Estonia Signals Readiness to Host NATO Nuclear-Capable Fighter Jets

Estonia has declared its readiness to host NATO aircraft capable of carrying nuclear warheads, in a move that reflects the Baltic nation's growing role in regional security amid rising tensions with Russia.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur confirmed in an interview with Postimees that his country is prepared to accommodate allied F-35 fighter jets equipped with dual-use nuclear capabilities. He noted that Estonia has previously hosted F-35s and that similar deployments will resume shortly as part of NATO's airspace defense mission.
Pevkur emphasized that Estonia's stance is consistent regardless of the aircraft's country of origin.
"If some of the allied jets can carry tactical nuclear weapons, that does not alter our position," he stated, reaffirming Estonia's willingness to support NATO defense efforts.
The statement comes as
NATO
bolsters its airpower across Eastern Europe. Earlier this month, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced plans for alliance members to procure 700 F-35s from the United States over the next four years—a significant investment in next-generation air defense.
On June 24, the United Kingdom announced its intention to purchase 12 additional F-35A fighter jets and join NATO's nuclear-sharing program, reinforcing the alliance's strategic deterrence posture.
Estonia, a NATO member since 2004, shares a border with Russia and has consistently advocated for a robust allied military presence in the region. Hosting nuclear-capable jets signals a firm commitment to NATO deterrence strategy and collective defense.

The areas of Jabalia al-Balad in northern Gaza and the eastern parts of Khan Younis have become the epicenters of intense fighting in recent weeks, witnessing heavy bombardments and ongoing ground incursions. The Israeli army has reportedly deployed explosive-laden robots in Jabalia town, sending them into densely populated areas at short intervals as part of complex raid operations. Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes have carried out severe airstrikes on civilian homes, forcing residents to flee their houses and move westward toward Gaza City, after receiving repeated evacuation warnings through direct phone calls from Israeli forces. In Khan Younis, particularly in the Ma'an and Sheikh Nasser neighborhoods, massive explosions have been reported due to intense artillery shelling. The Israeli ground invasion is ongoing in the eastern towns of the province. Nearly all these areas have suffered systematic bombardment and destruction, with estimates indicating that more than 90% of eastern Khan Younis has been almost completely demolished. Areas such as Baten Al-Sameen are currently under further bombardment and bulldozing operations.
