'Absolutely not': Texas A&M HC Mike Elko continues to deny Shemar Stewart rumor
Three months ago, three Texas A&M defensive linemen were selected in the 2025 NFL draft, led by junior edge Shemar Stewart, who was selected 17th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. However, while Nic Scourton and Shemar Turner have both signed their rookie deals with Carolina and Chicago, Stewart and the Bengals' front office are stuck in neutral and continue to battle just a day before NFL training camps officially begin.
Progress has yet to be made, and things took a bizarre turn after Cover 3 podcast host and 247Sports writer Bud Elliott revealed that an unnamed Texas A&M staffer told him that Shemar Stewart had been working out in the team's facility in College Station, and had a chance to, yes, return to the program for the 2025 season.
Last week, when asked about the possibility, Elko quickly squashed the rumor, stating that while Stewart had been working out with the team this summer, he is in no way returning to the program and will continue to work out his contract issues with Cincinnati. This continued on Monday, but this time, Elko was even more emphatic in his response.
"Absolutely not. Some people live in this fairytale land of social media where you can create false narratives. I see him every day in our weight room, but he's a Cincinnati Bengal."
Again, working out in college weight rooms ahead of each player's NFL rookie season is not uncommon, and there is no legal pathway for Stewart to return to college, as it has never been done before and is unlikely to happen in the future.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin gives injury updates on Joey Porter Jr., Cory Trice, Calvin Anderson
CB Cory Trice sustained a hamstring injury and OL Calvin Anderson had a lower body injury in tonight's practice, Tomlin Porter Jr. is day-to-day with an unspecified ailment. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin has provided some injury updates following the Friday Night Lights practice in Latrobe. Following the annual tradition at Latrobe Memorial Stadium, Tomlin addressed three Steelers dealing with injuries — CB Joey Porter Jr., CB Cory Trice, and OL Calvin Anderson. According to the long-time Steelers head coach, Porter is dealing with an undisclosed injury but is day-to-day, Anderson's lower body is being evaluated after slipping, and Trice sustained a hamstring injury. Porter didn't participate in practice and was spotted by spectators and reporters alike wearing sweats — while both Anderson and Trice were hurt at Friday Night Lights. Anderson serves as the top backup offensive tackle, while Trice may need to compete for a roster spot in a loaded CB room — which makes the timing of his hamstring injury even more unfortunate. We at Steelers Wire will keep you all updated on the condition of these three Steelers, which will likely be cleared up in the next couple of training camp practices — hopefully with a positive injury update. Pittsburgh Steelers fans soak in the excitement at annual Friday Night Lights practice
The energy was electric when the Steelers showed up to Latrobe Memorial Stadium for their annual Friday Night practice under the lights. 'Just the atmosphere,' said Jason Stone of Uniontown, attending his third Friday Night Lights. 'The people the crowd, the noise, you can't get anything better than being here! Friday Night Lights!' Fans told Channel 11's Andrew Havranek they look forward to this practice all summer. They said there's just something special about seeing the pros up close, and getting their autographs. This year, a highly coveted autograph was that of the four-time NFL MVP Quarterback Aaron Rodgers. 'I've gotten Aaron Rodgers, [Spencer] Anderson, Pat Friermuth, that was awesome!' said Lexi Thurston of Chesterfield, Virginia. '[Rodgers is] an absolute legend like you can't get any better than that. It's like crazy it made me freak out, I didn't know what to do.' 'I'm hoping he leads us to the Super Bowl, obviously getting him that last one before he retires,' said Landon Thomas of Lancaster, Ohio. Before practice started Channel 11's Andrew Havranek caught up with fan who shares the Aaron Rodgers name. Of course, her first name is spelled a bit differently, but it's still caused her some hardships, especially after Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. 'Growing up I always got name like, all kinds of jokes about me, when I go into restaurants, everyone thinks I'm joking most of the time, they're like 'you're Erin Rodgers?'' she said. Now, she's just hoping that since Aaron Rodgers is in the black and gold, she won't be booed anymore. 'It makes it a lot better instead of it being kind of an exciting but also booing me it will be more an all around 100% good because now I can outwardly support him and not be shunned,' Rodgers said. And as for that Rodgers Packers jersey she owns? 'Are you going to be replacing that with a Steelers' Rodgers jersey?' Havranek asked. 'I am considering it,' Rodgers said.
