Malay Mail's Top 10 Picks: ‘Ejen Ali 2' dominates local box office, marking another major win for Malaysian animation
KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — It's not even surprising to see local animation Ejen Ali The Movie 2: Misi Satria, by WAU Animation and Primeworks Studios, taking over the local box office and claiming the No. 1 spot.
This sequel to the 2019 hit has been met with glowing reviews and praised for its strong storytelling — with some even calling it an upgrade over the first — marking yet another win for Malaysian animation.
While Ejen Ali 2 settles comfortably at the top, don't overlook Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the final instalment in the iconic film series. Or, if you're in the mood for some childhood nostalgia, the live-action Lilo & Stitch is currently showing in cinemas as well.
It's the final week of May, so why not wrap it up with a movie night, top streaming series, the latest hits on Spotify, or even a great book?
Check out Malay Mail's top picks of the week for a weekend filled with entertainment!

KL to JB ETS launches Aug 2025 — a new era for Singapore-Malaysia travel
After years of anticipation, and a few delays since construction first began back in 2017, you'll finally be able to hop aboard the Electric Train Service (ETS) from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru via the Gemas – JB Sentral route starting Aug 2025. Currently, the diesel-powered train journey between KL and JB takes a sluggish 7 hours. But thanks to this RM9.5 billion electrified double-tracking project, that travel time will be slashed to just 4 hours and 30 minutes. Along the way, expect stops at these stations: Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, and JB Sentral. The trains will cruise along at speeds of up to 140km/h. Malaysia has also received its first ETS 3 train set, and it's designed with passenger comfort in mind. With 312 seats, onboard WiFi, USB charging ports, and generous luggage space, you're set for a cosy journey. This development marks the final phase of the West Coast rail electrification project, first launched in 2011 under the administration of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. The government continues to prioritise this transformative project alongside the Johor Bahru – Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, which is scheduled to open by Jan 2027, according to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. About 3K passengers will travel between Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur every day once the service is up and running. Meanwhile, as RTS construction picks up steam, citizens should take note: the Jalan Johor Bahru–Endau road will be fully closed from 3 Jun 2025 to 31 Dec 2026. Key roads affected include Jalan Tun Abdul Razak (towards Danga Bay), Jalan Station, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, and Jalan Lingkaran Dalam. Drivers on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak 1 can reroute via the road in front of Masjid Habib Hassan Al-Attas, make a U-turn near Danga City Mall, and then turn left onto Jalan Lingkaran Dalam. Let's hope there will be no more delays this time so we can all enjoy travelling without having to buy a car! Singapore's CDL to Sell $2.1 Billion Office Complex to Cut Debt
City Developments Ltd. agreed to sell its majority stake in one of Singapore's most iconic office complexes, according to a person familiar with the matter, as the developer seeks to reduce debt and regain investor confidence after a family feud rocked the firm. CDL will sell its 50.1% stake in South Beach to minority owner IOI Properties Group Bhd, the person said, requesting not to be identified because the information is private. Malaysian developer IOI will have full ownership following the deal. The deal values the complex at about S$2.75 billion ($2.1 billion), the person said.

Global Funds Weigh Whether Indonesia Market Rebound Was Too Fast
Indonesia's financial markets have bounced back after a torrid few months, sparking a debate on whether the rally can last. RBC BlueBay says any inflows into Indonesian bonds will remain tactical until there's more clarity on how the government will fund its growth plans, while PT Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia warns that the recent rally in equities has run ahead of fundamentals. Indonesia's currency has climbed some 4% since hitting an all-time low in April, while sovereign notes recorded the biggest monthly inflow this year in May.
