Did Apple fire Jon Yongfook, designer behind Liquid Glass UI? Here's the truth behind viral claim

Claims about Apple firing a Jon Yongfook, allegedly the lead designer of the Liquid Glass UI unveiled at WWDC 2025, surfaced on social media on Monday. Yongfook, an influencer on social media, posted about being fired. However, now several social media users are saying that Yongfook never worked with Apple.
'I was fired by Apple today. Me and my design team have spent the last 18 months tirelessly testing different levels of gaussian blur on backgrounds when foreground elements are in focus. If you are looking for experts in the blur, glass liquid, grass or fur UI space, lmk,' Yongfook said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

His followers were quick to note that Yongfook never worked at Apple, and his tweet seemed satirical.
'Media has picked up this tweet and reported that Apple has fired their lead designer Jon Yong Fook for Liquid Glass design. Jon is an entrepreneur that runs SaaS products, and did not work at Apple's design. It's their in his bio Media did not even bother to check his bio...' one person tweeted.
Yongfook is a serial entrepreneur, not a documented Apple employee. He founded Bannerbear, a SaaS for automated image generation, and previously worked at Aviva. His website and LinkedIn focus on startups, with no mention of Apple.

Meta AI on WhatsApp to support image analysis like ChatGPT and Gemini for free

More than a year after WhatsApp introduced Meta AI, which allows users to interact with AI more intuitively, it's now stepping up its game. In a significant move towards deeper AI integration, the platform is reportedly working on a feature that will allow Meta AI to analyse user-shared images and documents. Based on the input, Meta AI will offer instant insights like verifying authenticity or describing visual content. What is this feature? In a recent post on X, WABetaInfo revealed that users will soon be able to forward images or files directly to Meta AI and ask questions about them. This functionality, reminiscent of what's available on ChatGPT (paid version) or Gemini, expands Meta AI's utility beyond just text prompts. But, what's the catch? WhatsApp plans to offer these features for free, potentially making high-end AI capabilities more accessible to millions. How does this feature impact users' privacy? While there have always been concerns about AI storing your private information and data, Meta clarifies that the AI can only access content that users explicitly share. However, the feature's usage terms have outlined a clause that states shared inputs may be used to improve its AI systems. This might lead to some hesitation among privacy-conscious users despite the feature's utility. Feature availability and accessibility The image analysis feature by Meta AI is currently being rolled out to select beta testers on both iOS and Android platforms. According to WABetaInfo, users on WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.17.10.78 and Android version 2.25.18.14 may be able to try it out, depending on their eligibility and update history. Some users might receive access by installing certain previous updates. Since the feature is still in the testing phase, a wider release is expected once Meta completes internal testing and gathers user feedback. What is the new AI tab? Alongside image analysis, WhatsApp is also gearing up to roll out a dedicated 'AI' tab. This feature will enable users to build their own custom AI chatbots without any coding. Through a guided, step-by-step interface, users will be able to create bots tailored for personal use or simple business functions. With these developments, Meta is clearly aiming to make AI more approachable, powerful, and personal, right from within the world's most widely used messaging app.

F1 movie: Apple unveils world's first haptic movie trailer for Joseph Kosinski's ‘F1'

Apple has launched a groundbreaking promotional feature for its upcoming racing film F1, introducing the world's first haptic-enabled movie trailer. The immersive trailer, which can be viewed on iPhones running iOS 18.4 via the Apple TV app, gives users a tactile experience of key moments from the film. The trailer uses the iPhone's Taptic Engine to synchronise vibrations with the on-screen action, allowing viewers to feel events like roaring engines, tire skids, and even subtle moments like the click of a seatbelt or a bouncing ball. It mirrors the multi-sensory effects of 4DX theaters but delivers the experience through a smartphone for the first time. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film is set for theatrical release on June 27 and will later be available on Apple TV. To access the haptic trailer, users must update their iPhones to iOS 18.4, open the Apple TV app, and select the specially marked F1 trailer. Viewers will feel dynamic feedback throughout the trailer such as acceleration bursts and tension-filled crashes. This marks a first in cinematic promotion, bringing haptic technology that's commonly used in gaming into the world of film.

Asian markets mixed as Wall Street rally pauses; US futures, oil dip; Hong Kong's Hang Seng drops 0.5%

Asian shares traded mixed on Thursday morning as Wall Street's recent rally lost steam and investors showed little reaction to the latest US-China trade talks. US futures and oil prices declined. The Japanese Nikkei 225 declined 0.5% to 38,213.20, whilst Hong Kong's Hang Seng decreased 0.5% to 24,234.80. While China's Shanghai Composite edged down 0.1% to 3,404.66. South Korea's Kospi advanced 0.8% to 2,929.94, and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose slightly by 0.1% to 8,604.50. Taiwan's Taiex dropped 0.8%. Earlier on Wednesday, US markets retreated with the S&P 500 falling 0.3% to 6,022.24, ending its three-day winning streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average remained virtually unchanged at 42,865.77, whilst the Nasdaq composite declined 0.5% to 3,400.30. The S&P 500 decreased by 16.57 points to 6,022.24, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reduced by 1.10 to 42,865.77, and the Nasdaq composite declined by 99.11 to 19,615.88. Big Tech stocks led the decline, with Apple dropping 1.9%. Trump on Tuesday (local time) announced China's agreement to supply rare-earth minerals and magnets to the United States, alongside provisions for Chinese students to attend US universities, pending final approval from both leaders. "President XI and I are going to work closely together to open up China to American Trade. This would be a great WIN for both countries!!!" Trump declared. Investors remain optimistic about a comprehensive trade agreement between the world's largest economies. Without such agreements, concerns persist about potential economic recession and inflation due to high tariffs. The S&P 500 currently stands 2% below its record. Tesla finished 0.1% higher despite volatility, recovering from previous losses following Elon Musk's deteriorating relationship with Trump. The 10-year Treasury yield decreased to 4.41% from 4.47%. Short-term yields showed larger declines, reflecting Federal Reserve rate expectations. In early Thursday trading, US benchmark crude oil decreased 33 cents to $67.82 per barrel, while Brent crude reduced by 37 cents to $69.40 per barrel. Currency markets saw the US dollar decrease to 143.89 Japanese yen from 144.60 yen, while the euro strengthened to $1.1520 from $1.1487.
