'Excited to see what Frimpong could do'

BBC News14-05-2025

With the imminent departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong has emerged as a Liverpool target this summer.Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside, Liverpool fan and author Steven Scragg said he believes the 24-year-old could provide healthy competition for Conor Bradley:"He's one of the names that has been mentioned for some time now," he said, "and I think we will need a new right-back. "In Bradley, we have a magnificent player but there is a big step up to be made. He's started five or six league games this season so to go from that, to starting 30-plus is a hell of a chasm to bridge and we will need someone in there with him."In Frimpong, we are looking at a player who is more similar to Bradley than he is to Trent Alexander-Arnold. He's not going to be spraying passes - he'll be an attacking right-back in a more traditional sense."It means Liverpool will be playing in a different manner next season. Somebody will have to plug the gap of being the man to spray those passes around but we do have players that can do that."I'm pleased with the player we are looking at. I'm excited to see what he can do should this transfer go through and how Bradley would step up to the competition for the position."Listen to the full clip here

World's most valuable players revealed as Jude Bellingham leapfrogs Erling Haaland… but lags behind Lamine Yamal

FOOTBALL'S most valuable superstars have been revealed. This summer the Club World Cup has seen the creation of a unique transfer window format, with the shopping window open twice after a closure in the middle. 5 5 5 5 5 June 10 represents the end of the first stage of the window, before it reopens on June 16 and runs through to September 1. And for any clubs looking to splash some serious cash on one of world football 's best stars, figures from Transfermarkt have revealed the current top 10 most valuable players. Kicking the list off at number 10 is the oldest player on the list, Federico Valverde. The 26-year-old has been a top star for Real Madrid for a number of years and consequently he has a huge transfer value of £110million (€130m). The midfielder is one of four Real Madrid Galacticos to be named on the list. Three stars have an identical value of £118m (€140m) from nine down to seven, and are all 22 years of age. Germany stars Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz both ply their trade in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively, while Spain star Pedri plays for Barcelona in La Liga. Pedri's value has increased from £101m in the last edition of the figures in March, no doubt due to Barcelona's league-winning campaign and semi-final Champions League run. However, of the three, only Wirtz has been linked with a mega-money transfer away from his club, with Liverpool trying to find a middle ground with Bayer over a fee. The Reds' latest offer saw them submit an offer worth £113m, although that is still some way short of the £126m Erik ten Hag 's new outfit want to sell. New footage sees raging Jude Bellingham KICK VAR monitor in frustration after Real Madrid's last-gasp defeat The sixth player on the list is valued at £126m (€150m) and is the first English star to be named, Arsenal 's Bukayo Saka. The 23-year-old's ability speaks for itself, and England saw how much they missed his flair and creativity against Andorra at the weekend. Getting into the top five, Brazil superstar Vinicius Jr was previously the joint most expensive star on the list at £169m (€200m). However, a disappointing season that left Real Madrid without a trophy saw his value decrease to £143m (€170m), which now ranks the 24-year-old ranked fifth. Just above him is team-mate Kylian Mbappe, who despite having the same lack of silverware has actually seen his value increase to £152m (€180m). That figure is identical to former Borussia Dortmund duo Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham. Manchester City ace Haaland, 24, was previously valued at £169m, but like Vinicius, suffered a slight reduction after seeing his club fail to win a major trophy. Bellingham, 21, managed to escape the same fate and has remained on the £152m valuation. However, those figures place the trio behind Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal. Yamal is one of the front-runners for the Ballon d'Or as a result of his stellar season for his club. He saw his value increase to now make the 17-year-old the single most expensive player in world football. Yamal only recently signed a new contract with Barcelona that will see him earn £33.5m per year. Cole Palmer narrowly missed out on the top 10 after seeing his value fall to £102m, putting him level with Declan Rice and Alexander Isak. Former Crystal Palace star Michael Olise is now in the top 20 after seeing his value rise to £85m. This matches Alexis Mac Allister and Phil Foden, the latter of whom has lost almost £25m in value. Champions League winners Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have gone up in value to now be worth £76m, with Ballon d'Or candidate Ousmane Dembele valued the same.

'I really want the Wirtz saga done' - fan views on transfer window

We asked for your views on whether Liverpool need to act before the first of the two summer transfer windows shuts on Tuesday. Here are some of your comments:Jay: After all the hype, it would be tragic if we couldn't get Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz over the line. I think they're nailed on to come, but it would just be rubbish for the players and fans to have it dragging on. I'm still hoping for a number nine leaving and arriving. Slot has given enough chances to Darwin Nunez now. Something has to I really want the Wirtz saga to be done before this window closes. After Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo, I'd hate to see another big transfer fizzle out. Kerkez, I assume, will be done in the next window. As regards exits, Harvey Elliott, Nunez, and Federico Chiesa seem most likely, but I have no burning desire to see any players leave. We need a squad big enough to cope with going deep in all It would be good to tie down Wirtz and Kerkez and spend the next week planning for the main window when we may see a central striker added to allow Slot to mirror PSG's fluid I think we will get our business done early before we allow anyone to leave. But this window will make no difference as we have no competitive game between now and the Community Shield. Striker, left-back, and young centre-back with Wirtz, and we will be leading the I think the priority has to be getting the current two deals over the line, then once the window re-opens, start looking at a proper While there is no urgent need for signings to be registered before this first deadline, it would be nice to get over the line with Wirtz and Kerkez. That would enable the club to move to the next phase of the window by arranging a few outgoings and a few more incoming signings to strengthen areas like the centre-back and forward positions.

'I want the club to show maturity' - fan views on deadline day

We asked for your views on whether Everton need to act urgently in the transfer market as the first of the two this summer comes to a close on Tuesday. Here are some of your comments:Mark: One of the problems for Everton is that, without European football to offer new signings, and their current mid-table league position, they will not be a natural first choice for the top players. They are likely to have some success as the transfer window deadline approaches, as inevitably, some players without deals from their preferred clubs consider alternative transfer options. Magnus: I do not want to see any business done on deadline day. I want the club to show maturity by having already identified primary transfer targets and possible replacements should that not materialise. They should ideally be on board before pre-season starts. The only reason for a signing on deadline day should be if a bargain is identified or a replacement for a player that goes for a ridiculous amount close to deadline Not so bothered about now, but when the window re-opens, yes. Grealish would be a fab signing. He would get guaranteed game time. Pipe dream though, we wouldn't pay that kind of wage to one player, it would create resentment and undo all Moyes' good work fostering team spirit. Let's stick to players within our bargain basement Business needs to be done as we need players in but panicking can bring the wrong players in. I hope we've learnt something from past No incomings until July due to PSR. No significant sales at the close of the first mini window. Any news will be on out-of-contract players. The fun starts in July for us, which is not ideal, but in Moyes we trust (we hope!).Phil: Yes is the answer, business is a must. However, whether the budget is there is another thing. To improve our league position from last year we need fewer injured players so forget about signing anyone 28 or above. We need a more energetic, speedy and high-quality squad who are capable of playing at least every week and every three days (if Europe beckons). Players happy being rotated and who can adapt to play with whoever is alongside them.
