A lineup that's been desperate for production — especially from the bottom of the order — finally got it Wednesday, as the Mets scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth of a 7-3 win over Atlanta.
The victory was just the Mets' second in their last 12 games, as they've fallen out of first place in the NL East and questions have been raised about just about every aspect of their roster.

But Juan Soto homered twice, Clay Holmes rebounded from perhaps his worst outing of the season last week in Atlanta to stifle the Braves on Wednesday and the offense took advantage of the youngest player in the majors, Atlanta right-hander Didier Fuentes, a 20-year-old making his second MLB start.
They hit the halfway point at 47-34 and knocked the Braves to five games under .500.

About the only thing that went wrong was right-hander Jonathan Pintaro couldn't finish the ninth and Edwin Díaz was forced to close it out.
The sizzling Soto got the Mets' five-run fourth going with a 413-foot leadoff homer to center to give them a one-run lead.

He added a second homer to start the eighth, his team-high 19th of the season.
After Soto tied the game in the fourth, Alonso was hit by a pitch and went to third on Jeff McNeil's double to left.

Jurickson Profar's Catch of the Year Blows MLB Fans' Minds In the top of the fourth inning, Agustin Ramirez, drove a ball to deep left field off Braves pitcher, Hurston Waldrep. Profar tracked the ball, and reached way beyond the left field wall to pull this one back for one of the greatest catches of the year. MLB fans rushed to social media to post their reactions, most of which have lost their minds over the incredible play. "Almost like he has lingering super powers," one user posted. 'Catch of the year' and it's literally the best catch I ever seen," another user posted. The Braves also took to social media, posting still shots of the unbelievable catch. "This is somehow better than Clarke catch," another fan said. "Profar makes the spectacular look routine and the routine look impossible!" another fan said. "INSANE ROBBERY WOWWWW," another MLB fan posted. Profar has faced a lot of scrutiny this season, after being suspended for 80 games by MLB for the use of a banned substance. Profar has played in just 36 games this season, contributing six home runs and three stolen bases while hitting .231. Profar's play was incredible, and will undoubtedly grace SportsCenter's Top-10 on Saturday, but the Braves still entered Saturday 19 games under .500, sitting in fourth place in the NL East. This game also included some history, as Jen Pawol became the first female to umpire a regular-season MLB game. Now, it appears that Verdugo — who, though healthy, has played only 56 big-league games this year and has been without a team since July 5 — may be on his way back to The Show one more time, even after his own hometown paper, the Tucson-based Arizona Daily Star, declared his career at an end. "Despite a decent 2024 campaign (at least in the outfield) with the Yankees in which he even hit a home run in the World Series, nobody seemed to want Alex Verdugo this past offseason," Miller wrote. "And there he sits once again, unsigned for over a month at this point, even as teams like the Guardians, Royals and Phillies could put just about any warm body with outfield experience to some use." At $138 million, Kansas City carries the 12th-lowest payroll in baseball, making Verdugo who could be acquired for the prorated remainder of his $1.5 million Braves contract — approximately $375,000 — a viable option for a late-season playoff push.
