Have you seen this missing elderly man?
The desperate search is on for 77-year-old Tshatshi Maponya, who vanished while driving home from church in Soshanguve, Pretoria — his worried family fears he may be disoriented and is pleading for help to bring him home safely.
According to his daughter, Mpho Maponya Shongwe, he was last seen on Sunday.
'He reportedly stopped at someone's house to rest and gave incorrect information about himself — saying he had only one daughter when he has three.'
According to his family, he's been driving the same route for years but had recently started getting lost along the way, raising growing concerns about his mental state.
Maponya was wearing beige long trousers, a blue and white striped long-sleeved shirt, a scotch-patterned blazer, and a grey coat.
Do you have any information that could help find him? Please phone Mpho on 0682674381.
'Any information or assistance would mean the world to us. Thank you.'

What should you do when you have a missing loved one?
When a person goes missing, it is of the utmost importance for the SAPS to fulfill our mandate to serve and protect the citizens of South Africa. It is essential to take steps and start the investigation into a missing person's case immediately. You can assist the SAPS when reporting a missing person by following these steps:
Report a missing person at your nearest police station immediately.
Produce a recent photograph of the missing person, if possible.
Give a complete description of the missing person's last whereabouts, clothes that they were wearing, as well as any information that can assist the investigating officer.
Complete and sign a SAPS 55(A) form. This form safeguards the SAPS from hoax reports and indemnifies the SAPS to distribute the photograph and information of the missing person.
Obtain the investigating officer's contact details, and send any additional information that might become available.
If a missing person is found or returns voluntarily, inform the investigating officer immediately. A SAPS 92 form must be completed to inform the Bureau of Missing Persons that the missing person's report can be removed from the circulation system.

Criminals who shot dead three cops well-trained, says Masemola
National police commissioner Gen Fannie Masemola says the shooters responsible for killing three police officers in two separate incidents over the weekend were clearly well trained in handling firearms. 'In both instances, you can see that the criminals are well-trained in the use of firearms because they shot in the head. Even [in the incident of] Sgt Lawrence Mtsweni, they shot him in the head. 'You can just imagine shooting in the head in darkness and finding where the head is ... this shows we are dealing with somebody who knows what he's doing,' said Masemola. 'So, members of SAPS going out there looking for them, be careful and know what you are dealing with. Let's not get discouraged, let's go out then and hunt them [criminals] and show them we are in charge,' said Masemola. He was speaking during a visit to Mtsweni's family in Mpumalanga on Sunday. Mtsweni was among a group of police officers who were responding to a business robbery at Usave shopping centre at Schoemansdal when he was shot on Saturday morning. On Friday, WO Vuyisile Sintwa, 51, a detective attached to the Johannesburg trio task team and Sgt Simon Masenye, 45, died after being shot, allegedly by Zimbabwean national Thabang Moyo. At the time of the murder, they were transporting him from the Roodepoort magistrate's court. According to police, in the past financial year, 27 officers died in the line of duty. Since April, six more officers have been killed in criminal attacks and ambushes. One suspect has been arrested for Mtsweni's murder. Masemola said this was not the time for the men in blue to cry but rather to deal with 'these criminals decisively so'. Mtsweni's son, Nkosinenhlanhla Mtsweni, said he was a loving and funny father. 'The last time I saw and spoke to my father was when he asked me to polish his boots. It's hurting for all of us as a family. My father was a loving person who also made sure we were happy, and he was really funny to us as his children,' the heartbroken Nkosinenhlanhla said. Police unions have condemned the recent deadly attacks on officers, saying if the same officers who risk their lives to protect citizens are not safe, then the fight against crime is severely compromised. The loss of three officers since Friday is not just a statistic, it is a reflection of the dangerous conditions under which our members operate daily and it leaves lasting scars on their families, colleagues and society at large Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union spokesperson Richard Mamabolo Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union spokesperson Richard Mamabolo said the ongoing killing of police officers was a deeply concerning and painful reality for the union. 'The loss of three officers since Friday is not just a statistic, it is a reflection of the dangerous conditions under which our members operate daily and it leaves lasting scars on their families, colleagues and society at large,' said Mamabolo. SA Police Union national spokesperson Lesiba Thobakgale said there was 'no political will' to declare police killings treason. 'Police officers are representing the state, and the state must take measures to protect the protectors, as an attack on police or law enforcement officers is an attack on the state.'

Lotus Gardens women create a lasting safe space for abuse survivors
Pretoria West women recently committed to support each other and create a safe space to fight issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and crimes against women and girls. On August 8, the group from Lotus Gardens gathered at ELC Church to establish an important safe space and support network in the fight against GBV in the spirit of Women's Day. The initiative was hosted by Manzimankulu Women and Children, and the Njabulo Substance Prevention Centre. Organiser, Poppy Lekola, said the event aimed to empower women, provide them with resources, and promote a sense of collective strength in a community facing the widespread issue of GBV. 'Women's Day is about us and for us. We wanted to create a space where every woman in our community can feel heard, understood, and safe,' she said. She highlighted that many abused women in the community are afraid to speak out because they fear judgment. She said however, they wanted to build a network of support so no woman feels alone in her struggle against abuse. 'We wanted to strengthen the sisterhood support system that we are supposed to be.' She emphasised that women should not only gather on Women's Day to support one another. 'Women don't experience abuse on this day only, some have to endure it every day of their lives. It is important that as women, we remain a beacon of hope and safety for our sisters all the time,' she said. WATCH: GBV life coach and counsellor, Nthabiseng Masilela, emphasised the critical need for such initiatives. 'Survivors of GBV and those affected by it really do need such programmes, because they are a space where they feel comfortable to share their stories without feeling judged,' she said. She added that said such initiatives help survivors begin their healing journey. 'When women gather and unite like this, they are able to share important information about their rights and available support services while supporting each other,' she said. The event also provided a platform for women who have experienced GBV to share their stories. The aim was to promote shared understanding and break the silence surrounding the abuse of women. Lorraine Tshabuse shared her experience of being in an abusive marriage, saying, 'I stayed in an abusive marriage for over eight years, suffering in silence, but my journey to healing started the day I decided to speak out. 'To all women in abusive relationships, know that you are not to blame. Your story is valid, and we are here as your sisters waiting to support you.'
