#SHOWBIZ: Saiful Apek: I was not arrested, police came to break up fight

KUALA LUMPUR: Comedian Saiful Apek has clarified that a viral photo depicting him with police officers was not an arrest, but rather the result of police intervention to quell an argument between him and another individual.
The 56-year-old Scenario member explained that the confrontation was triggered by the other person's disparaging remarks about his film, 6 Jilake, and its director, Aziz M. Osman.
"The person in the photo is indeed me, but the situation was not an arrest. The police were resolving a misunderstanding," Saiful Apek told BH Online.
"It may have appeared as if I was fighting, but I was not."
"My patience was tested when the individual insulted Abang Aziz and called the film 6 Jilake 'rubbish'.
"I could have tolerated insults directed at me, but this involved someone I consider a 'sifu'," he added.
Apek revealed that the incident occurred at a recent open house event hosted by the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, in Cheras.
"During the Inspector-General of Police's open house, this unknown individual provoked me with derogatory comments about 6 Jilake, which caused me to lose my composure," Apek said.
"I initially walked away to avoid causing a scene. However, the individual persisted, following me to the car park, where the police eventually intervened to separate us."
The incident surfaced on Tuesday when a portal reported the sighting of a comedian resembling Saiful Apek, wearing a pink shirt, being escorted by two police officers.
The location and cause of the incident were not immediately known.
Apek has since apologised to his family and friends who were affected by the controversy.
"I hope this statement clarifies the situation. I urge everyone to remain calm, especially my family and close friends who were alarmed by the reports of my arrest.
"My biggest concern was the reaction of my fellow Scenario members, particularly Azlee Jaafar, who, as you know, has a heart condition," he said.

Police probing Parliament scuffle that left officer injured

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said a report has been lodged regarding the incident which resulted in an officer requiring medical treatment. PETALING JAYA : Police are investigating a commotion during the submission of a memorandum and a draft bill outside Parliament which is said to have left a police officer injured today. Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said a report had been lodged regarding the incident. The police officer required medical treatment. Fadil said the case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. Section 353 provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, while Section 427 provides for a jail term of not less than a year and not more than five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. In a statement, Fadil referenced a video on TikTok which saw participants of a gathering 'provoking and forcefully breaching' police officers who were on duty during the event at Jalan Parlimen. He said police respected the public's right to express opinions and to assemble peacefully, and were committed to playing their role as a facilitator at such events. '(But) these rights should be exercised responsibly and prudently,' he said. 'Firm action will be taken against individuals or groups who instigate chaos or engage in excessive provocation.' Earlier today, FMT reported that more than 100 plantation workers from Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah and Johor marched from Taman Tugu in the capital to Parliament to submit a memorandum on housing and a draft bill making it compulsory for estates to provide homes for local plantation workers. Police blocked the group from gathering at Parliament's gates but later allowed the workers to hand over the documents to deputy law and institutional reform minister M Kulasegaran and opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan.

RM1,000 hit job: Segamat fire death linked to Singapore debt scam, say Johor police

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 13 — The death of a 72-year-old woman in a fire at Kampung Bukit Siput in Segamat on July 25 is believed to be linked to debts owed by her family to a Singapore-based debt scam syndicate. Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said investigations revealed that the victim's house was targeted by a man hired for RM1,000 by the syndicate to burn down the homes of borrowers who failed to settle their debts. The newly appointed state police chief said initial investigations by police and the Fire and Rescue Department found criminal elements at the scene. 'This prompted a special investigative team at the state police contingent level. 'Based on information and intelligence gathered over a week, investigators managed to arrest a 21-year-old local man and his 19-year-old girlfriend in Subang Jaya, Selangor. Both are believed to be the suspects,' he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today. Also present were senior officers involved in the investigation. Ab Rahaman said items seized from the suspects included a Perodua Bezza car, mobile phones, gloves, lighters, pieces of cloth and oil drums. 'Further investigations found that the suspect had been active in committing treacherous crimes involving fire around Johor and Selangor since July. 'The debt scam syndicate is believed to be based in Singapore, but the operations were carried out by hired locals. 'The borrower in this case is a family member of the victim, but the victim herself never received any threats,' he said. Ab Rahaman said police have filed four investigation papers under the Penal Code. These include Section 304B for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, Section 436 for committing mischief by fire, and Section 507 for criminal intimidation. He said a total of 13 charges will be brought against the male suspect — nine at the Segamat Magistrate's Court on Friday, and the remaining four at the Johor Bahru Court once proceedings in Segamat are completed. 'Although two people were arrested, only the male suspect will be charged. The female suspect was released on bail as a prosecution witness,' he said.

Police hunt suspect after premature baby boy found buried at Gua Musang PPR's playground

GUA MUSANG, Aug 13 — Police are tracking down a suspect linked to the discovery of a prematurely born baby boy buried at a playground here yesterday. Gua Musang police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the infant was found at a People's Housing Project (PPR) following a public tip-off at 10.30 pm. 'Initial investigations indicate the baby was born prematurely and is believed to have died several hours before being discovered,' he said in a statement today. The body, wrapped in a diaper and bearing traces of blood, was sent to the Forensic Unit at Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem. A teenager made the grim discovery after stepping on soft soil covering the baby's body. Sik urged anyone with information to contact the Gua Musang Police Station at 09-9121222 or the nearest police station. — Bernama
