Gun-related incident prompted Mountain Avenue closure: Winnipeg police
One person is in custody following an incident that prompted the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) to shut down parts of Mountain Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said officers from the North District and tactical team responded to a gun-related call in the 400 block of Mountain Avenue around 2:45 p.m.
Cellphone footage shared with CTV News showed several WPS units at the scene including the force's armoured response vehicle and a drone unit.
WPS said the guns and gangs unit will follow up on the case.
No other details were provided.

Waterloo says 'high likelihood' unapproved LiveBarn streams were active since May
The City of Waterloo says there is a "high likelihood" that unscheduled LiveBarn streams at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex (WMRC) ran from May 1 to July 23. City staff were first made aware of the issue on July 23, when it was discovered that a LiveBarn camera meant for streaming minor hockey games was active outside scheduled times, livestreaming footage of children taking part in summer camp activities within view of the camera. A release from the city on Wednesday says the stream is only available to subscribers but, according to LiveBarn, none of the footage was downloaded or shared. The city says the WMRC was the only facility affected in Waterloo. It says other groups, outside of children's summer camps, may have been recorded during the extended period, too. The city says it has contacted all relevant renters of the space and the guardians of campers who may have been impacted. LiveBarn cameras remain offline in all Waterloo arenas while the city works with the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. LiveBarn confirms unauthorized livestreaming A LiveBarn spokesperson confirmed livestreaming cameras filmed summer camp programs at: The Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex in Waterloo. Hespeler Arena and Dickson Arena in Cambridge. The Lions Arena and Grand River Arena in Kitchener. The City of Waterloo says according to its contract with LiveBarn, the livestreaming company is responsible for any information recorded through the camera. "The agreement states that LiveBarn has all responsibility for the cameras and associated equipment, including the operation and use, and signage," the city said in an emailed statement sent to CBC last month. The Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner has been notified of the livestreaming issue. "We are in the early stages of gathering information to determine next steps and cannot share additional details at this time. We can follow up with you when there are further developments," said an emailed statement from the privacy commissioner's office to CBC in July.

Calgary police search for missing man last seen in Rundle
Calgary police are working to locate a man reported missing from the community of Rundle. Police say Peter, 77, was last seen leaving a home in the 6400 block of Rundlehorn Drive N.E. at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Investigators believe that after, he may have been at the Scotiabank in the 2200 block of 68 Street N.E. Peter suffers from a medical condition, and police say his family is concerned for his well-being. He is described as 5'6' tall (168 cm) and 140 pounds (64 kg) with grey hair and a grey beard. When he was last seen, Peter was wearing a beige fishing hat, a black and blue checkered shirt and light-blue pants. Anyone with information on Peter's whereabouts is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers. NOTE: The Calgary Police Service announced last year it would no longer be sharing the last names of those who are reported missing – or sharing details of whether any of those individuals are located deceased – as a standard practice moving forward.

RCMP searching for suspect in fatal shooting
Frank La Forge is wanted by RCMP in connection to a fatal shooting. Uploaded on Aug. 6, 2025. (RCMP) Manitoba RCMP is searching for a suspect in relation to a targeted incident that left a woman dead and a man in serious condition. On July 28 at approximately 2:45 a.m., Yellowhead RCMP received a report of a possible shooting at a residence on Keeseekoowenin First Nation, south of Riding Mountain National Park. Officers found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds and, along with Emergency Medical Services, performed CPR on a 33-year-old woman who was suffering from a serious injury. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A 26-year-old man was also treated on the scene and transported to hospital by STARS in serious condition. He has since been released. Frank La Forge, 52, from Keeseekoowenin, is wanted for first-degree murder and attempted murder, according to RCMP. La Forge is described as five-foot-eight and weighing approximately 150 pounds with brown eyes and a bald head. RCMP said he should not be approached and is asking for people to call 911 if he is seen. La Forge is believed to be in the Yellowhead area of the province and has connections to Kamsack and Yorkton in Saskatchewan. The investigation remains ongoing.
