Padayatra inspired by Bharat Jodo yatra: Mahesh Goud
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud began his 'Janahita padayatra' from Parigi on Thursday. 'Congress has always been known for meeting people directly,' he said citing the Bharat Jodo yatra led by Rahul Gandhi earlier.
'We walk to understand people, not for media headlines,' he said, making it clear that the padayatra was in accordance with All India Congress Committee (AICC) directives, intending to gather feedback on existing welfare schemes and understand what more people desire.
Mr. Goud claimed that the Congress government, despite inheriting a debt-ridden State from the previous BRS regime, was successfully managing both welfare and development.
Targeting BRS, he said that former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao buried Telangana under debt, and Congress was now forced to pay huge interest on loans, with no substantial development seen with the borrowed money. Thanks to the initiatives of the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government, investments worth ₹1.80 lakh crore have come to the State, he said.
Highlighting the key achievements since the Congress took charge, he referred to 65,000 jobs filled and 35,000 more to be announced soon, Indiramma houses, free bus travel for women, and fine rice through ration shops.
BC quota
Hitting out at BJP and BRS, Mr. Goud questioned their sincerity on BC reservations. 'BJP leaders make grand declarations about supporting 42% BC reservation, but don't join the government's protests in Delhi on August 5, 6, and 7, to fight for legal recognition.'
Mr. Goud added that BRS MLC K. Kavitha has nothing to do with BC reservations and asked where was her committment when BRS was in power.
AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan said that Congress was dedicated to Ambedkar and Phule's vision of social justice. 'Rahul Gandhi's padayatra was never about politics. It was about listening to the people. Our government in Telangana acted immediately on Rahul's advice,' she said, and appealed to all the progressive forces to join the fight for BC rights in Delhi and make it a national priority.
Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Konda Surekha and Parigi MLA T. Rammohan Reddy also joined him.

He had stated, 'The people of this country will never accept a lying BJP leadership drunk with power… They will accept a man accused of murder as BJP President, but the same won't be tolerated in Congress.' A BJP worker, Pratap Kumar, filed a complaint in Chaibasa's Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in July 2018, prompting the court to take cognizance in February 2022. Summons were issued to Gandhi, followed by a bailable warrant after he failed to appear. With his continued absence, a non-bailable warrant was eventually issued in May 2025. The case highlights the ongoing political tensions as Gandhi faces judicial proceedings over his remarks.
