Florida football tops toughest 2025 schedules list, per USA TODAY Sports

The Florida Gators are riding into the 2025 college football season with plenty of optimism. But according to a preseason analysis from USA TODAY Sports, they'll also be facing the toughest schedule in the country–ranked No. 1 on the list. The ranking is based on the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, which offers an early look at the national landscape before the season begins. For Florida, that early snapshot makes one thing clear: a stacked lineup of ranked opponents is waiting. The grind starts in Week 3 with a road trip to the No. 9 LSU Tigers, followed by another away game against the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes. The Gators then return to the Swamp to face No. 1 Texas in what should be one of the most high-profile matchups of the early season. From there, the Orange and Blue head to No. 21 Texas A&M, making it four straight games against ranked opponents. Now that's a stretch that few teams would want to face. The late-season slate is just as daunting. The annual rivalry against No. 4 Georgia opens in November, followed by a road trip to No. 15 Ole Miss. The regular season wraps up in Gainesville against No. 18 Tennessee. Every week is a challenge, with no obvious break on the schedule. Florida football finished strong last year, and head coach Billy Napier will have his team aiming high. But sitting at No. 1 on the toughest schedule list means any playoff run will require navigating one of the most demanding paths the SEC, or the country, has to offer. Here is everything USA TODAY Sports writer Jordan Mendoza said about Florida's tough schedule in 2025. What USA TODAY Sports said about Florida's schedule "There's palpable hype in Florida after the strong finish to last season, and the Gators get rewarded with the toughest schedule in the country. Week 3 starts a stretch of three consecutive games against top 10 opponents: at No. 9 LSU and at No. 10 Miami ahead of a home game with No. 1 Texas. "The grind doesn't stop afterward with a trip to No. 21 Texas A&M the following week. There's the annual meeting with No. 4 Georgia to start a November schedule that also includes heading to No. 15 Mississippi and playing host to No. 18 Tennessee." Texas football schedule: Every Longhorns opponent ranked in first US LBM Coaches Poll

Four opponents ranked in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll highlight Texas schedule For the first time in school history, the Texas Longhorns are the preseason No. 1 team in America in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The hype surrounding new starting quarterback Arch Manning and the newly minted top-ranked team continues to swell as the historic season opener with Ohio State draws closer. Texas' schedule should set up very well for a run at the National Title. At least the regular season portion. While UT doesn't have the easiest schedule in the nation, it isn't the toughest either. Texas schedule ranks middle of the pack in the SEC. The Longhorns only play four preseason ranked opponents in 2025. The bad news is, three of the four are on the road. Texas plays at Ohio State, Florida and Georgia. UT gets rival Texas A&M at home in Austin at DKR. As we saw last year, the margin of error to get into the SEC Championship Game is small. But there should be two to three automatic bids that go to SEC teams if needed. Here's a look at the Longhorns ranked opponents: No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes | Columbus, OH | Aug. 30 This will be the first time in college football history the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation will face off in the opening game of the season. Of course, it was Ohio State, on its way to the national title, that knocked Texas out of the college football playoffs last year in the semifinal at the Cotton Bowl. This year the stakes are smaller but the hype is probably bigger. No. 17 Florida Gators | Gainesville, FL | Oct. 4 Don't overlook this trip to the Swamp the week before the Texas-Oklahoma Red River Rivalry Game in early October. The Swamp is a tough road environment. If the game is at night, it will be tougher than the Noon kickoff at Ohio State. The Gators also have a possible Heisman Trophy Candidate at QB in DJ Lagway. Lagway missed the game last season in Austin due to an injury. No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs | Athens, GA | Nov. 15 Texas lost to the Bulldogs twice last season, once in Austin and once in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. The Horns struggled on offense in both games. This will be the last of the three ranked road tests of the year, so Texas should be battle hardened by the mid-November. No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies | Austin, TX | Nov. 28 A year's worth of bragging rights are on the line when the Aggies face the Austin end of the rivalry renewal. Last year, freshly reunited in the SEC, UT and A&M played for the first time in over a decade. The Longhorns came out on top 17-7 in front of a raucous turned quiet Kyle Field crowd. That game ended up being for a spot in the SEC title game. No doubt 2025 will be the same. Preseason US LBM Coaches Poll Others Receiving Votes: Oklahoma 221; Missouri 142; Louisville 126; USC 116; Utah 86; Baylor 76; Auburn 50; Iowa 49; Memphis 34; Army 33; Tulane 31; Georgia Tech 27; TCU 24; Nebraska 19; Syracuse 16; Washington 15; Navy 14; Arkansas 14; Duke 12; Colorado 12; Minnesota 11; UNLV 8; Florida State 8; Vanderbilt 3; Buffalo 1 Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire.

Florida Gators legend Tim Tebow named one of top 25 college QBs of last 25 years

It's been more than a decade since Tim Tebow last took a snap for the Florida Gators, but the legend hasn't faded one bit. In its latest ranking of the 25 best college football quarterbacks of the past 25 years, Sports Illustrated placed Tebow at No. 4 overall–a reminder that few have ever done it better in college football, and no one has ever done it quite like Tebow. Tebow was the first sophomore to ever win the Heisman Trophy, the first player in NCAA history to rush and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in a season and the only quarterback in SEC history to rush for more than 50 touchdowns in a career. By the time he left Gainesville, Tebow owned five NCAA, 14 SEC and 28 UF records. Tebow's career totals–9,285 passing yards, 88 passing touchdowns, 2,947 rushing yards, 57 rushing touchdowns–read like something out of a video game. Gator Nation knows that Tebow isn't just one of the best quarterbacks of the last 25 years–he's the program's gold standard. His fiery postgame speeches, his willingness to run through a wall for his team and his dominance on the field defined an ear when Florida football ruled the sport. Of course, Tebow isn't the only former Gator to make SI's list. Cam Newton checks in at No. 2 after leading the Auburn Tigers to a national championship and winning the Heisman in 2010. Newton's time in Gainesville was brief–backing up Tebow before transferring–but it's hard not to wonder what might have been had he stayed. Here is everything SI's Bryan Fischer wrote about Tebow and why he was one of college football's best quarterbacks in the past 25 years. What SI said about Tebow "The lefty sandwiched winning two national titles with the Gators with becoming the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy in 2007. He finished his career with a remarkable 145 total touchdowns—his 57 on the ground were more than Herschel Walker had rushing in his career—and spent a decade as the SEC's career leader in passing efficiency before his 170.8 mark was eventually broken. Though Tebow's persona could at times be divisive, there's little questioning his leadership on and off the field that has to be factored into how he played the position."
