Police detain doctor's wife and sons, seize RM420,000 worth of cannabis at Kelantan home
Kelantan Police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the stepbrothers, aged 24 and 34, who work as assistants at their father's clinic, and the 46-year-old housewife were picked up at 4.30am.
'Checks at the house found six boxes containing compressed blocks of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis and two bags containing the same drug weighing 35kg, worth about RM299,590.
'Also seized was a Glock pistol with 16 bullets and a casing, estimated to be worth RM5,000,' he told a press conference at the Kelantan Police Contingent headquarters here today.
Mohd Yusoff said four vehicles — a BMW 523i, a Mercedes-Benz C200, a Perodua Bezza and a Naza Ria — worth a total of RM116,000 were also confiscated, bringing the total estimated value of the seizures to RM420,000.
Mohd Yusoff said the syndicate is believed to have been active since 2023, using the house as storage before distributing the drugs via courier services.
The quantity seized could supply about 35,000 addicts.
'The men tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine while their mother tested negative,' he said, adding that all suspects have been remanded for seven days starting August 6 for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In a separate case, Mohd Yusoff said the General Operations Force Battalion 7 seized a revolver, 30 live bullets and a casing from a Thai couple at a house in Pengkalan Kubor on July 25.
The married couple, aged 40 and 30, did not possess a valid firearms licence and had entered Malaysia illegally.
He said they were detained for investigation under the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.— Bernama

AKPS said the officer manning the immigration counter had found that all four individuals did not have any record of entering Malaysia. The woman was then asked to give way to other travellers for further checks to be done, leaving her unhappy. 'The woman then hurled abusive language at the officer before pulling the latter's headscarf and pushing her head against a pillar in front of the counter. 'A minor struggle ensued. The suspect refused to calm down despite being instructed to do so,' the agency said. AKPS said the attack left the officer with a swollen left eye and pain on the right side of her head. She was sent to Cyberjaya Hospital for treatment. It said a police report had been filed and the suspect was in police custody. She is being investigated for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duty, causing hurt and using criminal force under Sections 186, 332 and 353 of the Penal Code, respectively.

Penang DAP to file police report over ‘illegal' Umno Youth-led rally on upside-down flag controversy
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 14 — Penang DAP will lodge a police report against an allegedly illegal gathering organised by Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh in Kepala Batas this evening. Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong called on the police to take stern action against Dr Akmal for his clear defiance of police directive not to organise a rally over the upside-down flag issue. 'The rally by Akmal Saleh and his group is a violation of the law and a provocation that threatens public order,' he said in a statement issued today. He said the police should take action to send a signal that such acts of provocation will not be tolerated in this country, especially during Merdeka month which should promote unity, not division. Sim said Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail had urged all parties not to gather at Kepala Batas today, but they ignored it. 'As part of the state government, Penang DAP fully respected the police's directives and did not mobilise our members or supporters to take part in the gathering,' he said. He said only local representatives were present to distribute the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with Merdeka celebrations to foster patriotism and strengthen unity. Earlier this evening, Dr Akmal led approximately 200 people in a 1.4km march to the hardware shop in Kepala Batas over the upside-down flag issue. Dr Akmal had reportedly claimed that they only wanted to send a clear message about respecting the Jalur Gemilang and that it cannot be hung upside down. Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail had advised for the gathering to be called off as it could threaten public safety and well-being. 'To safeguard the safety of the local community and to prevent any form of unhealthy confrontation between opposing groups, PDRM advises all parties involved to cancel the planned gathering,' he said. Some of the shops in the area shuttered early to avoid being caught in the gathering. There was also heavy police presence in the area to control the crowd. The controversy arose after the hardware store in Jalan Bertam Perdana recently went viral for flying the national flag upside down. The 59-year-old shop owner, who was arrested and investigated over the incident, reportedly said it was an unintentional mistake while measuring the flagpole and that he had corrected the mistake later. Following the controversy, DAP announced that it would sponsor a giant Jalur Gemilang for the shop and mobilised Penang party members to distribute 831 flags.

Rafizi's son to undergo 6 months of medical tests after syringe attack
Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's son was dragged out of their family car and stabbed with a syringe at a Putrajaya shopping mall yesterday afternoon. KUALA LUMPUR : Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli today said that his 12-year-old son would have to undergo six months of medical tests to rule out the possibility that he was injected with anything dangerous during an attack at a Putrajaya mall yesterday. The Pandan MP said doctors and police had yet to determine what the syringe contained, prompting a series of blood and food tests as well as extended hospital observation. Rafizi said there were three possibilities: drugs or poison, which doctors had ruled out after observation; a virus such as HIV or hepatitis; or plain water. 'So far, there have been no immediate effects (for drugs or poison). I take comfort in that as a father, we can rule out drugs and poison,' he told a press conference in Parliament today. However, Rafizi said the possibility of a viral infection could only be ruled out after 'at least six months' of monitoring. 'We can only know after six months, and we will have to continuously monitor his behaviour,' he said. Rafizi earlier revealed that his wife had received two threatening text messages from an unknown number this morning, reading: 'Be quiet. If you continue, AIDS.' He said he suspected that yesterday's attack was linked to a case he was looking into, adding that he had met a group of whistleblowers just last week. According to Rafizi, his son was dragged out of their family car by two individuals dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets and stabbed with a syringe. The assailants escaped, while the boy was rushed to the hospital.
