What is next for Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois?

Glasgow Times21-07-2025
Usyk sent Dubois to the canvas with a vicious left-handed punch titled Ivan to win back his IBF belt and add it to his WBA, WBC and WBO titles.
Here, the PA news agency takes a look at what next for Usyk and what this result means for the blue-riband division.
Where does this leave Dubois?
Briton's Dubois is back in familiar territory and required to rebuild his career. The 27-year-old has managed it twice before after his shock loss to Joe Joyce in 2020 and his first defeat to Usyk two years ago. Frank Warren confirmed his fighter will not return for at least six months and a domestic affair with the likes of Derek Chisora or Dillian Whyte seems most likely at this point.
So, who is next for Usyk?
Usyk proceeded to namecheck Chisora, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker in the ring immediately as potential opponents after Saturday's 24th victory of his undefeated professional career. The WBO has already implied that Usyk must next defend that belt against Parker. If Usyk, who has suggested his next fight would be his last, was to prefer a trilogy with Fury, he would have to vacate his WBO title and lose undisputed status again.
Is Fury ready for another shot at Usyk?

Fury wasted no time calling out Usyk after his victory as the 'Gypsy King' posted an Instagram video in the early hours of Sunday morning on a run. Fury retired after he lost to Usyk for a second time last December, but maintains he won those bouts and has already revealed he will return to the ring in 2026. Queensberry promoter Warren says Fury would love to fight Usyk at Wembley so it is all eyes on what the Ukrainian decides.
No Fury vs AJ then?

If Usyk does decide to fight Parker next, it would open the door for a long overdue Battle of Britain between Fury and Joshua. Whilst the duo no longer boast the status as world heavyweight champion, it is a contest that would draw huge interest and comfortably sell-out at Wembley. Joshua has been linked with a fight against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, but the best way to add to his legacy would be to take on compatriot Fury – even if it should have happened years earlier.
Best of the rest
One of the next eye-catching fights in the division will see highly-rated Moses Itauma do battle with journeyman Whyte on August 16. Itauma, a 20-year-old southpaw, has 10 knock-outs from 12 wins and is widely regarded as the future of heavyweight boxing. Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh called for Itauma to fight Usyk on Saturday night. It feels too early for Itauma, but he is an option for Usyk along with Germany's Agit Kabayel, who is WBC mandatory, and WBA Regular champion Kubrat Pulev.

England's hero Lionesses to ‘rake in £80m' after Euro 2025 triumph as two top stars tipped for I'm a Celeb and Strictly

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THEY battled their way to Euros glory in a dramatic penalty shootout - and now England's brilliant Lionesses are set to strike it rich off the pitch. Following their history-making victory against Spain, the likes of captain Leah Williamson and Chloe Kelly are now the nation's most in-demand stars, with the talented squad tipped to enjoy a deserved £80million windfall this year in money-spinning brand and TV deals. 12 Captain Leah Williamson has become a style icon Credit: Instagram/Leah Williamson 12 Chloe Kelly with her husband on holiday Credit: Instagram/chloe kelly 12 Alessia Russo celebrates winning Euro 2025 Credit: Getty Brand and culture expert Nick Ede thinks that success on the football field for England's women means they could be even more in demand than the men off it. Super sub Kelly, who coolly slotted home the crucial penalty in Sunday night's European championship final, has already said she'd love to appear on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. While winger Lauren James and Williamson are now in the same league as Lionel Messi, having starred in a Walkers crisps advert with the Argentinian superstar. Fashion brands, sportswear companies and glossy magazines are all desperate to be associated with the glamorous team who love to party. Nick tells The Sun: 'In many ways the Lionesses should be in more demand than the men, because they are winners. They have won the Euros twice. 'Their currency is going to be much much higher now. 'The advantage they have over the men is that they have an appeal across the genders. Men like them and women want to be them. 'They could make between £50million and £80million." But as with the men's footballers, not all of the first team will become TV stars like Gary Lineker or commercial powerhouses like David Beckham. Nick says: 'Collectively as Lionesses they can be making a lot of money, this is their time to shine. Inside Lionesses' boozy Euro 2025 celebrations as stars party with pizzas, beers and loved ones after win over Spain 'They could be the next Alex Scott, who is now a bona fide presenter on the One Show, or Jill Scott who was on I'm a Celebrity. But with every team you only get a few stand out stars.' Here we look at which Lionesses will be the big winners off the pitch. Chloe Kelly 12 Chloe Kelly has been tipped for Strictly Credit: Instagram/chloe kelly With her hop and skip run-up penalty technique and iconic goal celebrations, Chloe knows how to make an impression. The 27-year-old forward, who scored the winner in the 2023 final for England, always plays with a smile on her face. And she wants to bring that bubbly attitude to television as well by following former England midfielder Jill Scott onto ITV's I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. Chloe said: "I don't think I would do well like Jill. I think Jill is so bubbly and the challenges just didn't phase her. But I think I'd enjoy it - probably more so.'' The Arsenal player is already worth an estimated £2.5million, having signed a £1.5million deal with Land Rover. Nick says: 'I am sure Strictly Come Dancing and all the major reality shows will be eyeing Chloe. Out of all of them she seems to be the most famous.' She has modelled for Calvin Klein and worn Prada and Versace for photoshoots. Chloe has overcome adversity this year, having been frozen out of the Manchester City first team following an injury. She said her 'mental well-being' had suffered due to a 'character assassination' and switched to Arsenal on loan. Leah Williamson 12 Leah Williamson models for Calvin Klein Credit: Calvin Klein/Zachariah Mahrouche The England captain is believed to be the highest earning Lioness, having raked in £4million so far. The defender is being compared to the men's 1966 World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore. Fashion house Gucci took note of her glamorous appearance, making Leah a brand ambassador, while Calvin Klein asked the star to model their underwear. The 28-year-old Arsenal legend has also struck deals with Walkers crisps, Nike, Pepsi and Aston Martin. But she is a self-confessed 'introvert' who spent much of her free time at tournaments sleeping rather than socialising. That means it is unlikely we'll be seeing Leah on reality TV. Nick says: 'The big bucks are in longevity, getting a regular presenting show.' Lucy Bronze 12 Lucy at the FIFA Football Awards in 2024 Credit: Getty The veteran defender revealed that she played the whole of this summer's Euros with a leg fracture. That keep calm and carry on spirit is sure to make her a hit on challenge TV shows. Nick says: 'The injured leg story will push her to the forefront. Her heroics will propel her to get more jobs and more success. 'She is such a go-getter she'd be great for challenge shows like I'm a Celebrity and SAS: Who Dares Wins.' Lucy, 33, whose middle name is Tough, said: 'I've been in a lot of pain. If that's what it takes to play for England, that's what I'll do.' She earned an estimated £200,000 a year while playing at Spanish giants Barcelona and is worth around £3.5million. The Chelsea player led Sports Direct's Legacy Starts Here TV ads and has endorsed VISA, Spotify, and Rexona. Hannah Hampton 12 Hannah Hampton was England's penalty shoot-out hero Credit: Instagram/_hannahhampton Until this summer, the 24-year-old goalkeeper was not a household name. But Hannah's two saves in the penalty shootout against Spain in the Euros final has turned the Chelsea player into a hero of the nation. Many people told Hannah she wouldn't make it as a goalie because she had an eye condition that affects depth perception, but she proved them wrong. Hannah, who has over 300,000 Instagram followers, is yet to appear in any major adverts. That, though, is sure to change. She is likely to eclipse England's former number one Mary Earps, who won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2023. Nick says: 'Players like Hannah can be great role models and influence future generations.' Alessia Russo 12 Alessia Russo modelling for adidas x Gucci Credit: Inmstagram/Alessia Russo With Spain 1-0 ahead at half time in the final, England needed an equaliser and Alessia was the striker who scored the crucial goal. The tenacious 26-year-old star plays with a smile on her face and that has made her popular with advertisers. Her earnings in 2023, when she won the Euros with England, were believed to be £2million. Alessia has struck lucrative deals with Adidas, Gucci, PlayStation and Beats by Doctor Dre. The outgoing player appeared at the BAFTA TV Awards in May, is a regular at London Fashion Week and has appeared on the cover of magazines. She has a podcast with her England team mate Ella Toone called the Tooney & Russo show. Being an engaging talker is important. Nick says: 'There is a real trend for women being brand ambassadors. In tennis Emma Raducanu showed how much you can earn by being a winner. 'There are speaking opportunities that are lucrative, whether it is corporate or brand.' Lauren James 12 Lauren James and Leah Williamson in a Walkers Crisps ad Credit: LS Productions An injury curtailed Lauren's final, but the attacking player scored one of the goals of the tournament in the group stages. The 23-year-old Chelsea forward is eclipsing her brother Reece James, the defender who plays for England. Lauren appeared with Leah in the Walkers crisp advert which was often on TV during the commercial breaks. She has also made an advert for Pepsi, alongside David Beckham, worn Nike clothing and promoted Optimum Nutrition. With nearly 900,000 followers on Instagram she is clearly building up a recognition under the name J10, which is similar to Cristiano Ronaldo's CR7. It is only with off the field deals that Lauren will be able to overtake her brother financially. Lauren earns £350,000 a year at Chelsea, while Reece earns £250,000 a week for the same side. Nick says: 'They need to maximise on their success at the Euros because they are not as well paid as the men.' 12 Jill Scott was crowned Queen of the Jungle in 2022 Credit: Rex 12 Chloe Kelly advertising The Gym Kitchen Credit: Instagram/Chloe Kelly

Inside England Lioness Chloe Kelly's marriage to husband Scott Moore

Chloe Kelly is the woman of the hour at the moment after securing the Lionesses' win at Euro 2025. The England women's football team triumphed over Spain in a nail-biting final that saw Kelly, 27, score the winning goal during penalties. It marks the first time an England team has won a major trophy on foreign soil. Among the proud loved ones celebrating the team's monumental achievement is Kelly's husband, Scott Moore, who shared a touching message on his Instagram page. 'Speechless once again,' he wrote, along with two silver heart emoji. 'I'm so grateful to have you by my side,' Chloe added when she shared the post to her own Instagram Stories. Kelly maintains a fairly private life, but it is thought that she began dating the Everton groundsman after they met when she was playing for the team. Opening up on how they met, Kelly told Vogue: 'One day I held the door for him, and ever since that day he kept saying he was going to message me. 'When he did slide into my DMs, I didn't see it for ages, because it was in my requests folder, and then when I did see it I was like, 'Who is this?' But when I saw a few people that I knew had followed him, I realised, I must know him!' They then went on an unlikely first date to IKEA, and the rest is history. 'We got a little monkey and every time I see it, it reminds me of when we went to IKEA,' she told The Sun. Moore proposed in 2023 during a trip to Finland, popping the question under the Northern Lights. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Sharing a picture of the duo posing under the green skies and showing off her glittering engagement ring, Kelly wrote: 'The easiest YES. Here's to forever with you.' Speaking about the moment on the NearlyWeds Podcast, Kelly lightly ribbed Moore over what made her happier – the proposal, or her winning goal at the 2023 Euros. 'The wedding's not been yet, so I'm going to say the winning goal,' she teased. The couple tied the knot in 2024 after being together for five years in a picturesque ceremony at Merrydale Manor in Cheshire. She walked down the aisle in an incredible, intricate white lace dress with bridesmaid team-mates Ruby Mace and Steph Houghton. Their one-year wedding anniversary fell during the Euros, with Kelly admitting she hadn't had much time to celebrate among training and playing. 'I haven't even got a card, to be honest,' she said before the tournament began. 'I'm sure in the moment, I'll think of something and get my mum to sort it More Trending 'But no, we are just taking it each game as it comes, and we've got a huge game coming up, and we know that we need to be at our best for that, so not looking too far ahead. 'I'm sure Scott has, but I definitely haven't.' Moore has been supportive of Kelly's career, regularly attending her games as well as celebrating her achievements online. During their final Euro match, Kelly's shinpads bore an image of her and Moore kissing during their wedding, a touching tribute to their relationship. Got a story? Jahmai Simpson-Pusey to Celtic could prove major coup after what Pep Guardiola said about Man City prodigy

Brendan Rodgers is said to be lining up a loan swoop for the highly-rated England youth international Celtic are said to be lining up a loan move for Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. ‌ And the teenage star has already been tipped as the future of the Citizens' defence by Pep Guardiola. ‌ Highly-rated Simpson-Pusey, 19, burst onto the scene at the Etihad last season and immediately caught the eye. ‌ The England youth international made six first-team appearances - including two Champions League outings against Sporting Lisbon and Feyenoord. Simpson-Pusey was also crowned EPL 2 Player of the Year after captaining Man City's reserves to title glory, seeing off competition from Hoops new Bhoy Callum Osmand at Fulham. The youngster actually faced Celtic during City's pre-season tour of the USA in 2024, as Brendan Rodgers' side edged out 4-3 winners. He was then called upon by Guardiola throughout the campaign as the dethroned Premier League champions suffered an injury crisis. And the breakthrough talent seriously impressed his manager, with Guardiola hailing him as one for the future after his display in a 2-1 defeat at Brighton. All-conquering Guardiola said: 'The guy played really good, the young lad again, with this composure and duels and everything was good. It's not easy for him. ‌ 'Normally the young lads, they must come in with support from the team, with Rodri in front of them, right? With the best Kyle [Walker], and defenders, and now we support him. 'Now he's playing in a position that is difficult for him, but he performed unbelievably. We have a central defender to help us for the future, for the next years. I'm really pleased. Always there is good news when the situation goes bad, and this is one of them.' Guardiola revealed in December that he was tempted to throw in the rising star in the heat of a Manchester derby. He added: 'For example against (Manchester) United I thought to put Jahmai (Simpson-Pusey); he's played really good, but that pressure in that situation, it's a little bit…' Having offloaded Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki, Celtic are in the market for more defensive cover. ‌ At least one winger, midfielder and main striker are also on Rodgers' wishlist as the champions kick off their title defence this weekend.
