PDEG chief Police Brigadier General Edwin Quilates said the National Capital Region Special Operations Unit (NCR SOU) had been working on the case.
'Matagal na na nilang sinusundan yung tao, yung movements niya from Region 3 to NCR until maka-connect yung Alpha nila so natuloy yung buy-bust operation last Saturday,' Quilates said.

Two suspects were arrested, identified as 40-year-old 'Ry' and 55-year-old Chinese national 'Lian,' who are both tagged as 'high-value individuals.'
According to Quilates, Lian was using a seafood store, restaurant, and warehouse in Guiginto and Plaridel as a front for the illegal activity.
Quialates said authorities are looking into the possibility that the shabu was transported through waters as the packages were wet.

Bato refiles death penalty bill vs drug traffickers

Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Wednesday refiled in the 20th Congress a measure that seeks to restore the death penalty for large-scale drug traffickers. The bill on capital punishment for large-scale illegal drug trafficking, which Dela Rosa has been pushing since 2019, topped the lawmaker's 10 priority legislative measures for the incoming 20th Congress. Dela Rosa served as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the Duterte administration and was the lead implementer of the war on drugs. Former President Rodrigo Duterte is now detained at The Hague, Netherlands over charges of crimes against humanity for the extrajudicial killings during the drug war. Also included in Dela Rosa's priority bills were the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Act, Amendment to Party-list System Act, End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) Act, and Anti-Drug Abuse Council Act. Healthcare Senator JV Ejercito also filed his 10 priority bills on Wednesday, including a proposed P74.4-billion Supplemental Appropriations for PhilHealth to strengthen the country's health insurance system and uphold the mandate of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Law. Ejercito, principal sponsor of the UHC Act, underscored the importance of the supplemental budget amid the rising medical costs. He also filed a measure seeking to suspend excise taxes on regular gasoline, unleaded premium gasoline and diesel; and a separate bill on the P250 Daily Minimum Wage Increase Act and Motorcycle Taxi Act, among others. Meanwhile, included in Senator Imee Marcos' priority bills were the National Minimum Wage Act, Budget Modernization Act, Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Act, and the National Tax Allotment Act. Senators started filing their priority legislative measures for the 20th Congress on Monday, June 30. The new Congress is set to convene its first session day on July 28. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

US charges two Chinese in efforts to recruit US service members

U.S. prosecutors have charged two Chinese nationals with acting as agents of the Chinese government in efforts to recruit American service members, the Justice Department said on Tuesday. Yuance Chen, 38, a legal permanent resident living in Happy Valley, Oregon, and Liren 'Ryan' Lai, 39, who traveled to Houston in April on a tourist visa, were arrested on Friday, the department said in a statement. The pair made their initial appearances in federal court in Houston and Portland, Oregon on Monday, it said. The two worked on behalf of China's Ministry of State Security to facilitate a "dead-drop payment" of $10,000 cash in exchange for information related to U.S. national security, which was left in locker at a recreational facility in Northern California in 2022, it said. They "continued to work on behalf of the MSS, including to help identify potential assets for MSS recruitment within the ranks of the U.S. Navy," the Justice Department said. "The Chinese Communist Party thought they were getting away with their scheme to operate on U.S. soil, utilizing spy craft, like dead drops, to pay their sources," FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement.
