"You Don't Know Me?" RJD MLA vs 'Sachiv' In ' Panchayat '-Style Face-Off

NDTV5 days ago
New Delhi:
In a scene that may well be straight out of the 'Panchayat' web series, a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA in Bihar engaged in a face-off with a local secretary on a phone call. An audio clip of the confrontation involving the RJD legislator, Bhai Virendra, and the 'sachiv' has gone viral on social media.
The row began when Bhai Virendra called the village secretary of his constituency to ask about the status of a death certificate. The 'sachiv' did not recognise the RJD MLA and asked him for his name. To this, the legislator snapped, "You don't know Bhai Virendra? You don't know Bhai Virendra of Maner? You want me to introduce myself?"
The official responded: "I will recognise you when you introduce yourself".
Bhai Virendra sarcastically asked the secretary whether he was from England. "Are you from England? You don't know the MLA of Maner? The entire country knows me," he said.
"Yes, MLA ji, please speak," the 'sachiv' responded.
Angered by the response, the RJD MLA threatened to hit the government official to hit him with a shoe.
"Yes MLA ji, speak? Joote se maarenge tumko (I will hit you with my shoes). Record this and do what you want. The country knows me, and you're saying you don't know who Bhai Virendra is. You should have greeted me on the call," he said.
Bhai Virendra then told him that an application had been sent for a death certificate for Avinash Kumar, the husband of one Rinki Devi.
"Get it made. The application was sent long ago. Don't work poorly. You are an employee, work like an employee," he told the village secretary.
The face-off escalated after the village secretary told the RJD MLA that he would not be bullied by him.
"If you talk to me nicely, then I will talk to you nicely. Do whatever you want, I am not afraid of you. If you speak rudely, I will speak rudely. No one is going to be afraid here," he said.
This response made the MLA even more furious; he raged that the village secretary had no right to work if he did not know the local legislator.
"Get me transferred," the 'sachiv' challenged.
"Transfer? This won't stop at transfer. That is a very small thing. Where are you even from?" Bhai Virendra asked.
To this, the village secretary asked the RJD MLA not to threaten him.
"Talk to me about work. Your request has been processed. You will know when it is done," he said before cutting the call.

Services at AIIMS-Patna affected as docs go on indefinite strike over MLA's ‘high-handedness'

An FIR has been lodged against the MLA by the police, but no copy has been provided to the RDA officially. As per legal opinion, the FIR is weak, lacking the strength and sections necessary to ensure strict legal action against the perpetrators, it said. According to a press statement issued by the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA), AIIMS-Patna, on Friday, 'The RDA expresses deep disappointment and anguish over the lack of action by the administration following the violent and traumatic incident that occurred on Wednesday, when MLA Chetan Anand, his wife and their armed guards breached hospital security, physically assaulted staff, and threatened resident doctors with firearms within the Trauma Centre premises.' 'Our indefinite strike will continue until further notice… We call upon all residents to remain united and firm. Our stand is for justice, safety, and dignity of every healthcare worker,' it said. Patna, Aug 1 (PTI) Healthcare services were affected at AIIMS-Patna on Friday as resident doctors went on an 'indefinite strike' in protest against the alleged high-handedness of Sheohar MLA Chetan Anand. On the other hand, non-bailable charges have been filed against resident doctors, who were victims, not aggressors, on the basis of a complaint filed by the MLA against members of the RDA, it alleged. No official statement or press release has been issued by the AIIMS administration condemning the incident or standing in support of its doctors, it said. Emergency, OPD and other services were affected as a result of the strike. On the other hand, Anand, the RJD-turned-JD(U) legislator, had lodged a police complaint, alleging that staffers of AIIMS-Patna misbehaved with him and his wife during a visit to the hospital on Wednesday night. On Thursday, he told PTI that he and his wife were mistreated by hospital staffers when they went to visit a supporter admitted to the facility. 'My wife and I went to see one of my supporters admitted at AIIMS on Wednesday night. I was not allowed to enter the hospital with my security guard. This prompted my wife to intervene,' he said. 'At that moment, other staff members came and started misbehaving with my wife. They literally thrashed her. I had to intervene. My wife sustained injuries to her wrist and back. I was also held hostage by the staffers for some time. Finally, we went to the local police station and lodged a complaint,' he added. The MLA's mother, Lovely Anand, is the JD(U) MP from the Sheohar Lok Sabha seat. Meanwhile, an FIR was registered on the basis of the complaint filed by AIIMS-Patna administration on Thursday night, said Patna City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh, who visited the hospital and interacted with the protesting resident doctors. 'Earlier, a complaint related to the incident was filed by the opponent party as well. The matter is being investigated,' he added. PTI PKD ACD This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Land for jobs ‘corruption' case: CBI ‘cherry picking' to target Lalu family, argues lawyer in court

THE CBI is 'cherry picking' to target the family of former Bihar chief minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad in the land for jobs 'corruption' case, argued his lawyer before a Delhi Court on Friday. Lalu and his family have been accused by the CBI of enabling the recruitment of candidates for Group D railway substitute jobs who had allegedly transferred them land parcels as a quid pro quo. 'They're trying to dig deep to open all threads against the family… They're trying to link their names somehow,' argued Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, who is representing Lalu's daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav. Singh was accompanied in court by advocate Aekta Vats. 'The land sales were years apart from the dates when the jobs were given… How can the CBI connect the two,' he argued before Special Judge Vishal Gogne of Rouse Avenue Courts. 'In three days, the Pacific Ocean changed due to the tsunami… multiple years is a long long time to wait.' 'This case seems to be the interpretation of one gentleman who sits in a room determined to point out that something was wrong,' the advocate said. 'The CBI has said there were no requirements for the jobs and that there was no urgency… Has any (land) seller ever told them they were under pressure from Lalu Prasad,' Singh asked the court. Singh also said while there were 103 accused persons in the case, there was a mention of just 12 land parcels in the chargesheets. Earlier last month, the CBI which was represented in court by Senior Advocate and Special Public Prosecutor D P Singh and Advocate Manu Mishra, had argued that Lalu had threatened Railway Ministry officials to speed up the recruitment process. The CBI case pertains to the alleged transfer of land at cheap rates to the RJD chief and his family in return for appointments made in Group-D substitute jobs in the Central Railways between 2004 and 2009, when Lalu was the Railway Minister. In its multiple chargesheets, the CBI has claimed that there were several discrepancies in the documents furnished by those who were given jobs in exchange for land such as candidates having sequential roll numbers on their caste and residence certificates. As per the CBI, Lalu had earlier acquired over 1 lakh square feet of land for only Rs 26 lakh as against the circle rate of over Rs 4.39 crore.
