks accident will keep him off the field for the start of the regular season. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about Harris today and didn't give a clear answer about whether he'll be able to play in Week One. Asked if Harris might not be ready for the opener, Harbaugh answered, 'There's a chance he is,' according to Kris Rhim of ESPN. Harris posted a picture on social media that led to speculation that he can't open his injured eye, but Harbaugh said he can open it. Although Harris's agent originally called the injury 'superficial,' an injury that could keep him off the field more than two months later would seem to be more serious than that. Harbaugh said he doesn't want to say anything about the injury beyond what he has seen. 'I don't comment because I'm not a doctor. I'm not Mr Harris' agent either. I'm talking about what I know, and 'can he open his eye?' Yeah. I've looked into his eye. I can tell you stuff like that,' Harbaugh said. 'Past that I don't want to characterize something or put words on something or a diagnosis. Just not qualified to do that.' Whether Harris will qualify for the active roster when the Chargers open the season against the Chiefs on September 5 in Brazil remains to be seen.
