Rs 44000000000! But Mukesh Ambani wants to separate this business from Reliance because…, it is…

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries is all set to take out its FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) business into a separate entity and a move expected to be completed within this year depends on regulatory approvals. Currently, this business operates under Reliance Retail, but soon it will function as an independent unit within the broader Reliance Industries umbrella.
During the Q1 FY2025 earnings conference call, it was confirmed that the FMCG vertical of Reliance Retail will be demerged and launched as a standalone company. Reliance Retail Growth
Dinesh Taluja, CFO and Head of Corporate Development at Reliance Retail, said the company witnessed 11% year-on-year growth in Q1. Both the grocery and fashion segments performed strongly, while consumer electronics saw some slowdown due to an early monsoon. He stated that Reliance has a well-diversified portfolio in multiple categories which gives stable performance.
During this quarter, Reliance opened 388 new stores, taking the total store count to over 19,600. Additionally, the company recorded a 16% YoY rise in customer transactions. The FMCG division saw big momentum, with Q1 revenue reaching Rs 4,400 crore, nearly double compared to the same period last year. Reliance Retail Sales
Reliance noted that nearly 70% of its FMCG sales come from general trade, i.e., small neighborhood stores. While Reliance operates its own retail outlets (both B2C and B2B), it has also developed a nationwide distribution network to ensure product availability across regions.
During this year's IPL, Reliance launched an ad campaign for its Campa Cola brand which gave good results. The company thinks this will also give stronger future sales for Campa and other products.
Reliance is also setting up new factories and R&D labs across India. These facilities will incorporate automation and advanced technologies to ensure high-quality products at affordable prices. The goal is to make consumer products that are both appealing and economical. Reliance Retail New FMCG Brand
The company stated that while its FMCG and retail businesses currently function distinctly, the demerger will formalize this separation. Both businesses will operate separately with professional independence. The new FMCG company will soon operate under the name 'Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL),' housing brands like Campa Cola.

Delhi HC denies bail to DHFL promoter Kapil Wadhawan in bank fraud case

New Delhi: The Delhi high court denied bail on Monday to DHFL promoter Kapil Wadhawan in an alleged Rs 34,926-crore bank fraud case, noting that his "conduct during custody was not beyond reproach". Justice Ravinder Dudeja rejected his bail plea, saying such economic offences were not only crimes against specific victims but against the financial system at large. The CBI alleged Wadhawan, as promoter and CMD of DHFL, was the principal architect of a massive financial fraud involving diversion and misappropriation of approximately Rs 34,926 crore from a consortium of 17 banks. "The allegations regarding manipulation of valuable assets and transactions carried out during judicial custody are grave and suggest that the applicant continues to exercise significant control and influence," the HC observed. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai It noted CBI's submission that Wadhawan was facing multiple investigations and cases across jurisdictions involving serious financial offences, which undermined his argument that he posed no risk if enlarged on bail. "The court cannot permit the release of a person who is prima facie the mastermind of a deep-rooted financial fraud, especially when the trial is at a nascent stage," it concluded, noting that if released on bail he might tamper with evidence or, worse, flee from justice. "Many of the witnesses in this case are stated to be either ex-employees or associates of DHFL and, as such, there is a high risk and possibility that the petitioner might try to influence witnesses," it said. Wadhawan is accused of creating and operating 87 shell companies in the names of associates, employees, and relatives to siphon off funds, falsely recorded as retail housing loans to over 2.6 lakh fictitious customers through a non-existent "Bandra Branch-001" in DHFL's internal systems. He was taken into custody in the case on July 19, 2022, and granted default statutory bail on Dec 3, 2022, but the Supreme Court cancelled his bail on Jan 24, 2024. The court observed his "effective custody" was two years, and not four years as claimed. "Having regard to the nature and seriousness of the allegations, the gravity of the offence, the applicant's central role in the conspiracy, the potential adverse impact of his release on the trial, and the huge magnitude of the funds siphoned off, this court finds no merit in the present application," the order held.

Jeera, isabgol trade ifeels the heat as US imposes 25% tariff

Ahmedabad: India's spice exporters are feeling the heat after the United States imposed a 25% tariff on cumin (jeera) imports from India. The move, exporters warn, could dent the country's spice trade. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to the Federation of Indian Spice Stakeholders (FISS), the tariff imposition could impact cumin trade by at least 15% in volumes, despite India being the key sourcing market for both these spices. U Karthick, vice-president of FISS, said, "The US is the biggest spice buyer from India after China, particularly for cumin seeds. Gujarat is currently the sole sourcing market given the reduced crop yield in countries like Syria, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and Egypt, which is a result of geopolitical conflicts. Despite this, the sudden increase in duties will be difficult for traders and is likely to impact demand in the longer term. " The blow is even more severe for psyllium husk (isabgol), a commodity widely exported to the US. "So far, a 10% duty was imposed on psyllium husk, which has now been raised to 25%. This crop is widely used in pharma and bakery-related applications and, therefore, the product will get expensive, which may impact consumption," explained Dinesh Patel, ex-chairman of the agriculture produce market committee (APMC) Unjha. The Unjha market yard is among the largest spice trading hubs in the country, and a bulk of both domestic and global trade of cumin seeds, coriander, fennel seeds, and psyllium husk takes place from here. Rakesh Patel, secretary of the Isabgul Processors Association, said, "If duty is imposed, the cost will have to be borne by the US residents as India is the biggest supplier. There will be some initial setbacks in the trade, but things will settle in the next couple of months. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now " FISS estimates suggest that India's cumin production for the current season is pegged at 5.38 lakh MT, slightly down from last year's 6.05 lakh MT, due to erratic weather conditions resulting in a 5% crop reduction. However, when combined with 0.8 to 1.1 lakh MT of stock carried over from the previous season, the effective availability remains robustly at over 6 lakh MT. "Though these countries still depend on India for supply, such high tariffs from major markets like the US will hurt procurement cycles and business planning," Karthick explained. Prices of jeera have recently declined due to the subdued export sentiment to China. In 2025, the total estimated production of psyllium husk across India stands at 2.36 lakh MT. Around 20% of this is consumed locally, while the rest is exported, with the US accounting for 50% of the exports. The export value of isabgol alone is pegged at Rs 3,500 crore, while the combined domestic and international market turnover is hovering around Rs 5,000 crore. Spice exporters and traders, who mostly ship whole spices to the US and China, are now facing pressure from importers to absorb the cost of duties, according to FISS sources. "This has become increasingly unsustainable, especially as importers value-add these whole spices into powders, blends, nutraceutical ingredients, and other consumer-ready products, which are then exported globally," said Karthick. The challenge is two-fold: mitigating the near-term impact of the US tariffs and preparing for a more resilient, diversified future. Exporters are calling for urgent policy support, deeper market access agreements, and incentives for value-added exports.

Three defaulters pay Rs 21 lakh back to NDCC on first day of new one-time settlement scheme

Nashik: The Nashik District Central Cooperative Bank has received Rs 21.3 lakh in outstanding payments from three loan defaulters who opted to settle their debts under the new one-time settlement (OTS) scheme, effective Aug 1. NDCC Bank administrator Santosh Bidvai said, "Our new OTS scheme is the best offer for farmers from any cooperative banking institution in the state. After settling their loans, farmers become eligible for future short-term loans, unlike nationalized banks that blacklist OTS beneficiaries." The bank, which conducted its general body meeting recently, proposed the OTS scheme as per the guidelines of the cooperative department. The meeting was chaired by Vidyadhar Anaskar, the chairman of the administrative board of Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank, the organisation that is now appointed as the institutional advisor to the cash-strapped NDCC Bank to steer it out of the financial crisis. The bank has 56,700 defaulters with a collective outstanding debt of Rs 2,300 crore. Among these, 45,000 account holders who defaulted before June 2022 are eligible for the new OTS scheme. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo The bank charges 8% interest on a regular basis, and after the account is categorised as a non-performing asset (NPA), the interest levied is 12% and above. "Under the OTS scheme, the total amount at the time of being declared as NPA is considered, and instead of hefty interest, defaulters will be charged 2% interest for loans up to Rs 1 lakh, 4% interest on loans up to Rs 5 lakh and 5% interest on loans up to Rs 10 lakh. For loans above Rs 10 lakh, a 6% interest rate will be applied," Bidvai said. The officer said if 100% recovery was done, the bank would suffer a loss of Rs 672 crore. He further underlined that the farmers were meeting govt and demanding interest and loan waivers. "My request is to settle the loan and the interest. The settlement will be in black and white and save further interest being charged by the bank. As and when govt announces the waiver, that amount will be transferred to the farmers' bank account," Bidvai said. He said the majority of beneficiaries under the scheme were loan defaulters with outstanding amounts up to Rs 1 lakh, particularly those who defaulted since 2016-17. "Due to state govt's loan waiver in 2019, defaulters from that period will not be eligible for future schemes, leaving loan settlement as their only option," a senior bank official said.
