CPI(M) condemns police clampdown, arrests in Karedu village
In a statement on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), CPI(M) State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao accused the government of creating fear and confusion among villagers to extract land consent by coercion, despite local farmers' resistance.
The revenue officials had reportedly entered the village and started collecting Aadhaar numbers, land documents, and passbooks from each household. When villagers refused to comply, they were allegedly intimidated.
During the standoff, leaders of the Rythu Sangham and Agricultural Workers' Union, including Kumar, Pullayya, and G. Venkateswarlu, were arrested and taken to Ulavapadu police station, according to CPI(M).
The CPI(M) leader alleged that Section 30 of the Police Act was imposed across the entire Ulavapadu Mandal, and police posts were set up surrounding Karedu village, effectively placing the village under siege.
'False cases are being filed against farmer leaders. People are being prevented from holding meetings. All of this is part of a plan to illegally seize land by instilling fear,' he alleged.
CPI(M) demanded immediate withdrawal of the police siege, release of the arrested farmer and union leaders, respect for the Gram Sabha resolution opposing land acquisition, and withdrawal of the land acquisition notification for the IndoSol project. He said the public resistance would be intensified if these demands are not met and called the current actions unconstitutional and undemocratic.

‘Speed up decision on database of fake rape complaints'
New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Delhi Police and state govt to expeditiously decide a plea that wants a database of those who file multiple fake complaints of sexual offences, much along the lines of a sex offenders registry. A bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing a PIL that sought its intervention in the form of directions to the police to make people aware of women who repeatedly file fake rape cases. Though declining to issue any directions, the court pointed out that the petitioner had already raised the issue by making a representation to Delhi Police and other authorities and the same should be decided by the authorities in a time bound manner. On the petitioner's request to pass a direction to the authorities concerned to maintain the database, the court said, it was the authorities' domain and "they know better how the policing is to be done" refusing to pass specific directions. The plea alleged a rampant misuse of the rape laws at the instance of a few complainants and highlighted that even courts have been forced to express concern about such fake cases.
