CM asks Centre's aid to revive 10k hectares of khazan lands

Chief minister
on Saturday urged the Centre to provide financial assistance to revive 10,000 hectares of khazan paddy lands to provide livelihoods to people by boosting basic activities such as agriculture, pisciculture, and salt panning.

Sawant attended the 10th governing council meeting of the NITI Aayog at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sawant said that the state's economy is growing at 9.17% with its per capita income nearly 2.5 times the national average.
'In Goa, there are about 10,000 hectares of khazan paddy lands affected by saline water due to lack of maintenance,' Sawant said. 'There is an urgent need to revive khazan lands by undertaking repairs and maintenance of outer and inner bunds, sluice gates, and desilting of poiems (small creeks) on a large scale in a planned/phased manner.
Govt of Goa needs large-scale funding to take up these activities.'
Sawant added, 'If revived, this would bring thousands of hectares of land under cultivation, provide livelihood to people by boosting basic activities such as agriculture, pisciculture, and salt panning, and also maintain/protect the fragile coastal ecosystem in estuaries.'
The CM said Goa has launched the State Amrit Kaal Agricultural Policy, 2025, a comprehensive strategy aimed at modernising farming, promoting sustainability, and ensuring farmer prosperity.
'This policy aligns with 'Viksit Bharat 2047', focusing on innovation, environmental conservation, and economic growth,' Sawant said.
He said govt has started the work of preparing a vision document on 'Viksit Goa @ 2047' based on five pillars —physical infrastructure, economic infrastructure, social infrastructure, institutional infrastructure, and environmental infrastructure.
'Keeping in view the values of socio-economic and demographic indicators of Goa, I am confident that Goa will achieve the targets under Viksit Goa by 2037, 10 years before the target given by Govt of India,' Sawant said.

On the education sector, Sawant said that the National Education Policy, 2020, has been implemented in Goa by integrating vocational education with general education to make learning more flexible, inclusive, and skill-based.
On the health sector, Sawant said Goa boasts a well-developed healthcare infrastructure. Institutional deliveries are 99.7%, and the state is aiming to bring the present infant mortality rate of 10.73 infant deaths per thousand live births to a single digit.
Sawant said that Goa's strategic location on the west coast of India and the proximity of a well-integrated maritime ecosystem for major shipping routes make it easy to increase the span of maritime services to global shipping.

He said that Tiranga Yatras are being organised even in villages, as the local populations wished to express their support for the soldiers guarding the borders thousands of miles away. TG govt amping up fight against AP's Banakacharla move: Uttam
Hyderabad: State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has said that the Telangana Government was intensifying its fight against Andhra Pradesh's proposed Godavari-Banakacharla Link Scheme and was determined to protect Telangana's water rights. The Minister said that he had written multiple letters to the Centre, exposing serious violations by Andhra Pradesh and demanding immediate intervention. Andhra Pradesh had failed to obtain technical clearances from the Central Water Commission (CWC) and from the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB), Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and the Apex Council, as mandated under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act (APRA) 2014. No project on inter-state rivers can proceed without these approvals. Andhra Pradesh is brazenly bypassing all statutory mechanisms, he added. Andhra Pradesh misused Sections 46(2) and 46(3) of the APRA 2014 to seek funds from the Union Finance Ministry under the backward regions development clause, Uttam said in an information interaction with the media here on Friday. These sections cannot override Part IX of the Act, which deals with inter-state river water management, requiring technical clearance, inter-state consultations, and Apex Council approval before any project proceeds. Andhra Pradesh had neither shared any proposal with the Telangana government nor provided any DPR or plans for scrutiny by the relevant boards. He noted that despite Andhra Pradesh's multiple letters to the Union Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Jal Shakti seeking funds, no DPR had been sent, and the ministries had merely forwarded Andhra Pradesh's letters to technical bodies like the GRMB, KRMB, and the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) for comments. This is not due process. It's an attempt to mislead the Centre and push the project without scrutiny. The previous BRS government failed to safeguard Telangana's interests. During the united Andhra Pradesh era, Telangana's rightful share was 724 tmcft, but the BRS government signed agreements that reduced Telangana's share to 299 tmcft while allocating 512 tmcft to Andhra Pradesh. Ukku agitators to donate blood to save VSP from privatisation
Visakhapatnam: Every employee should donate blood to protect Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) from getting privatised on June 14, called out Steel CITU honorary president J Ayodhya Ramu. Unveiling a poster for the blood donation camp here on Friday, Ayodhya Ramu mentioned that for the past 1,600 days, trade unions have been fighting against the 100 percent strategic sale of the VSP and appealing the Centre to change its decision on it. But the government is taking steps to privatise the plant, taking the lives of the workers for granted, he pointed out. It is time for the working class to unite and donate their blood and bring their prob-lems to the attention of the Central government, he mentioned that the recent financial package of Rs.11,440 crore given by the Centre was just an eye wash. The Steel CITU honorary president appealed to the employees and workers to participate in the blood donation camp and extend support to the agitation. Speaking on the occasion, blood donation camp organiser B Apparao explained, 'Through blood donation camps made in the past seven years, we have been able to meet the blood needs of several pa-tients.' He informed that the camp will be organised at Ambedkar Kalakshetram, Ukkunagaram (CWC-1) on the occasion of the World Blood Donation Day on June 14. Steel CITU president YT Das stated that steel workers have already been recognised for donating blood several times.
