Flyers suffer worst loss of the season, 75-53 to St. Bonaventure
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The University of Dayton men's basketball team fell flat at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday night, falling 75-53 to the Bonnies in Atlantic 10 action at the Reilly Center.
It's the Flyers' largest loss of the season (22 points) and worst loss ever to St. Bonaventure.
The Flyers could not overcome a scorching shooting performance from the Bonnies, who shot 50.9% from the floor and 48% from beyond the three-point line. UD shot 40.4% from the floor and 33.3% from downtown.
Senior Nate Santos was Dayton's high scorer, leading the team with 12 points. Fellow senior Enoch Cheeks also finished the game in double-digits with 10. Junior Isaac Jack had nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

Philadelphia Flyers Lose Goalie To Overseas Club
The Philadelphia Flyers have lost one of their depth goalies, as Eetu Makiniemi has signed a one-year contract with TPS of the Finnish Liiga. Makiniemi, 26, signed a one-year contract with the Flyers for the 2024-25 season back in September. This was after he attended the Flyers' training camp on a professional tryout. Advertisement Unfortunately, Makiniemi's season ended in November after he suffered a sports hernia that required surgery. In five games with the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, he posted a 3-0-1 record, a .899 save percentage, and a 3.03 goals-against average. Makiniemi was eligible to hit the market as a Group 6 UFA this summer, but will instead be taking his talents overseas after landing this new deal. The Carolina Hurricanes selected Makiniemi with the 104th overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, but he never played a game for the club. In his two career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks during the 2022-23 season, he recorded a 1-0-1 record, a .906 save percentage, and a 2.13 goals-against average. New Twist On Flyers-Nicolas Hague Trade Rumor Revealed
Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nicolas Hague has been creating plenty of chatter as a potential trade candidate this off-season. It is understandable, as the 6-foot-6 defenseman is a pending restricted free agent and due for a raise. Thus, the Golden Knights could very well end up flipping him if his asking price for his next contract is too high. The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the teams that have been linked to Hague this off-season. When noting that Hague is a big shutdown defenseman right in his prime, he would have the potential to be a solid addition to the Flyers' blueline if acquired. Advertisement However, a new update has been provided regarding the Flyers and Hague trade rumor, which makes it questionable. According to The Athletic's Kevin Kurz, a team source "strongly denied" to him that the Flyers are interested in Hague. In addition, Kurz also added that he does not believe the Flyers will trade for the 26-year-old. While Hague appears not to be on the Flyers' radar, adding a new defenseman should be one of the Flyers' top priorities this summer. It is no secret that their blueline could use a boost, and this is especially the case when it comes to their right side. Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to see what happens with Hague this summer, but Kurz's report creates some doubt about the possibility that Philly will end up acquiring the 2017 third-round pick. Flyers Mock Draft: Expert Predicts Philly's Best-Case Scenario
The Flyers could end up with arguably the most talented forward in the draft class. (Photo: Eric Canha, Imagn Images) The Philadelphia Flyers still hold the sixth pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, but this expert's latest mock draft says that's not such a bad thing after all. Much of the dialogue to this point has centered around which players the Flyers are interested in, where those players will fall in the draft, and which teams are jockeying for their services. Advertisement Philadelphia figures to be one of the teams most locked onto a center, even despite their public comments regarding their willingness to take a winger or a defender. Fortunately for the Flyers, momentum is starting to pick up around the fall of one of the very best centers in the draft class in James Hagens. In his latest mock draft for The Athletic, prospects expert Scott Wheeler predicts Hagens will fall right into the Flyers' laps at No. 6, with Matthew Schaefer, Michael Misa, Anton Frondell, Caleb Desnoyers, and Porter Martone getting drafted ahead of him. "If Hagens gets here, I think the Flyers like him and would consider taking him. Same goes for Desnoyers, whose well-rounded game and smarts could really support and complement Matvei Michkov. But Desnoyers isn't going to be there," Wheeler wrote. "If Hagens isn't, I think they lean [Brady Martin] over Jake O'Brien here in terms of the other centers (though they did take O'Brien to dinner in Buffalo). The pull of a center, and a player like Martin, is real in this range." Advertisement The Utah Mammoth, who pick fourth, are said to be high on Martin as well and could consider taking him inside the top five. Perhaps Utah and Philadelphia are playing a game of chicken with the draft's most violent forward prospect. That said, Hagens is an undeniable talent who continues to draw comparisons to New Jersey Devils superstar Jack Hughes, who's already come within one point of a 100-point season early in his NHL career. Advertisement Pairing the 18-year-old Boston College talisman with Matvei Michkov will set the Flyers up for offensive success for two decades, and the remainder of the grueling rebuild would then center on adding cornerstone pieces around those two. Defenseman Jackson Smith, a potential top-10 pick, could be a trade-up candidate for the Flyers if management and scouts think he can be one of those pieces. On the right side of the defense, the Flyers have Jamie Drysdale, Oliver Bonk, Spencer Gill, and Helge Grans, so they have no need to force an early pick at this position. Plus, who knows what the future holds for Rasmus Ristolainen? Wheeler had other surprises in store for the Flyers in his latest mock draft (be sure to check those out), but landing Hagens would assuredly be the best-case scenario for the Flyers, who finished higher in the standings than many fans would have liked on the heels of that dreary ending to the 2024-25 season.
