
Kuwait launches tender to develop 500MW solar power project
Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) has invited prequalification applications for developing the Al Dibdibah Power and Al Shagaya Renewable Energy (Phase III) Zone 2 project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The 500 megawatts (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power project will be developed as a design, finance, construct, operate, maintain and transfer project backed by a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy (MEWRE), according to an announcement by KAPP.
The submission period is from 18 May 2025 to 24 July 2025.
The project is located in Shagayah, within the administrative boundary of Jahra Governorate, approximately 100 km to the west of the capital Kuwait City.
Prequalified consortia for the 1,100 MW Al Dibdibah Power and Al Shagaya Renewable Energy (Phase III) Zone 1 were announced on 30 July 2024. Shortlisted groups included France's TotalEnergies Renewables with Vietnam's Trung Nam Construction Investment Corporation; Saudi's ACWA Power with Kuwait's Alternative Energy Projects Company; UAE's Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) with local company Fouad Alghanim & Sons General Trading and Contracting; France's EDF Renewables with Abdullah Al Hamad Al Sagar and Brothers Company and Korean Western Power Company and China's Jinko Power with Japan's JERA.
KAPP and MEWRE were advised by Ernst & Young as lead and financial advisor, DLA Piper as legal advisor and DNV as technical and environmental advisor.

TK Elevator snaps up key Kuwait International Airport contract
Kuwait - TK Elevator (TKE) has announced that it has been awarded a major package (Package 3) covering the aircraft aprons and taxiways and service buildings at the Kuwait International Airport (KWI). TKE's 55 custom-designed PBBs, featuring a unique steel and glass design and tailored width specifications, will seamlessly accommodate all aircraft types – from Code C (for example A320 or B737) to code F (eg A380 or B 747-8), it stated. On the key contract win, Ignacio Madinah, the CEO of Airport Solutions at TK Elevator, said: "Our reputation for service and product excellence, customisation capabilities and maintenance expertise combined with our extensive experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, makes us a trusted partner." NBK signs an MoU with AIU to enhance career development

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed to make official visit to Kuwait on Tuesday
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, will on Tuesday begin an official visit to Kuwait aimed at bolstering long-standing ties between the Gulf countries. Sheikh Mansour is to hold talks with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal to explore ways to enhance partnerships in various fields, state news agency Wam reported. The Emirates is one of Kuwait's largest economic partners, with trade between the countries growing markedly in recently years. President Sheikh Mohamed paid a state visit to Kuwait in November last year, during which he met Sheikh Meshal. In September last year, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al Yahya to inaugurate Kuwait 's new embassy in Abu Dhabi. The building is in the Embassies District, Al Ma'arid. Sheikh Abdullah said at the time that the new embassy showed the strength of ties between the UAE and Kuwait.
