Brendan Rodgers details 'multiple reasons' for Celtic return
Rodgers provoked anger and upset among the Hoops support when he cut short his first spell at the the club to head back to the English Premier League with Leicester.
The reaction was increased because of the timing of the exit - when the club was on the brink of their eighth league title in a row and closing in on 10-in-a-row, which they ultimately ended up missing out on without him.
Finding himself out of work after four years at Leicester, Rodgers completed a sensational return to Parkhead in the summer of 2023 after Ange Postecoglou's departure. While exciting some supporters, others made it clear they did not want the Northern Irishman back because of how he had left.
It didn't take him long to win them back over by exerting Celtic's dominance yet again by winning a double last season, which could now be followed up by a treble.
Speaking ahead of the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen which could clinch that, the 52-year-old spoke about his return to the club two years ago.

Celtic star Daizen Maeda left out by Japan as boss explains omission
He told BBC Sport: "I knew the feeling when I left and I never wanted that to be my legacy here at Celtic. Growing up a Celtic guy and had a wonderful first spell here, for that to be my story..I never really wanted that.
"I always wanted to come back. I didn't know when that was going to be."
Asked if he felt that would be possible, he added: "I hoped it would. There was never a guarantee because obviously if people don't want you back then you're not going to be.
"But I was very thankful I had a really good relationship with Dermot (Desmond) and the board first time, in particular with Dermot, and his confidence and belief in me never wavered.
"So yeah, I always wanted to come back and for multiple reasons. Obviously one of them being I wanted Celtic to do well in Europe and I wanted us to bring Celtic into Europe and be respectable and have credibility.
"So that was a big factor, whilst looking to dominate still domestically because that's your bread and butter."

Will Rangers 'properly arm' Martin to challenge Celtic?
How much money will Russell Martin have to spend on new signings this summer?Chief executive Patrick Stewart says a "decent amount" of the £20m investment promised by the club's new owners will be made available for Martin's transfer Grant, chief football writer for The Times in Scotland, told the BBC's Scottish Football podcast: "Rangers have to arm him to be able to deal with Celtic."That's going to be extremely difficult for the club because when you look through the squad there's so much work to do."There's so many questions about players that are already there, the defence almost has to be rebuilt. We don't know if the midfield is going to stick together or whether a couple of assets might be sold. There's question marks about up front."All of this has to be addressed and pretty quickly. So you're immediately applying pressure on Rangers."If Martin stumbles in the first couple of games and they're behind again immediately, it seems like the same old cycle, doesn't it?"The recruitment team has to get this right, they really have to arm him properly."While Martin's appointment has not been universally welcomed by the Rangers support, Grant said: "Critics are always going to be noisier than those who back him."It's an easier default position to just say, 'Oh I don't fancy this guy, he was rubbish at Southampton.'"I think he'll pleasantly surprise a lot of Rangers supporters. They will watch him and listen to him and think, 'Oh right, this guy's got something about him.'"

Man Utd odds SLASHED in Jamie Vardy next club market as Wrexham & Rangers trail
JAMIE VARDY is still on the lookout for his next challenge after quitting Leicester City. And judging by the sustained support with the bookmakers, a move to MANCHESTER UNITED is looking ever more likely by the day! 2 2 The 38-year-old has been linked with several clubs across Europe since he revealed he was quitting the Foxes. A club legend - described by Leicester as 'our greatest-ever player' - Vardy leaves having scored 200 goals in 500 appearances for the side. He also worked under 10 different managers in his 13 years at the King Power. In a lengthy statement, he closed it off by saying: "It's finally time to call it a day, which I'm devastated about it, but I think the timing it right." Vardy has been strongly linked with a move north of the border, with former boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic before more concrete claims of interest from Rangers, who have recently been taken over. A move to Serie A is the current frontrunner with BetVictor, priced at 9/4 to move to any club. But without doubt the market mover in the Vardy next club market is for Manchester United, who were reportedly interested at the end of the January window. Ruben Amorim is desperate for options up to, with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho on the way out and Rasmus Hojlund potentially exiting with them. Only Everton and the three, poor relegated sides scored less goals than United in the Premier League last season. They're trying to resolve that issue, having splurged over £60million on Matheus Cunha and in advanced talks with Bryan Mbeumo. So this move for Vardy on a free would be a much cheaper option to bolster the front line and likely be an attractive proposition for both parties. Such is the incredible nature of this market, Championship new boys Wrexham come next at 8/1 third favourites. The Hollywood-owned side were coined the 'obvious transfer choice of the century' for Vardy when he first revealed he was leaving Leicester but that seems to have cooled. A switch to Scotland, Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday are all also 8/1. The season may be over but a busy summer of transfer activity is only just beginning as clubs look to reshape their squads ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. Here is a round-up of the latest rumours swirling around Scottish football this Friday lunchtime ahead of the transfer window reopening on Monday, June 16... Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Celtic reject bid as €25m bar set Celtic have reportedly turned down a lowball offer from Fenerbahce for star forward Daizen Maeda. The Japanese international is attracting interest after a steller season where he netted 33 goals in 52 games for the Scottish champions, playing both on the wing and as the central striker following the January departure of Kyogo Furuhashi. Multiple reports in Turkey have claimed that Fenerbahce have identified the 27-year-old as the man they want to replace Allan Saint-Maximin, who will return to Saudi club Al Ahli following his loan move. It is claimed that Jose Mourinho's side have submitted an opening bid of €10m (£8.4m) which has been rejected out of hand by Celtic, who have set the bar at the €25m (£21m) for the PFA and Scottish Football Writers Player of the Year. It is also claimed that Tottenham are showing an interest in Maeda, although any offer is likely to depend on whether Ange Postecoglou remains in charge at the Premier League club. The ex-Celtic boss, who brought Maeda to Parkhead for just over £1m in 2022, is fighting to keep his job despite winning the Europa League last month. The 20-year-old left-back joins on a four-year deal from Bundesliga 2 side FC Schalke 04 for an undisclosed fee. 'I'm really happy to be here and so are my family, so I am ready to go,' he said. 'Now that everything is sorted, I can focus on pre-season, and I am going to work hard before training starts. It was nice to see all the fan celebrations after winning the cup. It motivates me to want to do it again as you can see how much they love Aberdeen. Obviously it's a dream to play in Europe, on that stage. It can be challenging but we are going to be ready as a team after a strong pre-season.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Gyamfi is a product of the youth academy at Schalke and although he never made a first-team appearance, he caught the eye during a recent loan spell with Dutch second tier side VVV-Venlo. Dons boss Jimmy Thelin added: 'Emmanuel is a player we have been monitoring for some time. He possesses all the attributes we are looking for in a modern full-back. He's dynamic and has a great work ethic. His development at Schalke and his recent loan spell demonstrates his potential and we believe this will be the environment in which he can thrive.' Robin Propper is on his way out of Rangers after less than a year at the club. | SNS Rangers exit agreed Rangers are set to cut their losses by sanctioning the sale of defender Robin Propper after less than a year with the club. The Ibrox club paid £2.5million to sign the 31-year-old from Dutch side FC Twente last summer but after an unconvincing debut season in Scotland he is set to return to his former side in a cut price deal. According to reports in the Netherlands, Rangers will only recoup half of the money spent on Propper with terms agreed on a £1.2m transfer. The centre-back remains highly regarded at FC Twente having previously captained the side prior to his move to Rangers. The departure of Propper and fellow defender Leon Balogun has freed up space for new head coach Russell Martin to bring in his own centre-halves as he looks to put his own stamp on the side ahead of the new season. The nine-time Scotland international was released by the Tannadice club at the end of the season following two years with the Tangerines. He played a major role in the club's Championship title win before helping them secure European football with a fourth-placed finish in the Premiership last term. Now Gallagher is back in the Championship aiming for the fourth promotion of his career after signing a one-year deal with relegated Ross County.
