In the NIL era, players relish the opportunities they receive to make a profit off their name, but there is one deal that might trump any other.
That is the ability to play as yourself in a video game, or more specifically, EA Sports' latest installment, College Football 2026.
On Friday, incoming Colorado freshmen London Merritt and Mantrez Walker announced they'll be in the soon-to-be-released game. The edge rusher and linebacker confirmed that their name, image and likeness will be included in the game, marking another milestone in their young careers.
EA Sports brought back the popular college football franchise last year to widespread excitement from fans and players alike, eager to jump back into the game. New to this year's addition, all 136 Football Bowl Subdivision schools will be paid by EA Sports based on the frequency with which gamers play with their respective team. Real-life coaches are also being added to the game this year.
Merritt and Walker are both Georgia natives, with Merritt being a blue-chip prospect once committed to Ohio State. Merritt appears to have significant potential with the Buffs, who lost several key pieces to their defensive line, most notably star defensive end BJ Green.
Walker was a three-star prospect who has been with the Buffs for most of the offseason, but he projects as a likely depth piece entering his freshman season.

Two former Spartans fail to make the cut at the 2025 Rocket Classic

Two former Michigan State golfers had high hopes for their time at their hometown PGA Tour event, the Rocket Classic, but unfortunately, things did not go as planned. Ryan Brehm, a longtime PGA Tour veteran, and Ashton McCulloch, an amateur on the tour, both failed to make the cut at Detroit's PGA Tour event at the Detroit Golf Club. For Brehm, things were looking promising. After a one-under round on Thursday, he was four-under in his second round on Friday. A terrible finish ensued for Brehm, though, who ended the day even par. McCulloch had a week to forget. A six-over round on Thursday was parlayed with a two-over Friday round, making him eight-over on the tournament. Both former Spartans will not see the weekend in Detroit. Colorado Avalanche trade Charlie Coyle, Miles Wood to Columbus Blue Jackets ahead of 2025 NHL Draft night

The Colorado Avalanche have begun their summer offseason moves, as NHL trades had already begun ahead of free agency and the 2025 NHL Draft. Forwards Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood were traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets Friday in return for forward prospect Gavin Brindley and two draft selections, the hockey club announced. We have acquired forward Gavin Brindley, a third-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft and a conditional second-round choice in the 2027 NHL Draft from the Columbus Blue Jackets, in exchange for forwards Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood. — Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) June 27, 2025 Colorado acquired Colorado's third-round selection (77th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft. The team also received a conditional second-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft. Brindley, 20, is all but likely set to report to Avalanche AHL affiliate Colorado Eagles. He was previously a 2023 second-round draft choice for Columbus. He has logged one game in the NHL since being drafted. The movement of Coyle and Woods frees up cap space for the hockey club. Coyle has one year remaining on a $5.25 million contract. Woods already had term, and Columbus will now receive his four-year, $2.5 million contract. According to the Colorado Avalanche are projected to have $8.95 million in cap space since these transactions. The 2025 NHL Draft begins 5 p.m. MT Friday, June 27. The Avalanche were not expected to select in the first round pending any unforeseen trade ahead of the draft.

Michigan State hockey commit Mason West gets picked in first round of 2025 NHL Entry Draft

Michigan State hockey's newest commit came from Edina (MN) forward Mason West. The 2007-born player was a massive recruiting win for Adam Nightingale and his staff. West, coming off of his time at Edina High School will be heading to the USHL to play for the Fargo Force. Before then though, his prowess was recognized. The 6-foot-6 forward was selected at No. 29 in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night, going in the first round. West is not expected to join Michigan State until the 2026-27 season, but he is a prospect that Michigan State fans should be very excited for, and this NHL draft selection shows that.
