TDP-led govt tarnishing Andhra Pradeshs image, says YSRCP
The former MP claimed that leaders of the ruling alliance were demanding contracts, commissions and jobs, which he said could lead to factory closures and relocation of industries.
'The coalition government is tarnishing Andhra Pradesh's industrial and social fabric," YSRCP leader Talari Rangaiah said in a release issued by the party.
'Instead of visionary governance promised by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, what we see is extortion and mismanagement," he alleged.
Rangaiah accused the government of 'plundering" the state's natural resources such as sand, quartz and liquor, and of stifling avenues of wealth creation.
He further alleged that welfare schemes were being 'manipulated to benefit party loyalists, in violation of the principle of impartiality".
The YSCRCP claimed that the number of welfare pension beneficiaries is 'steadily declining", while field assistants, animators and contractors are being retrenched, contradicting the government's promises of job creation.
Rangaiah said the previous YSRCP ensured transparent and corruption-free delivery of welfare schemes through direct benefit transfer.
This corrupt government threatens industries and impoverishes citizens, he alleged, calling for immediate corrective measures to protect Andhra Pradesh's economic and social future.
Senior TDP leader G Deepak Reddy hit back at Rangaiah, accusing him of making false claims.
'These statements are not only factually incorrect but a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and cover up the YSRCP government's anti-industry track record," Reddy told PTI.
It was under the visionary leadership of Naidu that the automobile company was brought to Andhra Pradesh, he said, adding that the state government at that time ensured a conducive environment for industrial growth, resulting in one of the largest foreign investments in the state's history.
The automobile company created thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boosting the local economy and placing Andhra Pradesh on the global industrial map, he said.
Contrary to the YSRCP's claims, Reddy said, it is their actions that have undermined investor confidence.
He said the TDP is committed to transparent, industry-friendly governance and the creation of quality employment opportunities for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
'We call upon the YSRCP to refrain from spreading misinformation and instead focus on creating a stable and welcoming environment for investment and development," Reddy said. PTI STH DIV DIV

SC allows use of Stalin's name in TN schemes, says other govts do it too
NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Wednesday said naming of welfare schemes after political netas was all pervasive in states and at Centre and ruled that no exception could be taken to Tamil Nadu govt's 'Ungaludan Stalin' scheme, which translates into 'Your's Stalin'. Setting aside Madras HC's July 31 interim order restraining use of names of political personalities in any govt scheme in TN, which goes to polls in April-May next year, a bench of Chief Justice Bhushan R Gavai, and Justices K Vinod Chandran and N V Anjaria penalised petitioner before the HC, AIADMK MP C Ve Shanmugam, with Rs 10 lakh. Dictating the order in open court after a more than hour-long hearing on appeals filed by DMK and TN govt, CJI Gavai said, "Launching of schemes in the name of political netas is a phenomenon practised throughout the country. The Tamil Nadu govt has submitted a list of 45 welfare schemes (launched by states and Union govt) named after various political netas. We do not wish to name the schemes in order to cause embarrassment to political parties. Interestingly, the CJI-led bench withdrew Shanmugam's writ petition before the HC to the SC and dismissed it terming it as "fully misconceived and an abuse of the process of law" for singling out the TN scheme and not challenging similar schemes prevalent in other states and at Centre. It allowed appeals of DMK and TN govt to set aside the HC order. DMK was represented by senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and P Wilson. Rohatgi said SC had permitted use of photographs of the President, PM, CM and cabinet ministers in public advertisements to generate awareness among citizens about welfare schemesand that no political party in office has been immune to this phenomenon. For TN, senior advocate A M Singhvi supported the contentions of the party and said the scheme was meant to set up camps in every nook and corner of the state to enable and facilitate people of TN to avail full benefits of existing welfare schemes. Wilson said the AIADMK MP had approached Election Commission with the same allegation on July 21 for action against DMK and three days later, moved the HC alleging that EC was not taking action. Senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for the AIADMK MP, attempted to convince the court that a conjoint reading of a series of orders passed by SC on the issue took one to the conclusion that no welfare scheme could be named after political netas. After imposing a cost of Rs 10 lakh on Shanmugam, the bench said if the amount was not paid by the MP within a week, he would be liable for contempt of court proceedings.

New bar policy gets AP cabinet nod, allotment through draw of lots
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Wednesday approved the new bar policy for three years (2025-28). The govt has fixed the licence fee by dividing the bars into three categories based on the population of the area. Like in retail liquor outlets, the govt has reserved 10% of bar licences for toddy tapers at 50% of the licence fee. The allotment of licence would be done through draw of lots. Anyone can apply for a bar licence by paying the application fee. A minimum of four applications is required for conducting the lottery for a particular area. Announcing the decision, I&PR minister Kolusu Pardasarathi said the new policy was finalised after studying bar policies in neighbouring states. Pardasarathi observed that more than 50% of bars are struggling to stay afloat in the existing policy, which prompted the govt to introduce the new policy. "The 840 existing licences will be renewed according to the new policy. Business hours for the bars have been fixed from 10 am to 11 pm. The existing bar policy will expire on Aug 31, and the new policy will come into effect from Sep 1. The application process and allotment of licences will be completed before Aug 31," he said. The minister further noted that during the YSRCP regime, there was huge difference between the bid prices, leading to cartelisation. "Allotment of licences will be done through a transparent process as the licence fee is fixed for the bars in all three categories," he added. While the licence fee for bars in cities up to 50,000 population has been fixed at Rs 35 lakh per annum, Rs 50 lakh will be charged for bars in cities with population between 50,000 and 5 lakh. The annual licence fee for bars located in cities with more than 5 lakh population has been fixed at Rs 75 lakh. The fee to apply for the bar licence will be Rs 5 lakh. Unlike in the existing system, licence fee can be paid in six equal instalments and submission of bank guarantee equivalent to one instalment. The liquor off take price for bars is fixed on par with retail shops. The cabinet also approved the proposal of granting licences to permit rooms in retail outlets. The licence fee for the permit room has been fixed at Rs 5 lakh per annum. The decision was taken after 2.71 lakh cases of drinking in public places was reported in last one year. This is to ensure that no public inconvenience is caused and also to encourage responsible drinking," Pardasarathi said.
