Breathtaking new film 'that needs to be seen' quietly added to Netflix
With surprisingly little fanfare after the keen attention on previous other Netflix Friday film releases including highly anticipated sequel Happy Gilmore 2 and rom-com obsession My Oxford Year, Night Always Comes has arrived.
The movie, starring Fantastic Four actress Vanessa Kirby, is based on the best-selling novel by Willy Vlautin and follows Kirby's former sex worker Lynette, a desperate woman who risks everything to try and raise $25,000 (£ 18,432) to secure the house that represents a future for her family.
The official synopsis adds: 'On a frantic a dangerous odyssey through a single night, Lynette is forced to confront her dark past in order to finally break free.'
Directed by Benjamin Caron – who previously directed Kirby in her Bafta-winning role as Princess Margaret in The Crown – Night Always Comes also includes Jennifer Jason Lee as Lynette's chaotic mother, The Peanut Butter Falcon's Zack Gottsagen as her brother, Julia Fox, Lioness star Michael Kelly and Eli Roth among its cast.

Caron has cited the Safdie brothers' Uncut Gems and Good Time as an influence on his film's 'breakneck momentum' according to The Guardian.
Fans have expressed their excitement over watching the film this evening, with Merlin commenting on X of Kirby's performance: 'Back with a bang.'
'High stakes and Vanessa Kirby? Count me in,' added another fan.
'If the trailer has me stressed, I can't imagine the full movie,' admitted @RolandNorbertB.
With reviews just starting to trickle in on its first day available on Netflix, Night Always Comes currently sits on a fresh score of 60% according to critical reactions on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
While that might be on the lower side, there are only 15 reviews uploaded there at the time of publication, which is too few for a proper consensus, and no fan reactions as of yet.
'Vanessa Kirby commands the screen in a harrowing spiral of bad choices, delivering a performance as riveting as the story is nightmarish,' praised critic Joseph Robinson of Night Always Comes, while CBR admired Oscar nominee Kirby's 'powerhouse performance'.
Heaven of Horror's Karina Adelgaard went further, sharing: 'Vanessa Kirby delivers a portrayal that is nuanced, heartbreaking, intense, and absolutely breathtaking.'
Meanwhile, Collider insisted Night Always Comes was 'a film that needs to be seen'.
'A decent ticking-clock thriller that relies on its amusingly sleazy underworld and a barrage of strong performances to carry its occasionally flimsy and on-the-nose storytelling,' wrote Film Feeder's Jack Martin, while The Hollywood Reporter observed: 'Netflix's Night Always Comes is more compelling than the average original streaming movie even if it could use an extra shot of emotional power.'
Critic Ben Sears also highlighted the lack of publicity for Netflix's latest film, noting that it 'rises above' most of the streamer's other original movies and 'deserves more than being unceremoniously dumped on the platform'. More Trending
Others weren't quite as convinced though, with IndieWire's Kate Erbland penning: 'Handsomely made but tediously plotted, Kirby is more than deserving of this kind of meaty, she's-in-every-frame role, but Night Always Comes sunsets long before we get there.'
Other new releases this week included controversial adult animation Fixed, which has shocked viewers with its explicit scenes and 'raunchy dog' niche genre, while fans globally are also still lapping up pop culture sensation KPop Demon Hunters.
This film recently catapulted into the most-watched list of films ever on Netflix, claiming second place with 184.6million views after just eight weeks on the platform.
Night Always Comes is streaming exclusively on Netflix now.

TV fans brand thought-provoking drama 'the most underrated show on Netflix'
One of the most 'gripping' Netflix miniseries of all time has been described as 'incredibly underrated' by fans. With a plethora of options to watch on streaming platforms, it can often feel quite frustrating when a fantastic series gets buried beneath other options. But following a viewer discussion on Reddit, Netflix fans seem determined to spotlight Unbelievable as one of the most 'thought-provoking' and 'heartbreaking' shows ever. Starring Last of Us actress Kaitlyn Dever, Severance's Merritt Wever and Toni Collette, the eight-part drama explores the difficulties women face in reporting cases of rape. Charting the real life story of Marie Adler (Dever), the young woman reports being raped, only to face intense scrutiny and disbelief from police authorities. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Three years after her initial report, detectives Karen Duvall (Wever) and Grace Rasmussen (Collette) then investigate a series of similar attacks and uncover a pattern of deception linking back to Adler. Taking to Reddit, Theoretical_Phys-Ed said: 'Absolutely incredible show with incredible acting. I've watched it multiple times, even though it's a tough watch.' Writing on Google, Emily Lee added: 'I loved every second of this show for several reasons. 'First can we just say the casting was brilliant! Was such a JOY watching such strong, intelligent, kind, driven women all in one show telling a story so many women can relate to living in this world as women. A Metro reporter reviewed the series when it came out in 2019… From Ava Duvernay's harrowing drama When They See Us about the Central Park Five, to Making a Murderer and Mindhunter, Netflix has become known for bringing powerful true crime stories to our screens and seeking to raise awareness of the previously voiceless. The latest in this genre, Unbelievable, turns away from murder and focuses instead on sexual assault, using one real life story to show the ways in which rape victims are dehumanised beyond their assaults and into the way they are treated by the police. Dark, harrowing and an incredibly important watch, the eight part series shows the right (and wrong) ways of treating sexual assault victims in a story that is vital to hear in 2019. 'It really told the story, struggle and trauma of what it can be like for so many of us existing in a 'man's world'. I also loved along with strong feminine representation the body diversity as well!' Anbu V also called it a 'definite watch', saying: 'It is based on a true events. Unbelievable miniseries. 'Just excellent from start to end. It was perfectly crafted, acted and written. It transitions perfectly between two story lines never feeling like you are getting cut off too soon. The message is one that needs to be heard.' Saiprasad Chavan implored viewers to 'watch it for the extremely well-written plot covering minutest of the details complemented by some ground breaking performance by the entire cast'. Very strong and empowering yet emotional at certain points.' Meanwhile, Baba Lalz wrote: 'I am so deeply touched by what I have seen. So far, I haven't seen anything that has had such a profound impact on me. Extremely thought-provoking.' More Trending This comes after Netflix fans 'teared up' after a show, which was watched 72million times, confirmed its third season before the second is even out. The series, One Piece, is a live-action adaptation of the popular anime and boasted a hugely successful first season, becoming the third most-watched TV show of 2023 overall. Now, as the trailer for the second season, which stars Inaki Godoy and Emily Rudd, has dropped, it has been confirmed that it will be returning in 2026, three years after it initially came out. WWE banned 'wild' request from top stars over major safety concerns
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video WWE superstars Jade Cargill and Naomi wanted to take things to another level in their No Holds Barred Match. The real life friends culminated their bitter on-screen rivalry with a brutal weapon-filled bout at Evolution last month with Bianca Belair as the special guest referee. Speaking exclusively to Metro before WWE's upcoming Road To Clash in Paris tour of Europe, Jade admitted some of their suggestions for the match were rejected by bosses. 'There was so much we wanted to use that was asked,' she laughed. 'We wanted to use mace, that was going to be tough. And then we wanted to use razors, and that was going to be tough, but I welcome it!' However, not surprisingly there were some safety concerns when it came to the idea of spraying mace at a live event. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. 'I wish we were able to use the mace. [But] we gotta think about the crowd, we don't want anybody in the crowd to be maced, because mace goes so far,' she added. 'That would've been wild! The whole first front row would have been lit with mace!' I pointed out us at the Metro would've loved the headlines made from that level of drama, and Jade laughed and insisted 'we don't need that'. Jade and Naomi, who is currently out of action for an undisclosed reason, also 'wanted to go into the crowd', which is something the women of WWE seldom get to do. 'I love interacting with the crowd,' she smiled. 'One, you get your money's worth. But two, it's that moment that people bring back with them, and they forever talk about it.' Jade is hoping to make more memories when WWE kicks off its return to Europe next week, as the tour culminates with SmackDown in Lyon, France, as well as Clash In Paris and Raw in the City of Love. 'I think it was the Lyon crowd that really started that whole European craziness and fans going wild,' she said. 'I couldn't hear anything. You just lost the noise,' she recalled, admitting it was her 'first time experiencing such a crowd' – but it's an environment she thrives in. She added: 'The louder the crowd, the bigger the crowd, the more I come alive.' That proved to be the case earlier this year when Jade returned from injury at Elimination Chamber to attack Naomi, revealing the latter as the mystery attacker after months of build up. She still 'gets goosebumps talking about it', as the wrestling star reflected on the incredible reaction that night. 'I didn't know what the Canadian crowd was going to the reaction was going to be, because Naomi is so loved,' she explained. 'I know a lot of people are waiting for, 'What's happening? When is she coming back? Who's the person who did it?' So I think the whole twist from me going from Liv and then attacking Naomi was jaw dropping.' Jade has also had some embarrassing moments in the ring, including a particularly mortifying one just over a year ago when she slipped off the top rope at Clash At The Castle in Glasgow. 'I've never failed in wrestling, was when I got on that top rope and I had failed,' she said after laughing with her head in her hands. 'Everybody backstage was comforting me, and I remember people were showing me their mishaps. I'm like, 'Yeah, but you gotta understand, it's my first one. It was on TV!' Oh my gosh. 'And everybody's like, 'Jade, look, let me show you my time. This is mine and this is mine. You just have a target on your back'. But that was my most embarrassing moment.' Jade acknowledge that you've 'gotta make mistakes' in wrestling, but she is always looking to be 'perfect' in the ring. 'It's how you turn around and you make that story from that mistake, and how you come out on top with these mistakes,' she pointed out. She'll be hoping for a much smoother ride in the UK and Europe, with her and the rest of the roster buzzing to get back everywhere from Manchester and Dublin to Lyon and Paris. More Trending 'Europe is just an electric crowd. I don't think anything's like it. If anything, I feel like they're all competing with one another,' she laughed. 'One's like crazy, and the other is like, 'Okay, watch this. We're going to be better! It's great, and it shows us exactly what we're here for.' WWE returns to the UK & Ireland this August for the Road to Clash in Paris Tour – featuring a show in Manchester August 26, SmackDown in Dublin on August 22, and Raw in Birmingham on August 25.
