Lorraine Kelly slammed by viewers for 'appalling' response to Kim Woodburn death news

Daily Record13 hours ago

The Channel 4 How Clean is Your House? star passed away aged 83 after a short illness.
Lorraine Kelly has received criticism after she broke the news of the death of Kim Woodburn on her ITV show. The How Clean Is Your House? icon died on Monday, aged 83, it was announced today (Tuesday) leaving her husband of 46 years "heartbroken".
After returning from a commercial break, Lorraine paused the show to announce the sad news, telling viewers: "Some news just breaking in the last few minutes, Kim Woodburn has died at the age of 83. Famous, of course, for The How Clean is Your House? and her controversial time on Celebrity Big Brother."

The 65 year old then read out the statement from Kim's family and after concluding the statement, she said: "Right! It's ten past nine."

However, many fans watching at home weren't happy with the way the Scots star delivered the news. One said: "I'm actually shocked at the lack of empathy Lorraine showed announcing the death of Kim Woodburn. Appalling. Hope ITV see these comments."
Another agreed, saying: "Yeah, I thought the same. Couldn't wait to go onto the next segment of the show." A third shared: "A very mealy mouth announcement from Lorraine about the passing of Kim Woodburn." A fourth accused the presenter of being "very business like".
In a statement released by a spokesperson, Kim was described as an "incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person" by her devastated relatives, who were "so proud" of what she achieved in her career.
The statement read: "It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness.

"Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person. Her husband Peter is heartbroken at the loss of his soulmate.
"We are so proud of the amazing things Kim achieved in her life and career. We kindly ask that Kim's husband and close friends are given the time and privacy they need to grieve.

"We will not be releasing any further details."
The sad passing of Kim, who rose to fame on How Clean is Tour House? with Scots star Aggie MacKenzie, was discussed on This Morning, with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard paying tribute as they reflected on the day's headlines with journalists Alison Phillips and Nick Ferarri.

Cat said: "Sad news this morning, the news that Kim Woodburn died yesterday aged 83 after a short illness, she was one on her own wasn't she?
Alison replied: "She really was and it's terribly sad. Her and Aggie became the real double act of cleaning before cleaning influencers were a thing."

Ben then said to Nick: "There was a light, Nick, that burnt very brightly and very strongly at times with our Kim Woodburn."
Nick replied, likening Kim and Aggie to the Hairy Bikers: "Those two in a way were like almost like the female equivalent of the Hairy Bikers.
"They were so genuine, you could see the bond between them, the fact that they were so true shone through to the viewers. Very sad news."

Ben then added: "Condolences to her friends."
The death of the I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here 2009 star comes weeks after she was forced to cancel work commitments due to health concerns.
Kim, who also previously appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, had been engaging with fans by offering personal video messages for £25 each, in addition to her activity on the Cameo platform.
However, earlier in the month, she informed her followers with a message saying: "No more videos for now, my loves, I need to get better!"

Kim Woodburn's shove and harsh words to Aggie MacKenzie revealed: Truth about How Clean Is Your House fallout as TV star's 'deep pain' over abuse, violent husband and hateful mother revealed

Kim Woodburn didn't hold back. Her scouring judgments on just about everyone who dared cross her were caustic enough to strip the skin – 'verbal Vim', as one critic described them. This is Kim unleashing a tirade in the jungle on I'm A Celebrity in 2009, her victim the former glamour girl Katie Price: 'You're what I thought you'd be. You're a publicity-seeker. You live and die for publicity. You know full well you've got ten to 12 million people watching every night and you know, madam, you'll be all over the papers every day. Now stop it. Stop your nonsense.'

Sombre Aggie MacKenzie is seen for the first time since the death of co-star Kim Woodburn as she waits for a bus after branding CBB icon a 'tormented soul' following two-decade feud

Aggie MacKenzie has been pictured just hours after it was announced that her co-star Kim Woodburn had passed away at the age of 83. The How Clean Is Your House star, 69, cut a sombre figure as she waited for a bus in north London, after it was revealed that Kim had died following a short illness. Kim and Aggie worked together from 2003 to 2009 on the hit Channel 4 show but famously feuded behind the scenes. The presenter was alone as she headed to a nearby bus stop, after releasing a statement to the Mail in the wake of Kim's passing. She said: 'Kim was a tormented soul, but now she's finally at peace. 'We clashed often. Behind the fierce persona was deep pain and incredible strength. She survived because she had to. I hope she's resting now. She was an unforgettable woman.' Aggie previously accused Kim of being a bully, saying that she was so badly affected by her behaviour that she needed therapy. Speaking to the Mail in 2019, she explained: 'We were never friends. Far from it. Kim was such a big, damaging part of my life. I feel she almost destroyed me. I know that sounds extreme but she was this massive powerful figure.' Aggie continued: 'I was frightened of her. Everyone was. It's like any bully - they push and push and push. There were no boundaries, no limitations. 'It was as if Kim felt more entitled to the job, status and money than me. She was the 'main man' and the show could not go on without her. I was ordinary and dispensable. 'If there was a value in me, as far as she was concerned it was in our being so different. She thought she was the glamour-puss and I was the Harry Potter lookalike. 'When we did publicity, she'd say that to interviewers. Usually, they laughed along. I got completely sick of it - the same joke over and over.' Aggie revealed that things came to a head in January 2008, when the pair had such an explosive row that they then didn't share a civil word during the final two series of How Clean Is Your House? 'We were playing the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella in Brighton.' Aggie said, rolling her eyes. 'If there was a value in me, as far as she was concerned it was in our being so different. She thought she was the glamour-puss and I was the Harry Potter lookalike,' Aggie added 'We were playing the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella in Brighton.' Aggie said, rolling her eyes 'One day we were in the wings waiting to go on. We had our cue but she didn't move so I tapped her on the shoulder. We went on, did our thing and I led us off stage,' she said While the pair didn't get on, Aggie claimed that the 'friction' between them but that it helped make the show work better 'One day we were in the wings waiting to go on. We had our cue but she didn't move so I tapped her on the shoulder. We went on, did our thing and I led us off stage. 'She came behind me and pushed me really, really hard and I went flying. You know when someone pushes you and you're not expecting it? 'I lost my rag. I said: ''Don't you ever f****** push me again. How dare you?'' It was the first time I ever really went for her. I remember shouting at her: 'You're ugly on the outside and you're ugly on the inside.' Kim disputed this. According to Aggie, Kim told the cast members that it was Aggie who pushed her first. Aggie claimed that their feud was so toxic she ended up in therapy. 'I used to dream a lot about her — bad dreams. If my phone rang and it was Kim, my stomach would turn over. I'd think: 'What am I in for now?' It would always be abuse,' she shared. At the time, Kim told the Mail: 'I have never said anything derogatory about Aggie, and I am not going to start now. 'I am unclear where these false allegations have come from, but I wish her all the luck in the world.' Speaking to The Sun on Tuesday, Aggie said her time with Kim was 'one of the strangest, most intense working relationships' and it felt like 'walking a tightrope'. Detailing Kim's childhood trauma, she added: 'Kim was always battling something. She could be bright and brilliant one minute, then stormy and defensive the next. That wasn't entirely diva behaviour. That was also trauma. 'There were moments - even on set - when I'd catch a glimpse of that frightened, furious young toddler whose needs had never been met.' While the pair didn't get on, Aggie claimed that the 'friction' between them but that it helped make the show work better. Speaking on GB News in 2023, she said: 'I think we're chalk and cheese, and so different from each other, but I think that was one of the reasons why it worked.' 'Because of the friction there was between us, it created this energy and so we knew how to be in front of the camera. I mean, most of it was ad lib. We had an idea of the storyline, but we just kind of made it up as we went along.' Aggie continued: 'Kim is not the most straightforward person. I'm somebody who just likes to get on and Kim had a very difficult beginning, a difficult childhood and I think in her home, growing up, there was lots of conflict, many rows and she spent a lot of her childhood in a children's home. 'And I think for her, it's kind of normal to have conflict and I think that if things are calm and easy, I think she found that quite difficult. That's not me, I like it easy-peasy. There were lots of highs, and a few lows.' She also admitted that their show finished because their relationship had become too fractured and it was too hard for them to continue filming together. In recent weeks, Kim had cancelled her work commitments due to health concerns, confirming she would no longer be offering Cameo videos in a statement on Instagram on March 2 Kim's passing was announced on Tuesday. Her representative confirmed to MailOnline: 'It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness. 'Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person. Her husband Peter is heartbroken at the loss of his soulmate.' The statement continued: 'We are so proud of the amazing things Kim achieved in her life and career. 'We kindly ask that Kim's husband and close friends are given the time and privacy they need to grieve. We will not be releasing any further details.' Known as the 'Queen of Clean', Kim rose to fame as the co-host of Channel 4 's popular series How Clean is Your House? at the age of 60. Kim went on to become a household name on ITV chat shows This Morning and Loose Women. She also starred in a number of reality TV shows including a stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2009 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017. Her celebrity friends and fans were quick to pay tribute to the iconic presenter, taking to social media to thank Kim for making them laugh with her infectious humour. In recent weeks, Kim had cancelled her work commitments due to health concerns, with her husband believed to have been managing her Instagram in recent weeks. She had been offering personal video messages to her fans on content-sharing website Cameo for £25, but paused selling the content in March due to her health. 'We regret to tell you that Kim is unable to record any further videos for the foreseeable future, due to a health problem. Kim sends her love to you all,' a statement confirmed at the time. 'No more videos for now, my loves, I need to get better,' she wrote in an Instagram post shared on March 2. It became the final post Kim shared to her Instagram platform prior to her death, while she last featured in a video on her page shared on February 14 for Valentine's Day. In the clip, she promoted her Cameos as she said: 'Hello my loves. I hope you're all OK... and keeping well. Thanks so much for asking me to do these videos. They give me such a laugh. Thank you very much.' In response to her post, one fan said they hoped she was secretly filming another TV show, prompting her husband Peter to hit back and clarify again that she was unwell. 'Kim is very ill - idiot,' he commented via Kim's account. Kim also underwent surgery on her eye in February as she took a month-long absence from social media and Cameo at the time to recover. The TV star was born with virtually no sight in her right eye and restricted sight in the other, but only investigated her sight issues while working at a factory aged 19. Previously discussing her sight, Kim said she was lucky that How Clean Is Your House? was all spontaneous presenting because she struggles to read autocues. Back in April 2022, Kim also underwent surgery to replace the disc in her neck and shared photographs of herself in hospital at the time as she kept fans updated on her health. Kim was last seen publicly at the funeral of RuPaul's Drag Race star The Vivienne in Denbighshire, Wales, on January 27 alongside her husband Peter. Kim joined Ian 'H' Watkins, Jade Thirlwall, Aston Merrygold and Claire Sweeney in paying tribute to the drag queen, who died aged just 32 on January 5, 2025. Born on March 25, 1942, Kim grew up in Eastney, Hampshire, and left her family home at the age of 17 and moved to Liverpool. In 2017, she emotionally revealed she was physically and sexually abused by her own father from the age of two during a discussion on Loose Women. Kim detailed her 'hard' childhood spending time in foster homes with her siblings while her mother battled alcoholism, and her stepfather also beat her while under the influence. 'You can't shrug off all those years of neglect and brutality. I may put on a front but inside I'm angry - and I think I always will be,' she previously shared. Due to her 'neglect' growing up, Kim struggled at school because of her eyesight as she couldn't read the blackboard, and only got her blindness diagnosed as an adult. After leaving home Kim - whose full name is Patricia Mary Woodburn - worked as a social worker and then a live-in housekeeper and cleaner. She also nabbed work as a model and attended drama school in her 20s but didn't launch her TV career until the age of 60. Her charismatic personality and cleaning experience led to her being discovered by Channel 4 to host How Clean Is Your House? alongside Aggie. She was recruited through Channel 4 contacting a cleaning company looking for someone with experience who had a 'funny temperament, leading to her casting. How Clean Is Your House?, which ran for six seasons, became a huge hit and launched Kim into the public eye, garnering her huge numbers of loyal fans. Her on-screen success saw her go on to star in a number of reality TV shows, including I'm A Celebrity, Celebrity Come Dine With Me and Celebrity Big Brother. She first appeared as a regular panellist on Big Brother's spin-off series Bit on the Side in 2011 and then entered as a housemate in 2017's celebrity edition, where she came in third place. Her time in the Big Brother house went down in history as she became embroiled in a row with her housemates and had to be dragged away by security in the now-iconic moment. Kim also featured on Celebrity Come Dine With Me alongside Claire Sweeney, Darren Day and Tom O'Connor in March 2010. Entering the Australian jungle in 2009, Kim had another major success on I'm A Celebrity, finishing as runner-up on the show after winner Gino D'Acampo. Before her TV fame, Kim was married to first husband Kenneth Davies, but the couple divorced in 1975, before she wed her second husband Peter in 1979. The couple lived together in Nantwich, Cheshire, and Kim's infectious humour and unique personality shone through during her years on TV. Away from the screen, she kept fans up to date on her antics on Instagram, where she would often share videos showcasing her signature humour and promote her personalised Cameos. In recent years, Kim also became known for her very outspoken opinions on famous TV personalities, and she recently took aim at a number of under-fire stars. In February of this year, Kim criticised her I'm A Celebrity co-star Gino after it emerged that he was facing allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour. Gino was rocked by 'over 40' allegations of sexually inappropriate and intimidating behaviour over a 12-year period - claims which he denies, saying he finds them deeply distressing. In response to the allegations, Kim alleged that Gino made foul-mouthed outbursts which forced producers to march him out of camp, arguing that ITV 's 'good edit' led to his win. She also claimed Gino 'rubbed his penis through his shorts' as he struggled being away from his wife during his time in the camp. She told The Sun: 'He used to stand over a log and stroke his penis area over his shorts. He'd talk to his penis saying, 'I know you haven't had any sex, but when you get out of here, you will get so much'. 'He would say his penis was being deprived and neglected, and his wife would give him a good seeing to when he got home. We would all just turn away. 'It made me uncomfortable because it was vile and crude. It's not appropriate to do that in front of women. But Gino thinks he can do what he wants.' Kim additionally claimed the chef treated the crew 'like garbage' and after calling one crew member a 'f***ing bastard' and 'c***', refused to leave the set. She said: 'We had to stop filming while two men took him by the arm and forced him off the set back to the camp. They should have thrown him off the show. Ghastly it was.' Last year, Kim also branded Louis Walsh a 'nasty, two-faced' music mogul after he appeared on the newly-revived version of Celebrity Big Brother. Over the years, she also slammed Holly Willoughby and 'toxic' ITV as well as criticising the BBC for employing reality TV stars as presenters in unfiltered remarks. Kim famously heaped criticism on ITV after she claimed she was 'mocked' on Loose Women in an infamous episode back in August 2018. The TV personality memorably clashed with her former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Coleen Nolan on the daytime chat show. The pair had a high-profile falling out during their time in the Big Brother house and the conflict only worsened after their Loose Women appearance. After Kim felt she was 'bullied' by Coleen and her other housemates, the pair attempted an on-air reconciliation but Kim stormed out after a heated argument. In 2023, Kim reflected back on her experience and called for a 'full investigation' at ITV as she claimed some of their shows 'thrive on bullying and being unkind'. Kim argued she was 'exploited' by ITV, and claimed the channel should 'provide a better duty of care'. An ITV spokesperson told MailOnline at the time: 'As we said five years ago, Kim agreed to appear on the show on the understanding it was for a reconciliation with Coleen. 'Kim becoming upset was never the intention and the panel did endeavour to comfort her. Kim was offered and accepted support from ITV following the programme and Ofcom found the programme not to be in breach of the Broadcasting Code.' Kim also famously clashed with Phillip Schofield when she appeared on This Morning to discuss her stint on Celebrity Big Brother, where she branded him a 'big phoney'. After Phillip criticised her behaviour, Kim argued that he should have been 'neutral' when interviewing her, and the tense chat ended with Kim glaring at him in a tense stand-off.
