Woman pistol-whipped after road dispute in Penang
GEORGE TOWN: A 41-year-old man was arrested for allegedly injuring a woman with a pistol grip on Jalan Kelawai on Sunday (June 1).
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the suspect was detained after turning himself in at the George Town police headquarters at around 9.30am on Tuesday (June 3).
"Police also seized a pistol, a magazine and a licence book for possessing weapons/bullets," he said in a statement today.
ACP Abdul Rozak said police received a report from a 28-year-old woman at 5.56pm on June 1, claiming she was assaulted with what was believed to be a pistol grip near Jalan Kelawai at 2.20am the same day.
He said the incident is believed to have been triggered by a road dispute while both the complainant and the suspect were driving through the area.
As a result of the altercation, the complainant sustained serious injuries to her nose and eye.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code Section 34 of Arms Act 1960.

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have received 101 reports related to coffee vending machine investment fraud cases, involving total losses amounting to RM6.7 million, from January to April this year. State police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said initial investigations found that the victims were enticed by detailed explanations and representations about the vending machine investment offered by the suspect, which allegedly promised high returns. He said those who were convinced by the scheme proceeded to join the investment programme and made payments into bank accounts provided by the suspect. 'The victims were unsure whether the investment was legitimate. Initially, they received some returns, but over time, the payments stopped,' he said in a statement today. The cases were being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Hussein said the investigation papers had been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office, which decided that no charges would be filed under fraud-related offences. In light of this, he advised the complainants to pursue civil action to contest any breach of the contract agreement signed with the investment company and to recover their investments. He also reminded the public to be cautious of investment schemes promising unrealistic returns, especially those promoted through financial apps or platforms not approved by Bank Negara Malaysia or the Securities Commission Malaysia. Kuantan boy reported missing found safe in relative's house
KUANTAN: A 13-year-old student who was reported missing on Sunday was found safe at his relative's house in Chukai, Terengganu. Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said police was informed by the family that the boy was seen at the house at about 7am yesterday. 'Police have conducted investigations and interviewed the boy's family members. 'We are conducting further investigations to find out how the student reached the location,' he told reporters after the Pahang police contingent monthly assembly. On Sunday, Kuantan OCPD Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu was reported to have said the teenager was reported missing after leaving home without the family's knowledge. It is believed that this was because he refused to return to his boarding school in Pekan. [UPDATED] Eight UMT students charged with assaulting fellow student causing serious injury
KUALA TERENGGANU: Eight Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) students pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court here today to a charge of causing grievous injuries to a fellow student last year. The accused, all male and aged between 21 and 23, made the plea after the charge was read by the court interpreter before Magistrate Iffah Nabihah Mohd Ishak. According to the charge, all eight students were alleged to have intentionally caused grievous hurt to the 21-year-old victim. They were charged with committing the offence at a college in UMT's Kuala Nerus branch between 1.30am and 5am on December 15 last year. The charge was framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction. The court set July 6 for mention and granted bail of RM5,000 to all the accused. Deputy public prosecutors Azizan Abdullah, Nur Nabihah Hanin Ayim, and Nur Aisyah Mohamad prosecuted the case. All the accused were represented by lawyers from the National Legal Aid Foundation. It was previously reported that police arrested 12 students from a public higher education institute in the state who were believed to be involved in a group assault at a residential college.
