PM Modi has given a new generation of trains: Vaishnaw ahead of Bengaluru Vande Bharat launch
Speaking to ANI, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, "It's a matter of great happiness that a long-pending demand for Vande Bharat between Belagavi and Bengaluru will be flagged off by PM Modi tomorrow. This will provide very good connectivity to North Karnataka and Bengaluru, which is the IT capital of the country. Two more trains will be flagged off. One which connects Katra Vaishno Devi to Amritsar. Again, this is very important train because there is lot of movement between pilgrims who come from one place to the other. Third is between Nagpur and Pune. These two are very large industrial and technological hubs, and there is a lot of demand for movement between Pune and Nagpur."
Vaishnaw praised PM Modi for launching many Amrit Bharat Express trains. He said, "In recent times, PM Modi has launched many Amrit Bharat trains. Amrit Bharat Express trains are trains which are providing a very good affordable service to the people with low income and lower middle income families. Almost all the features of Vande Bharat trains are there in the Amrit Bharat express trains and the fare is very very low. This is proving to be a very big success for a people to go for in search for livelihood to distant cities."
While praising Namo Bharat trains, he said, "Namo Bharat train has also become very successful, both the trains running are highly appreciated by passengers. Now we are taking large-scale production of Namo Bharat, Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains."
Vaishnaw also added that the Vande Bharat Sleeper will probably be launched by September. He said, "The Vande Bharat sleeper is also about to be launched. Probably by September, we should get the Vande Bharat sleeper also ready. So in a way, PM Modi has given us a totally new generation of railway trains."
PM Modi will visit Karnataka on Sunday (August 10) and will inaugurate and lay foundation stones of several developmental projects in the state.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, PM Modi will flag off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR Railway Station in Bengaluru at around 11 am. Thereafter, he will flag off the Yellow line of Bangalore metro and undertake a metro ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Electronic City metro station. At around 1 pm, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of urban connectivity projects in Bengaluru. He will also address a public function.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Yellow line from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra of the Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project, having a route length of over 19 km with 16 stations worth around ₹7,160 crore. With the opening of this yellow line, the operational metro network in Bengaluru will increase to over 96 km, serving a large population in the region.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project worth over ₹15,610 crore. The total route length of the project will be more than 44 km with 31 elevated stations. This infrastructure project will address the growing transportation needs of the city, catering to residential, industrial, commercial and educational areas.
PM Modi will also flag off three Vande Bharat Express trains from Bengaluru. It includes trains from Bengaluru to Belagavi, Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune. These high-speed trains will significantly enhance regional connectivity, reduce travel time and provide a world-class travel experience to the passengers.

In a telephone conversation on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared with Prime Minister Narendra Modi his views on recent developments related to Ukraine, and said it was necessary to 'limit the export of Russian energy', particularly oil. Modi's talk with Zelenskyy followed his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, in which the two agreed to deepen bilateral ties. The Modi-Putin conversation came two days after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to impose a 25 per cent penalty on India for its purchase of Russian crude oil. Putin and Trump are set to meet at a summit in Alaska on August 15, a meeting India has welcomed. 'This meeting holds the promise of bringing to an end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up the prospects for peace,' India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday. 'As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on several occasions, 'This is not an era of war',' it said. India, therefore, endorses the upcoming summit meeting and stands ready to support these efforts, the MEA added. The leaders also reviewed progress in the India-Ukraine bilateral partnership and discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They agreed to remain in touch, the MEA added. Zelenskyy said he discussed 'in detail' important issues with Modi, including 'bilateral cooperation and the overall diplomatic situation'. 'I am grateful to the prime minister for his warm words of support for our people,' he said. He also stressed the need to 'limit the export of Russian energy', particularly oil. 'We also discussed in detail the sanctions against Russia. I noted that it is necessary to limit the export of Russian energy, particularly oil, to reduce its potential and ability to finance the continuation of this war,' he said. 'It is important that every leader who has tangible leverage over Russia sends the corresponding signals to Moscow.' The Ukrainian President added, 'It is important that India is supporting our peace efforts and shares the position that everything concerning Ukraine must be decided with Ukraine's participation. Other formats will not deliver results.' 'Glad to speak with President Zelenskyy and hear his perspectives on recent developments. I conveyed India's consistent position on the need for an early and peaceful resolution of the conflict,' Modi said. Nepal Court denies release request of former Home Minister Lamichhane

Action without inquiry would be too harsh, says Bengal on ECI order to suspend 4
Kolkata: The West Bengal government informed the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday that it has withdrawn a state government officer and a data entry operator from election-related duties and initiated an inquiry. (ANI) This comes days after the ECI directed the Mamata Banerjee government to suspend four West Bengal government officers associated with the updation of electoral rolls and lodge a police complaint against them, as well as a data entry operator. The officers were accused of adding fictitious voters' names to the electoral roll and compromising data security. 'Initiating proceedings before a detailed enquiry against these officers, who have consistently demonstrated sincerity and competence, may be a disproportionately harsh measure. Such an action could have a demoralising impact not only on the individuals but also on the broader team of officers engaged in electoral responsibilities and other administrative functions,' chief secretary Manoj Pant said in a letter to ECI secretary Sujeet Kumar Mishra. On August 5, ECI told the state government to suspend two Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and two Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) accused of adding fictitious voters to the electoral roll and compromising data security. The poll panel also directed the state's chief secretary to lodge FIRs against the four officers and a casual data entry operator. The two EROs are West Bengal Civil Service (executive) officers. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, however, had made it clear that her government will not penalise the officers. 'Government officers were being threatened. Yesterday two of my government officers were suspended. The state was directed to lodge FIR against them. Has the election been announced? Under which law are you (ECI) directing us? I won't do this. I won't punish them,' she said at a rally in Bengal's Jhargram district two days after getting the ECI directive. On Friday, ECI gave the state government till 3pm on Monday to submit a compliance report on the action taken against the four officers and the data entry operator. The chief secretary said the services of AERO of Moyna AC and the data entry operator of Baruipur Purba have been withdrawn from electoral revision and election-related duties. 'Further action taken report will be submitted post completion of enquiry,' the chief secretary said in his letter on Monday. According to ECI, the two EROs were accused of accepting a large number of Form 6 from alleged fictitious voters following a sample checking of applications from new voters in the state. Further enquiry revealed that the mandatory verification by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were also allegedly not done in those cases. The officers were also accused of providing user access to ERO Net, a centralised system that helps election officials with electoral roll management, to unauthorised users. Meanwhile, the West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) Officers' Association sought the state government's intervention, saying that the officers had no deliberate or mala fide intent behind any procedural lapse and the suspension appeared to be a harsh measure. The association requested the state government to take up the matter with the ECI and consider a review of the suspension orders. 'District level officers and field officers have a wide range of responsibilities and functions assigned to them by their appointing authorities, in addition to the electoral roll revision works and other election-related works which are time bound tasks. Therefore, there are occasions where certain functions are delegated to the subordinate staff in good faith,' the chief secretary said in his letter. The letter also stated that the government has undertaken a comprehensive review of the existing processes and procedures governing the conduct of the said exercise.
