Mumbai University closes admission registration; commerce, allied courses most popular
The course-wise data of applications received by MU shows that commerce and allied courses continue to remain most popular among students with the highest number of applications received. First merit lists for UG admissions will be out on Tuesday evening by respective colleges.
More than 3.8 lakh applications have been received for commerce and allied courses offered by MU and affiliated colleges. While traditional commerce course (B.Com) has received more than 1.5 lakh applications, various professional courses offered under the commerce stream have much bigger share when combined. There are more than 2.3 lakh applications received for various professional courses in commerce stream.
In science stream, however, this gap in number of applications between traditional and professional courses is much bigger. While traditional BSc has received nearly 3,5000 applications, various professional courses under science stream have received more than 7,6000 applications combined with new-age courses such as data science and artificial intelligence gaining momentum.
Whereas in Arts stream, for traditional BA course, less than 5,0000 applications have been received. While professional courses under Arts stream such as BAMMC and Psychology are considered much popular, they have received a smaller number of applications. More than 34000 applications have been received for BAMMC whereas, for psychology 5490 applications have been received.
Notably, there are a few courses offered by MU which have received admission applications in single digit numbers. Such courses are Bachelor of Performing Arts, Bachelor of Fine Art, and Bachelor of Engineering in Printing and Packaging Technology.
HSNC University declares first merit list
Hyderabad Sind National Collegiate (HSNC) University declared its first merit list on Monday. The private university in Mumbai includes popular colleges such as KC and HR, located in Churchgate. At both colleges, there is marginal increase in the cut-off scores, compared to last year.
Col Dr. Hemlata K. Bagla, Vice Chancellor, HSNC University, said, 'We are witnessing a significant surge in student interest across diverse domains—from financial markets on one hand to psychology, especially when combined with subjects like sociology, political science, and English. While science enrollments which saw a temporary dip last two years , the number of forms filled has surprisingly doubled compared to last year.'

Physics Wallah to provide free JEE, NEET coaching in Bihar government schools
Edtech firm Physics Wallah will provide free foundational to advanced-level coaching for JEE and NEET to students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and Simultala Awasiya Vidyalayas in Bihar. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Bihar education department, which on Tuesday signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with academic and philanthropic institutions to strengthen educational quality across the state. The support includes interactive digital classes, practice tests, AI-based doubt-solving tools, free access to the firm's app, and regular academic progress monitoring for students of classes 9 to 12. Four other organisations have also partnered with the state to cover initiatives ranging from competitive exam preparation and English language learning to life skills training, entrepreneurship development, and job-oriented skilling for college students. Bharat Innovation Global will support class 8 students across Bihar in preparing for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination. The two-year programme will be delivered through live and recorded classes, supplemented with digital content and practice tests in 'Hinglish', officials said, adding that emphasis will be placed on students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds. Freedom Edu will implement a 'Holistic English Language Learning Programme' across government schools with a focus on building reading fluency, comprehension, verbal communication, and confidence among students. To promote life skills and entrepreneurship, the Going to School Fund will introduce a weekly two-day curriculum for students in classes 7 to 12. The first day will focus on story-based activities, while the second will involve digital project work. For students in higher education, the SGBS Unnati Foundation will offer a job-oriented skill development programme under its UNXT initiative. Final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students in all government and aided colleges will be eligible for a 30-day classroom-based training, consisting of three hours of instruction per day. Students will also be given free access to an e-learning platform featuring more than 600 videos and quizzes. 'The programme aims to connect at least 70 per cent of participants with employment, self-employment, or further education opportunities,' officials said. Education Minister Sunil Kumar, who attended the event, highlighted the government's financial commitment: 'Over 20% of the state's budget is allocated to education. These partnerships will not only bring in innovation and technology but also open new doors of opportunity for students.' He said regular monitoring and outcome-based evaluation would be ensured so that the results of each MoU are visible at the ground level. Dr S Siddharth, the additional chief secretary in the education department, said, 'Bihar has the largest number of students in the country. Providing them with quality resources and competitive guidance is a priority. These partnerships will be a milestone in that direction.'

Patna: Education department on Wednesday signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with five prominent institutions to provide students with better resources and opportunities. The five institutions will focus on different areas. While one will offer free online classes for JEE/NEET exams to Class IX-XII students at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and Simultala Vidyalaya, another will provide similar classes for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship exam to Class VIII students, with a special focus on those from rural areas. Another institution will introduce a holistic English language learning programme to enhance students' reading, communication and comprehension skills. Yet another will provide a weekly two-day module for Class VII-XII students, teaching them life and digital skills, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
