‘One Road, One Day' plan secures approval
Municipal Corporation of Delhi
's One Road, One Day scheme received the standing committee's approval on Wednesday. Under the plan, one major road in each zone of MCD will undergo a complete makeover every day.
The works will include road repair, cleaning and improvement of footpaths, repair of signage, restoration of streetlights, removal of illegal encroachments, pruning of trees and beautification efforts.
Standing committee chairperson Satya Sharma said the implementation would begin on Sept 1, so that changes could be visible before the anniversary of
Swachh Bharat Mission
on Oct 2. "This initiative will not only improve Delhi's image but also bring relief for citizens.
In the meeting, I asked councillors to prepare a list of roads they wanted to be taken up. The list can include PWD roads too," said Sharma.
The committee also heard the councillors' complaints regarding the operation of meat shops selling it in cooked form near religious places, prompting Sharma to direct officials that no meat shop should operate within a 100-metre radius of schools and religious places. "Shops running illegally or without valid licences must be sealed with immediate effect," Sharma said.

Vasant Kunj councillor Jag Mohan Mehlawat questioned MCD about hundreds of e-vehicles lying unutilised in the basement of Civic Centre for years. "If these vehicles were assigned to officials, why aren't they utilising them, considering crores of rupees were spent on their procurement," he asked.
Mehlawat also pointed out the use of plastic, including at Civic Centre, and the ineffective implementation of drives to ban single-use plastic.

Rs 697cr disbursed to over 34.85L farmers in state under PM-Kisan
Bhubaneswar: A total of Rs 697 crore was disbursed to over 34.85 lakh farmers in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on Saturday. The state-level programme, held at ICAR-CIFA on the city's outskirts was attended by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferring Rs 20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country from Varanasi. Under the scheme, Rs 2,000 each was transferred directly to the bank accounts of farmers. Majhi said, "It is our govt's commitment to ensure the inclusion of all eligible beneficiaries under the scheme. No eligible farmer in the state should be left out," he said, adding that saturation drives are underway in all blocks. He emphasised the govt's pro-farmer approach, highlighting that over 50 lakh farmers are also receiving Rs 4,000 annually under the CM-Kisan scheme. Together with PM-Kisan, eligible farmers are receiving a total of Rs 10,000 per year, he added. Calling on farmers to diversify, Majhi asked them to practice fisheries and animal husbandry to boost income. "Your income will not just double but multiply many times," he said. He urged farmers to take up oilseed cultivation and adopt organic methods for better soil health and sustainable farming. Tight security at CM, dy CMs residences
Bhubaneswar: Security was tightened near the residences of chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, deputy chief ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida to prevent any law and order situation arising out of protests following the death of Puri burn victim. The high-profile quarters in the city saw heavy deployment of police personnel. Public movement was restricted in certain stretches to stop assembling of a large number of people. Police sealed the road from AG Square to Governor's House in the city. Security personnel were also deployed near the house of the burn victim in Puri district, anticipating violent protest.
