Abbie Chatfield addresses 'very demeaning' backlash from feud with Clementine Ford as she DEFENDS the fellow feminist: 'It's not her fault'

Daily Mail6 hours ago

Abbie Chatfield has described the fallout from her very public feud with Clementine Ford as 'demeaning'.
The podcaster says the right wing response to her 'cat fight' was disappointing and predictable - but she does not blame the fellow feminist for the backlash.
'It was really hurtful because after that, the right-wing comments came in saying, "Nothing better than a cat fight. Two feminists fighting. You can't even agree with each other." It's very demeaning' Abbie tells Stellar Magazine.
'And that isn't Clementine's fault, but it's something that she should have considered, and that I've considered when I haven't called her out for things that I'd say are deeply damaging.'
The 29-year-old added that she's most troubled by comments - from Clementine and other detractors alike - that attack her perceived character and not her politics.
From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop.
'This idea that because I'm not doing things perfectly, that I'm an idiotic narcissist, I don't know anything, I'm brain dead, I'm a deeply basic thinker – they're just insults. It's not actually critiquing my work' she said.
Just last month Ford appeared to have taken another dig at Chatfield as the feminist rivals' online feud rumbled on.
The pair have been exchanging barbs since Ford accused Chatfield of profiting from the 'performance of being politically engaged'.
In the recent salvo, Ford took to her Instagram story to make a pointed reference to the stoush.
She shared a screenshot of a text conversation between two unnamed people.
The first writes: 'I heard you were taking s*** about me.'
The second replies with a defiant: 'Do you wanna hear it again or did you get everything?'
Above the exchange, Ford wrote: 'This is the energy I want to be coming into next year with'.
Chatfield had made a tearful appeal to Ford to rein back her criticism, saying it was unfair and was a painful addition to the abuse she receives from those who criticise her left-wing politics.
Speaking on her It's A Lot podcast, Chatfield admitted she had struggled as she reflected on the feud.
'Been a bit of a rough weekend. Go to my TikTok if you want to know what's going on. I don't want to rehash it, but all I want to say is it's incredibly counterproductive to criticise someone for doing the thing you want them to do,' Abbie began.
'It makes no sense and it gives a certain energy that I think we all know.'
She then invited questions from her followers, and used that for another shot at Ford.
'We are doing an "ask me anything" as I didn't prep, because contrary to what Clementine Ford says, I do prep for my own podcasts but I didn't have time to do that,' Abbie said.
The feud came about when Ford wrote on her Dear Clementine blog on Substack that some influencers like Chatfield profit from the 'performance of being politically engaged' while criticising anyone who disagrees with them.
Chatfield responded with a video post on Instagram in which she called out Ford.
'She's literally writing a burn book about me and doing insults like "She thinks she's so hot"' Chatfield said.
'What a weirdo - oh my God.'
Abbie finished off the clip with a plea to the writer.
'Clementine, take a step back from the internet. Take a step back from Reddit please.'
Chatfield later returned to the platform in tears as the social media feud took a dark turn.
She accused Ford of 'trolling' her, and said it was affecting her mental health and made her feel unsafe.
'I get it enough from people on the right and trolls and men that hate me and want to threaten me and want me dead. Please stop dehumanising me,' she wept.
'Please, you can criticise my content, you can criticise my work, just - I'm begging you - stop lying about my intentions.
'Stop saying that I have a personality disorder. You don't know me. This is so f****ing triggering I just want her to stop.
'It isn't working, you're discouraging others... Please, I'm just trying to do what I can to help.
'I just don't understand why she's so adamant on proving that I'm awful. I don't get it. This is so incredibly stressful and awful what she is doing.'
Chatfield said she was now aware of 'someone spreading malicious lies about me again and again … because she claims to know my intentions on f***ing everything'.
'Please stop, Clementine. I am begging you to stop,' she sobbed.
'You don't know me at all, you're a stranger. I deal with so much, every single day. I deal with insults every single day, I do not need it from you because you know that when you say it you validate it for people on the left.
'You are f**ing my mental health. Please f***ing stop.'
She then posted screenshots of comments made by the writer, calling Chatfield an 'idiotic narcissist', 'completely shallow' and a 'deeply basic thinker'.
'See how this isn't criticism? It's just insults,' she captioned the screenshots.

Aussie cricket star Steve Smith lifts the lid on when he could retire and pinpoints the new sporting event he dreams of playing in

Steve Smith has no plans to retire any time soon, so long as he is still enjoying his cricket and scoring runs for Australia. But as Australia's Test side quietly enters a transitionary period, Smith, 36, has reflected on his future in the game and revealed why he gave up One Day cricket. The Australian batsman, who has amassed a whopping 10,271 runs across 116 Test Matches, also revealed the lengths he is taking to ensure he can continue playing at the top level - notably hiring a personal trainer. Speaking to The Courier Mail, Smith admitted he feels 'as strong as I've ever been' adding that he's looking to increase his power. The New South Wales star was also pressed on when he could plan to hang up his pads. And having won countless trophies, toured all over the world and broken records, there is one thing that the Aussie batsman wants to do before he hangs up his pads - play for Australia at the 2028 LA Olympics. 'As long as I'm contributing to the team and I'm having fun there's no reason to stop,' Smith told The Courier Mail, ahead of a World Test Championship Final against South Africa. 'I've spoken to quite a few people around retirement and around what it looks like and everybody was basically just saying the same: "You're a long time retired". Weary of going on for too long but also keen to continue scoring runs, Smith, who also lives in New York with his partner Dani Willis, opened up on his ambition of playing in Los Angeles. 'I've got to try and make it last while I can and I'm living my dream I suppose. I'm doing everything I've loved to do and everything I've wanted to do for my whole life. Why cut it short I suppose? Keep trying to do it for as long as I can. He added: 'Now I've got other ambitions and goals. One day it is to play the Olympics which I'd love to do.' Cricket has only been played at a Summer Games once before at the Paris Olympics in 1900. Great Britain's Devon and Somerset Wanderers were crowned gold medallists, while teams from Britain and France both entered. Smith reasoned that his shock decision to step back from ODI cricket in March was due to his ambitions to improve his ball striking in the T20 format and play in Los Angeles. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Steve Smith (@steve_smith49) Smith had also revealed that he was keen to open up a space in the ODI squad for other young and emerging stars coming through the ranks. 'That was pretty much the reason why I let go of one-day cricket to be able to play a bit more T20. 'To be able to push my name forward for that Olympics team, that's my next goal. 'I feel like I've achieved a lot amongst the other formats and that's probably the one format internationally I haven't quite nailed. That's my No 1 goal.'

Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison and film director Baz Luhrmann receive top gongs in King's Birthday Honours - read the full list of awards

Scott Morrison gets the highest possible accolade in the King's Birthday Honours List alongside prominent figures including filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and his Academy Award-winning costume designer partner, Catherine Martin. Australia's 30th prime minister, who led the nation from 2018 until the coalition's 2022 election loss, was recognised for 'eminent service to the people and parliament of Australia, particularly as prime minister'. He famously declared 'miracles happen' when re-elected in 2019, and Sunday's news of his appointment to the Companion (AC) of the Order of Australia could come as a surprise to some people, given his low approval ratings at the time he left office. But since the establishment of the Order of Australia in 1975, every ex-prime minister has been appointed a Companion except Paul Keating, who declined because he believed the honours should be reserved for those whose community work went unrecognised. Mr Morrison's honour specifically points to his 'notable contributions to global engagement, to leadership of the national Covid-19 response, to economic initiatives, and to national security enhancements, especially through leadership of Australia's contribution to AUKUS'. He received significant support during the early days of the pandemic, with an April 2020 Newspoll revealing he had the highest satisfaction rating for any prime minister since Kevin Rudd in 2009. But by the end of his second term, he had become the most unpopular major party leader since at least 1987, according to an Australian National University study. The lead up to the 2022 election was plagued with blunders as Mr Morrison crash tackled a child, performed a ukulele rendition of April Sun in Cuba and took off a protective mask to gaze straight into welding sparks. He was also criticised for saying, 'I don't hold a hose, mate' when questioned over his decision to go on a family trip to Hawaii during the 2019 Black Summer bushfires. And shortly before leaving politics, Mr Morrison stunned parliamentary colleagues when it was revealed he had secretly appointed himself to five ministerial positions during the pandemic. The King's Birthday Honours List names 581 people in the General Division of the Order of Australia, including academics, ex-sport stars, leaders and creatives. 'These honours recognise the selfless service, integrity, achievement, creativity, and care that flourish across our country,' Governor-General Sam Mostyn said. Fourteen people were appointed to the highest honour, AC. Luhrmann and Martin, best known for their work on films including Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby and Strictly Ballroom, received the accolade for their service to the arts. Environmental scientist Mark Howden, who served as a vice chair on the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, was also appointed to AC alongside business leader Jennifer Westacott and NASA climate science centre co-director Graeme Stephens. Bangerang and Wiradjuri woman Geraldine Atkinson has been named an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia for her work with Indigenous communities and reconciliation. Bec Judd slips into $9000 outfit during rustic getaway with the family in Victoria's Mornington Peninsula

Rebecca Judd has expensive tastes. The AFL WAG is on a long weekend escape with her family and made sure to dress to the nines. The 42-year-old is on a 'rustic' getaway in in Victoria's Mornington Peninsula and shared some updates from the trip to Instagram. In one set of photos, Bec slipped into an outfit that was just a few bucks short of $9100. The fashion designer sported an Ena Pelly leather brown trench coat which rings in at $960. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Bec paired the coat with YSL patent leather boots that sell for an eye-watering $2900 online. She added a luxury bag in the form of the Odyssée Monogram Canvas bag from Luis Vuitton which sells for an incredible $4,850. The social media star also had on trousers and a top from her own brand, Henne, and while she did not specify which, Henne pants cost around $199 and the tops average at $189. In addition to showing off her outfit, Bec also gave her fans a glimpse at the cosy vacation alongside her four children and husband Chris Judd. It comes after Bec Proved that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree as she recruits her daughter Billie into the world of influencing. On Thursday, she enlisted the help of the 11-year-old to make several sponsored posts to her Instagram Stories to thank a bath and body brand for freebies. 'What have you got there?' Bec asked her daughter on-camera, who 'woo-hooed' as she unboxed a gift set from All Kinds in her school uniform. Billie dutifully held up the press materials inside the box for the camera before Bec read them aloud. 'We've got a mini Spongebob, we've got shower foam, and bubblegum,' she said as she sat down to unbox the baby pink gift pack. 'Yeah try it,' Bec encouraged gently, as Billie reached for a lip balm. Bec has been posting clips and images of Billie to her Stories more frequently in the past 12 months as her second-eldest child enters her tweenage years. The model and influencer shares four children - Oscar, 13, Billie, 11, and twins Tom and Darcy, eight - with retired footy great Chris. In March, the Melbourne-based rich lister booked a $5,000 private suite at Rod Laver Arena Billie could watch Billie Eilish in style on her Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour. Bec took to Instagram, where she documents her lavish lifestyle to 752,000 followers, to memorialise the big night out, first sharing a picture of the mum and daughter duo beaming for a mirror selfie. In a recent fan Q&A, Bec characterised her daughter as 'a weapon at everything'. Describing her children's personalities, she added: 'Oscar: kind, responsible, smart, diligent.
