NOIDA: The movement of heavy, medium, and light commercial goods vehicles from Gautam Budh Nagar into Delhi will be temporarily halted for two nights this week due to Independence Day security protocols, the district traffic police said on Monday. The restrictions will be in effect from 10pm on Tuesday (August 12) till the culmination of full dress rehearsal on August 13, (HT Archives)

'In view of the full dress rehearsal and celebrations, movement of heavy, medium, and light goods vehicles from Gautam Budh Nagar in Delhi will remain prohibited for security reasons. The restrictions will be enforced from Tuesday night till the rehearsal concludes on Wednesday (August 13), and again from 10pm on August 14 till the celebrations end on August 15.', said Lakhan Singh Yadav Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic).
For easy traffic flow, diversion plans have been made. Traffic will be diverted to Noida and Greater Noida, with alternative routes mapped via the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway. From Chilla and DND, vehicles will take U-turns towards the expressway, while those from Kalindi Kunj will be re-routed before the Yamuna underpass. Goods vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway or coming from Pari Chowk will also be diverted through Kasna and Sirsa before joining the peripheral expressway.
'The traffic restrictions are being implemented to ensure smooth movement and security during the Independence Day celebration. Restrictions have been imposed to prevent congestion on key approach roads and maintain a secure environment around the event venues. By diverting commercial traffic through the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway from all major entry points, we aim to keep Delhi's borders clear for security checks, emergency movement, and public convenience,' added DCP.
Traffic police have urged drivers and transport companies to plan routes in advance to avoid long detours and congestion on diversion routes. A dedicated helpline number (+91 9971009001) will be active for assistance during the restriction period.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the terror module recently planned to attack a liquor store in SBS Nagar and was further tasked with carrying out such attacks on Independence Day. Police recovered a hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol along with two live cartridges and two empty shells of .30 bore from their possession. "In a major breakthrough against #Pakistan's ISI-backed terror network, Counter Intelligence, #Jalandhar, in a joint operation with @SBSNagarPolice busts a #BKI terror network operated by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawashehria and Zeeshan Akhtar on the directions of Pak-based BKI operative Harwinder Rinda," Yadav said in a post on X. "Five operatives apprehended from Tonk & Jaipur districts of #Rajasthan and successfully averted further planned attacks," he said. According to the DGP, the accused were receiving direct instructions from foreign-based Zeeshan Akhtar and Babbar Khalsa International mastermind Mannu Agwan, who is working in close coordination with Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Rinda. One of the arrested accused was injured in an exchange of fire with police while being taken for recovery. He opened fire at police and sustained injuries in retaliatory action. The injured is undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, SBS Nagar, said Yadav. A case has been registered at Nawanshahr police station in SBS Nagar, he said.

According to police, five operatives were apprehended from Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan, successfully averting planned strikes. The group had allegedly conspired to attack a liquor store in SBS Nagar recently and had further instructions to carry out strikes on Independence Day. 'The arrested accused were receiving direct instructions from foreign-based Zeeshan Akhtar and BKI mastermind Mannu Agwan, who is working in close coordination with Pak-based BKI operative Harwinder Rinda," police said. During one recovery operation, an accused opened fire on police and sustained injuries in retaliatory action. He is currently admitted to Civil Hospital, SBS Nagar. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Monday said security measures at Delhi Metro stations and all airports under its cover in the country have been intensified and commuters should reach these facilities 'well in advance" as security checks may take time. The central force issued an 'important security advisory" over its social media handles saying these measures were being undertaken in view of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The CISF guards 69 civil airports across the country and the entire network of the Delhi Metro that runs across the National Capital Region including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. The force said passengers reaching these public facilities should arrive 'well in advance, as security checks may take longer than usual". It asked the commuters to 'stay safe, stay alert and travel responsibly".
