Wrexham won both games against Wycombe in promotion race
The teams met on the opening day of the League One campaign at The Racecourse and Wrexham won 3-2 but Wycombe then embarked on a fantastic run and remained in the hunt for a top-two finish along with the Reds during the run-in.
Sam Smith netted the only goal in the reverse fixture at Adams Park on March 15 as Wrexham secured another massive win and after Wycombe lost 1-0 at play-off hopefuls Leyton Orient on the penultimate weekend of the season, Parkinson's men beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 at home to secure an historic third successive promotion ahead of the final-day showdown at Lincoln City.
Runners-up Wrexham beat the Imps 2-0 to extend the unbeaten run to 10 games and finish with 92 points while Wycombe lost their last three matches to end up in fifth position, setting up a play-off semi-final clash with Charlton Athletic.
Wycombe ran out of steam in the final straight but Parkinson acknowledged the part that the Chairboys played in the battle for the second automatic promotion spot behind champions Birmingham City.
"The first game against Wycombe, no-one really thought they would be up there at that stage but we looked at them in pre-season and thought that they're going to be a force to be reckoned with," said the Reds' boss.
"To get the double over Wycombe has obviously been very pivotal."

It goes without saying that the victory over Charlton was one of Parkinson's stand out games in another memorable season.
Wrexham's destiny was in their own hands anyway but the Reds knew they would be guaranteed to go straight up to the Championship with a game to go if they beat the Addicks after nearest rivals Wycombe suffered a defeat at Orient in the early kick-off.
"Seeing the Wycombe result, it was 'come on lads, let's produce when it matters the most' and I am so proud of that," he said.
"Stood on the touchline at the end of the game, I said to Steve Parkin that it means a lot when the pressure is on and the lads produce, and they did."
Wrexham only lost one of their final 15 games, a 2-0 defeat at Reading on March 11, but the Reds bounced back immediately by beating Wycombe in that top of the table clash four days later.
"There's so many pivotal moments when when you look back," said Parkinson.
"Obviously defeat at Reading was disappointing but then going to Wycombe and winning was a brilliant response. That was a great day."
Only big-spending Birmingham finished above Wrexham while Stockport County, Charlton, Wycombe and Orient are contesting the play-offs as highly fancied teams such as Bolton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town missed out on a top-six finish, underlining how well the Reds fared after making the step up from League Two.
"The strength of the division this season and coming into it with a lot of players who hadn't played at the level - obviously some had - and seeing how we'd adapt to it, look at the teams we've left in our wake," added Parkinson.
"The teams who didn't even make the play-offs and teams like Charlton who are such a big club and have a lot of resources and will be in the play-offs.
"Take everything into consideration, to get into the Championship is amazing."

'It's something different'- Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson
Work has commenced on a brand-new stitch pitch at The Racecourse so it is ready for the start of the 2025-26 campaign when the Reds will compete in the Championship after finishing runners-up in League One this term to secure an historic third successive promotion. The club has invested more than £1 million on the playing surface, with undersoil heating being installed alongside new irrigation and drainage systems. In other work being carried out at the iconic north Wales stadium ahead of Wrexham's first season in the second tier for 43 years, when they will come up against the likes of Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town, the dugouts are being moved from one side of the pitch to the other. Parkinson, appointed manager in July 2021, is used to shouting instructions on the touchline in front of the Reds' substitutes and his backroom staff who sit at the front of the Wrexham Lager Stand but they will now be housed in the first few rows of the Macron Stand. On the move, the Reds' boss commented: "It is something different and I am cool about it. "I can get to know the fans on that side a bit more now!"

Wrexham: How many miles will fans travel in Championship?
Phil Parkinson's men finished runners-up in League One this season, securing an historic third successive promotion. It's been an amazing journey since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover at The Racecourse, with the Reds climbing from the National League to the second tier where they will ply their trade for the first time in 43 years when competitive football starts back in August. And fans will travel nearly 6,700 miles following Wrexham, with many taking in some new stadiums along the way. Supporters once again travelled in big numbers when the Reds finished second in League One this term, registering 92 points - a club record in the Football League - to clinch automatic promotion alongside champions Birmingham City. Having notched up 6,006 miles in the 23 away games in the third tier, fans will spend more time on the road in the Championship when 6,656 miles will be clocked up. It's still not as bad at the 7,794 miles when Wrexham were crowned National League champions following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, although the Red and White army only travelled 5,870 miles in the 2023-24 campaign when they saw their side finish runners-up in League Two. Stoke City, who play at the bet365 Stadium, is a mere 43 miles from The Racecourse and just an 86-mile round trip, making it the closest away game in 2025-26. That is one of nine matches under 100 miles away as Wrexham will also come up against Preston North End (70), Blackburn Rovers (73), West Bromwich Albion (75), Birmingham City (81), Derby County (82), Sheffield United (89), Sheffield Wednesday (88) and Coventry City (97). Trips to Leicester City (118), Swansea City (134), Hull City (148), Oxford United (160), Bristol City (166), Middlesbrough (166), Watford (177) and Queens Park Rangers (199) will be bearable when the Reds play in the second tier for the first time since the 1981-82 season. At the other end of the scale, six fixtures are over 200 miles away. The furthest journey is to Portsmouth when supporters will travel 239 miles to see James McClean and his team-mates in action at Fratton Park. That is closely followed by the 236 mile journey across country for the fixture at Norwich City, while Millwall (211), Southampton (221), Ipswich Town (225) and Charlton Athletic (230) are the other long treks as Wrexham come up against some teams they haven't faced for years. Supporters haven't got long to wait until they can start making travel arrangements, overnight stays or even plans for home games. The EFL has announced that next season's fixtures will be released on Thursday June 26 at 12pm. The Championship campaign kicks-off over the weekend of August 8-10. The scheduled 46 rounds of league matches will take place across 33 weekends, nine midweeks and four Bank Holidays in the second tier. Wrexham's final league match will be over the weekend of May 2-3. The Play-Offs will take place during the 2025 May Bank Holiday weekend. 2024-25 MILEAGE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP Birmingham City - 81 Blackburn Rovers - 73 Bristol City - 166 Charlton Athletic - 230 Coventry City - 97 Derby County - 82 Hull City - 148 Ipswich Town - 225 Leicester City - 118 Middlesbrough - 166 Millwall - 211 Norwich City - 236 Oxford United - 160 Portsmouth - 239 Preston North End - 70 Queens Park Rangers - 199 Sheffield United - 89 Sheffield Wednesday - 88 Southampton - 221 Stoke City - 43 Swansea City - 134 Watford - 177 West Bromwich Albion - 75 TOTAL MILEAGE - 3,328 x 2 = 6,656

The 33 year-old midfielder has now made more appearances for Ipswich than any other club during his playing the drop, Morsy thanked the "tremendous fans" for their support last season. It's a dream come true." Despite 165 games for Ipswich and a total of 574 career appearances under his belt, Morsy admitted to still learning from the opposition Town faced in the top flight."I'm always learning, trying to improve and when you see some of the top guys, the way they operate. There's definitely things to work on and to develop". "The summer is about making memories with your family. Relaxing is important, the season can be stressful, so it's good to ground yourself and re-connect."There's different expectation. The goal is to make an immediate return to the Premier League which is going to be really difficult. We have a good squad and a good manager and we'll have a good chance". Morsy said the continued support from Town fans would be key to their success next season. "The fans have been tremendous in terms of support.
